Nice job! Very helpful. My 1982 is doing the same thing. Hard to find info on this issue. So thanks for the video and the link to the forum about it. These 1980's cars with a million vacuum hoses to control everything is by far the worse era for automotive engine control systems ever. Super complicated and tons of stuff to go wrong.
Had the same problem on my '82 Celica 22R. Just spent $1.400 on it for mechanic to figure out the problem and doing a by pass for solenoid. Picking it up tomorrow. He said it runs fine now. let's hope. Thanks
MY LORD YOU SAVAGE. JUST bought a 1984 pickup and have my truck dying while driving down the road when i tale it out of gear after its warm. Ill be testing the voltage to my solenoid to see if shes struggling and run this bypass method. I alpreciate the insight, i was thinking of going thru with a fine tooth comb but everytjing else turns on batterys fully charged new wires plugs fuel filter. I have not chrcked the pump but when its cold she will start.
In Australia we do not have an emissions computers on my 1997 Toyota Hilux with its 22R engine and it has never let me down runs well no problems and its the original carburetor it is totally analog
I eliminated all the emission control devices on my '81 Toy and installed a Weber 32/36 DGEV carb. Any switched 12 volt source will correctly activate the fuel cut solenoid or the electric choke.
Yes and no. If you disconnect it you will stall, but if the stalling is Intermittent, its likely the smog computer, so tapping the solenoid negative cable as I did is a better test of the computer.

You're welcome and you are correct.

Is disconnecting the solenoid when it's running ,a good way to know if the solenoid is working?
Yes and no. If you disconnect it you will stall, but if the stalling is Intermittent, its likely the smog computer, so tapping the solenoid negative cable as I did is a better test of the computer.
I suggest a clear fuel filter to replace, it is great to see the fuel to confirm it is there.
Hi, I’m having idle issues too. Did you notice black soot coming out of your exhaust?
No idle issues or black soot. Sounds like a rich condition which can be a stuck float, bad ignition, all kinds of things.
good info
Can u show the wires better
😢 get interstate battery walmart battery junk😊
