Murphy Brock.... what a voice and the sound of Zappa at its best
A
I miss Frank, but Dweezil always does him justice.
No freakin doubt
Are you kidding? FZ was on a par with Jimi Hendrix when it comes to guitar playing technique even if their personal styles are extremely different. Dwezill is definitely a fantastic guitarist too but imo there is no way and no utility to compare him with his father
bollocks
Dweezil is cleaner than Frank.
willjammski So true, his Papa would be proud!
First time I heard Echidna's Arf was in 73. Blew me away. Didn't listen to the radio for two weeks. Just wasn't the same. Addicted for over 40 years.
It REALLY is an amazing piece of music!!
If you haven't yet seen the Roxy Movie yet, stop what you're doing and get it. IT IS THE VIDEO OF THE ALBUM RECORDING. The song you've heard hundreds of times, performed right in front of your very eyes. I was literally in tears.
it was released in late 74
@@MichaelMullerMWW SAME! Can't possibly recommend the Roxy Movie highly enough.
Yeah that's why I don't like to listen to Zappa because after listening to Zappa I don't want to listen to anything else
NAPOLEON MURPHY BROCK.....!!!
WORD
This is about as close as one can get to the 73/74 era band. Truly outstanding musicianship. I saw Frank's band at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago in early (March?) 73, again in October 73, and on Mother's day in 1974 (Show #2), and those performances blew my young teen-aged mind. Dweezil does his father proud.
Whenever I listen to Dweezil and Steve's guitar duel my soul leaves my body.
Steve Vai is without question an absolute guitar God.
A long time ago, (early 1980's) I worked someplace where, when someone left, he left a note on his office door that he was going to Montana to raise dental floss.
I was probably the only one who got it.
Such and such!
Absolutely great! I say it as a musician and musicologist and, especially as a person, who appreciates Zappa and the exceptional musicians who accompanied and cherish him. Thank you all!
Will have that quote on my tombstone👍😎 had a Harley called ”my pygmy pony”. Nobody got that except my brother in law (also a Zappa freak)
my uncle died a war hero and it was from that blasted dental floss lol no he died in 911 at the pentagon as an Aforce Cornel 1st Class and built thr computers in the _{Pentagon in 1958 he just so happend to be on the Naval side and redirecting the schlamatics of what thet did in 58 and all you contarversy ass punks got words for you he may have save your father in Korea and Nam so keep talking shit about him He is a hero and died and is buried in Arlington he designed the up grade from western Union to modernday WWW#
What a great band playing real music!
My god, Steve and Dweezil's dual guitar solo in Montana is mind bogglingly delicious and worth the price of admission.
+Todd Pafford Yea! Holy crap! Was that improvised? Brings me back to when I first met Steve in the finale to Crossroads back in the day~
yes he did,,thru all those tours
MY BRAIN EXPLODED.
Holy crap Brock is such a good singer in this video. The man worked up a sweat during Montana then belts his heart out. Village of the Sun. awesome stuff
Village of the sun always blows my minds.....
It is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard in my life
😍😍😍😍😍😍 Zappa ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Simply put, you said it best!
This is impossible, I can't believe my ears and eyes.
Ok.. i knew Steve Vai was amazing. I had no idea Dweezil could play like THAT. Mad respect
Dweezil is so good as Frank in putting together so many fantastic musicians!
The drums leads, the guitar, brass and piano.
Mr Frank Zappa totally crazy genius.
One of the 1900s great composers.
Never forget the bass asshole
I love Frank as much as the net guy for his art, talent, creativity and politics and I went to many many Zappa concerts and without a doubt, Dweezil plays guitar lightyears better than his dad!
Seeing Frank was like theatre, seeing Z play Z
is what i always wanted a FZ show to be!
Thanks Dweezil for making it so! I can only imagine how proud of you your dad must be!
theres so much talent going on here, it blows my mined, but that girl that plays sax, keys percussion, and sings and everything else is freakin unreal
TOTALLY!
Ella Zappa. Is a super star also.
Sheila Gonzalez
so tidy. so clean. we don't need bleach to keep our clothes spiffy and white when we listen to this stuff. your daddy would be so proud. thanks, dweez.
i'm so stinkin' happy God gave us music!!!
no, man gave us music...
...That guitar duel between Dweezil and Steve Vai was EPIC NOTE FOR NOTE UNREAL!!!...And the rest of it...The last five minutes...I'm going to the dental ER...I can't pick my jaw off the floor. MOZART WOULD BOW DOWN. ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!!
This got a grammy!
Nice! Deserves it, I still come back to this year after year, always puts a smile on
wow just wow
you said it.
Raymond Etternal
JFC that is good. Best thing I've heard in such a long time.
me wow too
The apple that didn't fall far...bless this band!
Are any of the band reading charts? How could anyone remember all that music and play it perfectly in synch with all those other people? It just astounds me.
Muscle memory and incredible dedication to craft
It was a moment of genius for Dweezil to come up with the idea of Zappa plays Zappa, his father's music is uniquely brilliant and needs to be preserved forever. It is also amazing that in the modern world of cut and paste same as everything else music that Dweezil can actually find musicians that can play his father's complex music to such a high standard.
Well-said, so true.
I had NO idea that Dweezil was that good. Whats with kids of Genius ? Just found out about Sean Lennon/Claypool delerium as well
Steve Vai un génie , Le génie de l histoire de la guitare on ne reverras pas ca jamais un instrumentiste comme ca
Im now late for work because of that God tier solo in Montana...
Love to watch Steve Vai
Wow, this is AMAZING! the band is so TIGHT!! Frank could not be honored more than this!!
This music will live on and on for years to come, Thank you Frank !!!!!!!!
I'm struck dumb and speechless by the end of this every single time I watch.
what dweezil has done to us is so great. I can just support this in the name of the most pure art I have ever heard
I'm mind-blown. All those guitars and you can still hear it in the mix. Incredible group.
i remember seeing this back in like 2008 and was blown away.
Napoleon Murphy Brock!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!
Jamie Kime: Understated, yet such a part of the overall texture.
holy mother of god. how did I miss this?
the number of musical ideas introduced in the first minute and a half alone..... astounding! and so catchy at the same time.
This stuff has kept me alive. And I told Dweez that when he played Manchester, UK. Too much dross and 'pop' muzak pumped into peoples ears nowadays. I'm so very grateful I was introduced to Franks tunes as a youngster. Saw my first concert aged 12 in 1972. Still find it beautiful in every way. Love you forever Frank. xx
Wonderful to hear the Zappa music tradition continued with such skill and enthusiasm.
Dweezle and Steve's guitar battle from 5:10 to 7:50. Outstanding!
Every time I play ZPZ I ask myself why I ever listen to anything else.
Was waiting for their guitars to burst into flames...incredible
"cutting heads"
You have extraordinary taste in music, sir!
Absolutamente genial! Digo-o como músico e musicólogo e, sobretudo como pessoa, que aprecia Zappa e os excecionais músicos que o acompanharam e estimam.
Obrigado a todos vós!
Absolutely great! I say it as a musician and musicologist and, especially as a person, who appreciates Zappa and the exceptional musicians who accompanied and cherish him. Thank you all!
All these years and that music still put's a smile on my face.
I would love to know who the 4 jerks were who "disliked" this. Why did they come here in the 1st place. this is an amazing performance keeping Frank's music alive!! Viva Frank!
+mb1065 yeah, really.
the Fillmore Album was a most delightful part of my undergraduate education. So many memories attached to Zappa's works, and so many rediscovered (and discovered) listening now. Great to hear Dweezil now as well. Thank you, Zappa's!
Grande Sheila, que gran artista es ella.
Beautiful music !
Nothing more to say. Excellent
I know......
Frank lives on,....Thank You Dweezil.......Steve
Absolutely amazing. These guys at the top of their game here. Phew.
Dweezil and his Vai ness certainly can noodle with the best of em. Awesome performance top class musicianship.
The music and the band are great, but Napoleon's rendition takes it to another level.
Yes Frank would be probably be proud. The band couldn't be better or truer to Frank's work. Good for Dweezil keeping the music going. But this just makes me miss Frank Zappa the composer.
Anybody that loves this song is amazingly in too some great music and you are awarded, no doubt
Joe Travers fabulous of precision!
Music and Frank Zappa are the best
Great great great Franck must be proud of his son and friends who keep playing his
Wonderful and unique music .
Hop you come to Nantes
If perfection exists in Rock music, this is it !
The best! And Scheila always brings the (t)Ruth.
they are getting better and better
EVERY single one of these absolute mother fuckers is a Grand Master, oh my days this brings me sooo much joy!
My God, these musicians are astounding!
WOW - he's looking down and so proud.
Amazing!! Zappa Forever!!
Zappa's musical personality and richness of sounds and rhythms is overpowering. Peerless. Very well played the ZPZ cover.. Amazing: I'm shocked. Thanks for sharing.
Very well done!
Makes me so happy
Great musicians. FZ live for ever.
Redonkulous!
I am mighty glad I got to see ZPZ, but I sorely wished Brock and Vai and Bozzio could have been at the show I was at.
Oh, and I think I'm in love with Scheila Gonzalez!
She can friggin' do it all!
Saw Steve Vai, Adrian Belew and Frank Zappa
On New years Eve 1978
At UCLA Pauly Pavillion.
With Terry Bozio on a drum kit from Mars..
Inside a complete circle of drums on a sling seat, so he could jump up at start drum rolls ten feet in the air with his back to the audience.
Needles to say. Three insane guitars and an insane drummer.
What I saw and heard that NEW YEARS EVE night was something from another planet of human beings playing music that is nearly indescribable.
This brought back a SAMPLE of what I heard that night.
Cheers Zappa fiends there are not that many if us. But we who eere transported to alternate realities at Xappa shows know we experienced what few mortals can even IMAGINE let alone ne play..
400 years from now they will still be figging through this music in AWE
SPACE OPERA ROCK.....
FOREVER!!!!!!!!!
I love this music and it makes me happy that some people in my age (14) listen to this music!
+Lilly Blub It gives me hope and makes me happy that people your age are enjoying Zappa. 14 is the exact age I began listening to Zappa too. I met a person that became a life long friend the first day of 7th grade waiting for the doors to be opened. That friend turned me on to Zappa only a week later.
+Brian York Yeah, sometimes I feel alone because I don't know anyone in my age who is listening so the same music as I do. I just feel like I was born in the wrong generation, so I spend a lot more time with adults talking about music than with people in my age. It's kind of sad, but I as long as I know someone who has the same music taste as I do, I am happy:)
+Lilly Blub I was about 12 when I got a copy of Roxy & Elsewhere at a yard sale in Austin, Texas in 1974. I was the only person I knew who thought it was genius. Keep looking for the stuff that turns you on. I found many others, much later. Follow your own star. You'll find your friends. Peace.
started at 14, now 27, Zappa fans can be hard to find!
it keeeps this wonderful music alive..Wtg Lilly
Loved the guitar duel on this one!
Always more satisfying!! I cry when I see this group!
Amazing sound.
Frissons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAOW!!!!
Awesome, I'm sure Frank would be proud.
Dweezil is not quite as his Dad...But can rock, luv it..brings back sooo many memories..Thank you for posting
in creativity(song writing) frank was miles ahead but in guitar skill dweezil wins hands down.
Dweezil, is as bad-ass as his Dad but in a different way.Pure Velvet
Fantástico!!! Quem puxa aos seus, não degenera.
Multi tasking band, i love zappas!
un chanteur de génie
Jesus...there cannot be any band tighter on this earth!
The brilliance of Zappa's mind shines beautifully w/this lineup of talent. Some amazing performances here. Love the camera on the top of Dweezil's axe-nice production film crew!! His music was was so damn unique, orchestral, and sophisticated-stands the test of time. i only hope this current generation can understand his genius. IF there are any people or acts in music currently making music on this level-please let me know who they are-thx!
Steven Wilson is pretty good. Makes some fantastic concept albums although the style is nothing like Zappa.
Jerry Outlaw, also the leader/guitarist of the best Zappa tribute band in the world BOGUS POMP. Look him up.
Justin fimberfuk
I'm really impressed with Greta Van Fleet. More Zeppelin than Zappa but they really are a throwback
Wow! This is like watching Crossroads
Girl on the sax..freakin is very talented
F*cking majestic. I would put this suite up a new Voyager spacecraft in a golden disc. Phuck me dead.
This song is a celebration
A jubilee
So, I love Franks music, my favorite period being the '74 band, but I love it all. Napolean really makes this performance, his voice and timing are as good as they were 40 years before this. If you have not heard YCDTOSA Vol. 2, you have to hear the Ultra-fast Village of the Sun / Echidna's ARf / Don't you ever wash that thing, it's stellar. I just Goggled him to see what he has been doing all these years, and found a solo album he released in 2002 called Balls, it's on UA-cam, it's really good !
That all look so relaxed, esp dweezil, takes dedication to play this, pure and simple
Yep. Nailed it
That echidna kicks ass
This is just amazing
this is my favorite Zappa song. Love this version played by Dweezil excellently, and Steve Vai.
This is 4 whole songs 😂😂😂 which one did you mean?
Mmmmmmmm... now those are some tasty jams
And Scheila Gonzalez! She is an amazing performer! The second woman playing in a Zappa band after Ruth Underwood. Scheila would certainly be approved by Frank!
The compositions are brilliant. The guitar of Vai is a deadly speed laser cutting you in little pieces and you feel nothing going wrong. It's about 1 Km far away walking on your road before you fall disintegrated into the crumbs of your body.
Wish I was there...cause that's just well....ON
Dweezil, Frank is pleased, as am I! You ROCK. 1
so much love in the details. amazing
When Dweezil and Vai went at it, I figured there were souls on the line.
