That wood is just incredible, like it’s not from this world. I recently read about it, and it seems to be realy special.

I suppose that, to understand the anatomy of a spoon as intimately as you do, is to understand, intimately, a tiny portion of the workings of the Multiverse...

Great stuff as usual! I checked on the Von Trott detail Sloyd. Sold out. Is there another detail knife maker you would recommend? Hopefully less expensive that Vo Trott's.

Why do you finish the bottom of the spoon with the hook knife? Is it just for the hand carved look? Looks great BTW

      Why not? 😉

I believe it's for ease of mouth. Andy says the spoon is an 'eater' and I recently finished my first spoon which I wanted to use for eating. I had to remove material from the BACK of the spoon before it felt comfortable going into my mouth. Actually more for pulling OUT of my mouth.

Do I imagine it or does the wood oxidise to a slightly darker colour? The new cuts seem lighter, more golden...

There will almost always be a slight darkening when you work with green wood, for sure

Is it a specific commission or just a spoon you decided to do? Whatever, I hope the final owner appreciates it.

I rarely carve commissions, this is just what the wood dictated

Watching any of my videos should illustrate that speed is not the goal 😉
