    Project Subzero is back! My 2018 Mustang GT has been in my possession for around 5,000 miles now since August and I decided to give you guys an update on my likes, dislikes, and my thoughts of the S550 Mustang experience - especially in comparison to my 2013 Mustang GT S197. We also go into detail about the 10 speed automatic transmission, the ride quality, the coyote 5.0, and the upgrades we have made to the car so far such as the coil overs, spoiler, grille deletes, chin spoiler, Euro tail lights, and many more! In the end was Subzero worth the buy? Let's talk about it. Thanks for watching!

    You think Heated Wheels are a weird feature? Try heated mirrors! Up North, they're great for defrosting our side mirrors while on the move, but whenever I told my Southerner friends about them, they keep thinking, "Why would you need your mirrors to be heated?" 9/10 they kept thinking I was referring to the interior rearview mirror 😂

      I think it's important to look at dollars per smiles. A very well equipped Mustang GT for $36k used will get you to work just as fast as a $70k used GT350. Engine and exhaust sound, loan and car insurance prices are nearly the only differences. If you've got $70-100k to burn there are tons of options and that's great, but for that kind of money some ppl would rather wait for the ZL1 V8 Corvette that's supposedly getting a twin turbo flat plane crank V8 AND electric motor powered front wheels for 900 stock HP in a AWD sort of functionality. I've ownd and love Mustangs, but don't see myself buying a $70k-100k one anytime soon because of what else is available.

  • @19chucki74
    @19chucki74 4 роки тому +2

    One thing about ride height, Dave: when the factory assembles vehicles, especially sports cars like the Mustang, the main factor taken into account, is handling. How the car veers while in a crazy turn, takeoff and stopping, play a part in factory ride height. Just saying that, though the owner has the choice to swap out the normal struts, and install coilovers, like you did. In all, you did a pretty good job on SubZero.

    • @adamwiggins8290

  • @danielcamacho1913
    @danielcamacho1913 3 роки тому

    I, too, have Fortune Auto coilovers. I can tell you're excited about lowering the car, and the difference in handling, and I think you're smart enough to understand that most of the improvement in handling comes from a lot of *other* things the coilovers give you.
    The springs with the coilovers are probably twice as stiff as stock, or more. I bet the coilovers replaced your squishy upper strut mounts with a ball-and-socket joint. Great for tactile feedback (not so much for the ride quality). And I bet they came with camber plates that allow a way better alignment than stock. If they're high-quality coilovers, the dampers have less friction than the stock. The static coefficient of friction is kindof a big deal for ride and traction, especially on a strut suspension.
    Compared what those things do for your handling, lowering your center of gravity is a drop in the bucket.

    When using the paddles you must put it in Sport Mode BUT you need to pull back on the left paddle for a couple of seconds till the brackets come up around the gear number. Then it will upshift and downshift quickly(not like a DCT though). Also if you keep the revs up it will shift quicker. If that is not quick enough for you when you have got it set
    up with the stick in sport mode and pulled the left paddle back to lock it in THEN use your driving mode button and put it in sport+ or track or drag strip mode and remember to try and keep the revs up. Also it is not a placebo effect when you put it in sport mode the upshift points are higher in the revs range so it will accelerate faster if you keep your foot down.

    I don't think it is too shocking to have a 460hp car for 5000miles without modifying the engine. Picked out an orange 2019 GT Premium and had it shipped to me, Exhaust, rear wing, wheels and racing stripe decal were not stock but look great. Previous owner opted for the brembo brakes and digital instrument cluster. I'm enjoying it a ton, every drive to work feels like a vacation, and it is the 6speed manual. From everything I had heard, this model transmission is garbage, but shifts are clean and crisp. If I do have a powertrain issue in the next 35k miles it is warrantied anyway. I do like your tail lights, looks great on a white mustang. Don't think I'll modify mine much at all as I may sell it in 2 years to trade up to a performance pack of a 2021 year model. This is my 3rd mustang and my first manual vehicle ever but I'm loving it.

    I’m on pilot sports, they’re a blast when it rains. When I’m turning right or something I let the clutch out a little quicker than normal and kinda slide around the corner. Traction loss is fun if you know what you’re doing, or if it’s on purpose, but if it’s not that’s what makes it fun.

My 18 has no "piston slap", "BBQ tick", "typewriter tick" or anything else you read from the so-called "experts" on the internet concerning these cars. That's at 30k and supercharged. Never owned a white car, but it works well on your Mustang. Hearing the car's equipment. Speaking only in regards to the interior. You selected the items that helps make it a strong daily driver. Ricaros are nice looking and great for the track, but I want comfort and the nice leather heated/cooled seats with the heated steering wheel (and Nav) are at the top of interior options for daily use and comfort. I have nerve damage in my hands, so I use the heated steering wheel year round. It's also nice seeing changes that adds to the cars eye catching street look, while improving your Stang's stance and handling. I should add that personally, the automatic is the best way to go. It's strong at the strip and I see it proved each weekend at my local drag strip. If you live in a large city. It beat the hell out of a manual transmission in stop and go traffic.

It is a Daytona Scat with adjustable suspension, 6 piston Brembo, etc. I have no plans to mod anything on it. However, based on my past experience with my Mustang, if I went with another Mustang GT, I would probably be slapping mods on it left and right.

I have 2011 and I absolutely love classic looking gauges and I don't care about modern one in 2018. The special characteristic of 2011-14 is that it's still classic looking and that's what some people want, that's what I want. I don't even have leather seats or navigation or anything in mine, I only have V8 and 6 speed manual and classic looking Mustang, it doesn't have to be modern, it's beautiful and amazing for what it is. I have a 2019 GT/CS and I've noticed in any aggressive mode the 2-3 shift is pretty harsh. But in normal mode it's smooth.
    I prefer drag mode using the paddle shifters because it will shift MUCH faster at WOT. Under normal load it'll shift slower but once you put your foot down the shifts are much faster

    10speed summed up. 10R80
    A unique triple-clutch assembly on a dedicated intermediate shaft, placed in the middle of the architecture, replaces two ordinary clutches and is the key for packaging the 10-speed trans into the same space as previous transmissions.[5] The transmission provides small steps between each gear ratio, improving performance and maximizing engine power during acceleration. A wide gear ratio spread and a lower numerical top gear ratio reduces engine speed at vehicle highway speeds, resulting in improved efficiency.
    ‍‍With a wide ratio spread engineered with practicality in mind, the 10-speed transmission offers a modest 20% drop in RPM while shifting. When compared to the 25% drop seen in ZF eight-speeds, this is impressive, as it maintains close-to-peak power during full-throttle acceleration. In addition, it ensures smoother shift transitions (and better all-over operation) in towing scenarios, a primary concern for those behind the wheel.
    Shifting of the 10-speed transmission is facilitated by six clutches, engaging and disengaging in (dual-clutch) pairings. To prevent any decrease in efficiency, shifts do not require unlocking of the torque converter. And in contrast to conventional two-piece designs, its clutches are regulated by integrated solenoid valves, offering a quicker response. The transmission also offers quicker fill times, with the reduction in hydraulic passage lengths. Overall, this allows for a smooth launch and climb through the gears, as well as downshifting (as needed) without any sense of jarring interruption.
