I had a welding business for about 7 years. I agree with all the job opportunities listed. Probably 70% of my work was architectural: railings, AC cages, gates, and security doors. The only thing I would add to the video is that I repaired a lot of trailers and lawn equipment. I am getting close to retirement and I am going to start welding again part time.
I’m a sophomore in highschool and I’m saving up for a pancake hood and a stick welder.Hopefully by summer I’ll have all my tools to start hustling.
You got this man! Just manage your money
TheWeldLab I’ll take that advice big bro.And preciate it 🙏🏼
I wish I would have started straight out of high school. It’s hard, it sucks sometimes, but it’s a very rewarding trade and if you don’t hate doing it you probably love it. Always have a half year of expenses saved up and market yourself whenever possible.
@@jacobcarolan1172 what did you do instead? And did you finally pursue welding?
@@saintbronze2 . The context of his reply indicates to me that he got a late start and is welding.
Been running a welding business for the past year, love this channel and how transparent you are with everything, it gives me confidence I'm doing things right, and teaches me when I'm not. Keep this content going, I think you're helping many more people than you may realize. Cheers Rico
*Love the tungsten holders. I carry two different kinds of long tungstens and I hate losing them. Could you make it extra long and tie one end of them together with a cable or chain? Thanks!*
Your doing it! Thanks for being real about this. You got some great ideas, and I’m not ashamed to tell you I’ve picked up a couple things… I appreciate your perspective.

Good job on your video and content, very professional!
I don’t know if your company is a llc but if it is can you go into that and how you do it like insurance and taxes all that? Thanks for your vids bro
Hire a lawyer to do the registration and hire an accountant to do your taxes at the end of the year and ask him what you need to give him/her in order for him to do your taxes but i suggest you hire a free lance book keeper to organize your finances ( its simple, keep receipts, use quickbooks software or online and thats it)
@@esteban3990 this is what I did. I also have a tax agent that does the filing for me
UA-cam starting a llc
Thanks for the video man. I just ordered my first machine today. I started an LLC and got some sanitary welding work but its only on call so I want to get the ball rolling on my own work at home.
I’ll update my story here. It’s been two months and I’ve got my own welder and a small garage shop, that I also live in. I’ve got a couple customers and have done a few big jobs. It’s only growing here.

This video is solid compa. I’m 20 and finishing school and You’re making a huge impact in the career / business I am trying to figure out, la neta. Ima get a Mig/flux inverter this summer and try to get some fence jobs down. Keep it up bro you killing the game 💪💪🇲🇽. Saludos desde the Bay Area. Puro Michoacán 😂😂
Dude I know I'm late to the video but this content is so inspiring for me as a student in a small welding school
Rock plants and small construction company's always need repairs, resurfacing and hard facing. i have 2 contracts that keep me busy just about year around. A paving company and a rock plant. Besides that tons of fencing and trailer repairs. Hauling companies and landscape companies often need trailer repairs.
Great business acuity! Thanks for the ideas
Love it so helpful
Great vid, lot of good tips, ac crooks that was funny bro!
What kind of generator does the guy use to run his machine and would u be able to run a tig welder at 150 amps ?
I did welding out of back of a pickup for quite a few years, 1 bad customer & I quit, I had a Lincoln Ranger 9, and used a 1987 Toyota 2WD small truck, but long bed. so vehicle doesnt matter, I had generator, along with electric stick & mig machine, or bring the big engine drive. the truck was only vehicle, besides a motorcycle, so I had to load & unload everyday, as also had a primary job. I still do small jobs for people at my home, and field repairs, for people I know, I am slowly coming around to idea of going back out, but for the last decade, 1/2 or more of my work has been auto-body metal fabrication. cutting out & replace rusty metal. but I am tired of that, as I have done that off & on for 35 years.
I like idea of making something from what I have, but cant get decent ideas, but I probably have over 1,000 grocery store shelves, and many racks, displays, all were free, ddint haul off due to cheap steel prices. but at a loss to design something to make money from
Great video man 🤙🏼
just came across this page. Awesome stuff!! I recently moved back to Houston and looking for a welding job!! Hmu if you know anyone please. I’m certified from TWS. I worked for Sabre industries 2 years. Polaris 3months contract in Alabama. the rest is light fab work repairing and installing fences, stairs , sprey painting. Anything helps. Available to start anytime 🙏
Great info homie
You a bad dude bro 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
10 year business owner, I feel ya bud. im either working or im not 😂😭
Owning your own business is stressful lol
I’m new to the game man. I’ve had my business for about a year now. I’m 21 years old and the sole owner and operator. I have a big crane company here in Savannah GA that has kept me busy with big jobs for a long time, but things have died off with them and I’m struggling to find other consistent work. Getting your name out seems hard as hell in this industry and nobody wants to pay for quality work.
Nobody noticed who Meltin Metal Anthony is?
@@user-cc9mx1ds5fwow we need a collab!
Thanks brother!
Holy crap man I used to work with Adrian. He's still rocking the flexsteel shirt!
❤ I love dis my son is into welding
Awesome video too thanks
Would you do a video on quoting jobs. Mig vs TIG shop and field? Thanks man love the vids.
Very good tips 💪
What welder are you using on the truck I’m looking at a miller trailer blazer 325 what would you suggest on starting a rig
You should make a website that your subscribers can pay a small fee to enter and lists your connects to the pipe industry jobs and/or other big paying jobs. For rig welders and non-rig welders
I like the idea
Thank you man
Pura lumbre 🔥 mi compa saludos desde Tijuana Mexico
Good shit bro 🤝🏿💪🏿
I need help how do you quote a a/cage? And where do you recommend to buy metal to fab in Houston???

Question what size/type of generator do you use to run that Lincoln electric 140 because I have one and I’m tired of having to find a wall outlet all the time
Very detailed high quality video brother. Thank you
Very cool, I just started learning to weld like a year or two ago, I really love it so I’m trying to learn what I can make the same thing of over and over I guess you guys call it production welding anyway I fab like canopies and the rafters and wall brackets but I want something I can do on my own like a product, any ideas?? Oh it has to be preferably aluminum

Can you elaborate more on sanitary welding please
Can you make a video on how to estimate jobs like simple jobs for welders, for example like how to estimate on building a gate etc etc that’ll be great content
if the supplies is 1000 charge 2k
Whats up brother, just subscribed to your page. Im looking to get into the welding field. You seem to know what your doing over all bro. Do you think its worth going to a trade school and dropping 40k? I honestly dont know where to start….
How do you go on about quoting jobs like fence repairs/fence additions? Especially if they provide the material. Is there different situations when you should charge hourly vs for the job? Or should one charge hourly overall?
If I'm building something I know how long it takes and I'm getting materials, etc, I'll quote by the job. If I am working on site, they are handling materials, etc, I go by the hour and give an estimate. By the job, the biggest risk is you underestimate how long it's going to take, so only bid that way when you are in control of the majority of factors that effect how long a job takes.
Okay forsure now I get it. I'll be sure keep this info with me. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Oye mucho ayuda, ahora puedo usar mi 3g cert sience no jobs outhere
Cómo le ases para calcular cuánto se tiene que cobrar por ir aser una soldadura a domicilio

Liability insurance for the small business has been most difficult. The limitations imposed by the insurance companies prevent common repairs that people need. Read all the fine print so you won't do a job and find you have no coverage just when you need it. If you get sued the judgment won't go away. This problem started for my little sanitary process welding-fab company in 2007 and eventually caused my husband to retire. As we own our california home failure to have adequate liability will distroy us financially. So any thoughts out there welders ?
had a shop/mobile for over 10 years....insurance and accreditation is a must. Never got sued, but had to sue a few deadbeats that dragged their feet in paying up. Key is recording everything on paper, and photos of completed work. Corporate, repeat and govt work was no problem getting payed....it was the private one off customers that need close monotroing, and require progress paymnets as the work progresses.
What’s the meat that he used to hold the food on the grill
Much respect to you brother. Your videos are very helpful to me. One day I'll try to help with merch. Thank you for your content.
What is the best and coolest. Pants or button up shirts to get. Sometimes one thing we build I have to grind alot. It is just chewing through my jeans.
And cotton frs
Yessir what I’ve been looking for
Hope this helps
Help me out, you charge hourly based on your experience? Or you have a idea of the price of the material? You ever price the material first then give a estimate to the potential client?
I quote out material+hourly rate+ tax+ profit. For instance I just made some table legs. My quote came out low. ($200) the base is for a granite counter. I upped to $350 to include gas, paint and some consumables I have to buy to make them. I always call the metal shop and get a rough price on my material before I make the quote. I’d price goes up I honor the previous quote. That’s why I mark up. To cover my ass and keep surprises minimal.
Yo bro I’m in Houston tx to at elite welding academy learning how to pipe weld shieeet if I get certified bro lemme work for you 😂🤷♂️

Call other welding companies and ask
Bro what do you recommend for shop welders to make more money? I don’t have a rig or any of my own equipment. Thank you
Well, I used to save save and save until I got that single cab dually I wanted. Then save save and save again to get either a cheap gas Welder or a SA200. That's how I did it 7 years ago
Ruben isn't totally wrong. Saving money is 1st. You DON'T need a dually or diesel or anything major in most cases. You can use a trailer setup for welding or a truck of any kind that can handle the weight of the tools. Depending on how far off road you are going depends on what you need for equipment. Start with a $2,000 max trailer, add in a used $500 welder, $500 in accessories, $500 generator to run the welder (only necessary is you're in the fields/woods), and $500 in miscellaneous tools to start. That is $4,000 total assuming you have a vehicle to tow the trailer. If you saved $100 per week, you would have $5,200 in 1 year. If you really want this, you can save/make the $100 per week. Dedication/commitment is what is needed first.
My manz sounding like he wanna cry but low-key holding back them tears. Listen to his voice quiver😥😢
