Thats a fair point, this video was more focused on sales techniques I use, but im currently working on a video about FINDING the work to sell. Stay tuned
It's good to see people who are STILL willing to work. I'm 47 been a welder fabricator for over 25 yrs now. Just went out on my own 2 1/2 yrs ago been moon lighting for years tho. I watch all these vids of you guys telling us HOW I GET WORK and I gotta say is IF you are out there going door to door ASKING for work you guys are doing something wrong!! I advertise On craigslist and that is it!!! When people have me do work for them then they tell their friends and so on and so forth!! I don't have to ask for work. I do mobile welding got a 08 f550 with a crane. I live in south western MN and work in SD NE MN and IA. My minimum is 125 and hr make more doing stainless, rush jobs, bids, or even the good ol f you price!! (jobs I REALLY don't want or don't NEED) I make skidsteer attachments modify 3pt attachments to fit on skidsteers I work and grain elevators and feed mills (on call for 1 I do alot of work for) But good luck..
Good Information on salesmanship!! I own a small business (wireless internet) and I use word of mouth to get more business mostly. That being said, I also utilize salesmanship like you mentioned to get jobs. Some business owners do not realize how important it is to interact well with customers. Just because you are good at your craft doesn't mean you won't need to create sales for extra income! Good customer service goes a long way too!
Good points! All of my customers are concrete companies that all want me on weekends. They don't want to stop producing during the week, so some tasks have to be done when down. I recently started charging an extra 25 per hour for weekends hoping it would discourage some. Nope they didn't care one bit, now I'm wondering how much I could charge. I'm so glad I don't have to price jobs or bid on work, that is a tough game. Thanks for the video ✌️
What's the oldest welder you've met or seen? I'm 44 but I've been a diesel mechanic since dinosaurs roamed the earth and am so burnt out on it, and welding looks like the way to go
All you did was talk about work ethic, you didn’t say how you actually get the jobs. Where to advertise, how to advertise. I’m a millwright but I’m working on getting my own rig setup so I can be my own boss. I plan on having a fan shop for most of my projects, but at first I might be mobile welding, I just don’t know where to start on telling people I know how to do anything. Also, I’m not certified anymore so do you have to be? I’m still a good welder but I just haven’t had a job to need certs, mine expired.
It's been my experience that with welding certifications there is very little middle of the road with them. Either they don't care if you have the cert only if you can do it or at the other end they make you test for their certification at the start of the job and aren't really interested in outside certifications.
Your advice videos are the best!
