Happy New Year everyone! I know it has been over a week since I last uploaded and I will explain what's been going with me in an upcoming video. I just want you to know I am super appreciative for all the support and feel so grateful for the position I'm in. Sometimes it's hard for me to deal with the stresses, pressure and responsibility that comes with having so many eyes on me, but knowing that we have such a supportive community around Simnett Nutrition who doesn't forget about me after a week of no uploads, definitely eases my worries. Thanks for the love friends.

    • @tibhamel

Make sure to not overdo it with the salt. Less processed foods already means less salt, so don't worry too much about how much salt you should add, and focus on what tastes best, or you will get bored of eating pretty quickly ;)

6:45 Ironically, if a person really cares about their health, they don't go to restaurants. The only time I go to restaurants is on vacation. I began to notice how salty and oily the restaurant food is when I go on that rare occasion to a restaurant. On vacation, we usually stop by a supermarket to pick up some fruit to keep in the hotel room because that is the one food typically not used in restaurant preparations.

Derek I have great news!!! I just had my yearly physical and I lost 15 lbs since last year, but I really lost those 15 lbs since I started watching your videos in the fall. Every morning and afternoon I watch your videos to inspire me. Another good thing is that my blood work showed that my liver enzymes were normal! Last year I was diagnosed with a fatty liver, and had to do an ultrasound. If I didn't lose some weight by this appointment to get those elevated enzymes under control I would have had to have a biopsy of my liver. My fasting glucose is still a little high, and I go back in 1 month to have new blood work taken. My goal is to lose another 10-15 lbs by then and get my glucose down. The Doctor told me I was not allowed to have white rice, white potatoes, pasta or white bread in that time. I haven't gone completely vegan yet, but you are helping me so much to want to eat lots of greens and give up the meat and dairy. I'm starting tomorrow, cold turkey. You've inspired me to really eat healthy & get my health under control. I have alot of weight to lose, but I believe this is the year I am going to do it! Thank you for inspiring me to take control of how I eat and getting my health back! God Bless you & Crystal! Keep up the great Work!

@@unlockyoursoulmemory4199 generally its not the tastes, it's the texture. I know that's a dumb thing to say but, shrug. So i'll eat a mile high pile of peas and sweetcorn but tomato makes me want to puke.... but i'll add tomato sauce to just about anything. I love orange flavoured anything and it's probably my favorite flavour.... but not oranges o_O Some sort of childhood eating disorder, probably. Step one is i'll get a proper blender and just blend the heck out of everything. I'm in my 30's and never eaten lettace, beetroot, cabbage, brussel sprouts, cucumber, and a massive long list of things that just repulse me, but flavour wise they're all pretty bland.

Fellow Canadian here. I have been vegan for a little over a week. I was having acid reflux really bad in the last 2 weeks before I started to become a vegan. Within 3 days I felt better and acid reflux is gone. I have been trying to find recipes that are easy to do as I work until 7pm.

I love this recipe since it's almost an approach more than a specific dish: From this one recipe, you can understand a whole style of vegan eating, both practical and tasty.

Derek, I love your videos and all of your recipes! But I had to laugh at this one because it's exactly what I make for my dog (minus the onion and garlic, of course!). This is not an insult to you though, since she had exceptional taste. Thank you for all of your ideas and for being so down to earth. I send new vegans your way all the time!

Awesome video and thank you for everything you do. You made me vegan 10 months ago i feel so thankfull, healthy and more alive. Take all the time you need, you always have my support. Because of you there are more vegans, and because of that you made the world a healthier and better place. And because of you less animals suffer. You can be proud of that. :) Greetings from The Netherlands.

Derek. Lighting tricks for your vids, if you light it with two lights- one for your face and another for your background,,,,,you can put a colour filter on you background one,,say a cool colour one, blue, and a warm orangish one for your face, you can make vids pop. Also try not to use the ring light for your eyes too much, it can be off putting as its not natural. If you put a soft box up with the ring light inside, it will soften your face and not look so "ringy"...... ps yes I am a pro Photographer...
GREAT VIDS BTW- YOU HELPED AND CONTINUE TO HELP ME WITH MY VEGAN FOODS AND EXERCISE. I have ADHD and notice a massive difference in managing my various problems that go with it. Keep on trucking.!

I love your videos and resources. If you're still looking for video ideas: I drive a shaved ice truck for 8 months of the year - since I'm out in the truck I look for things that are 1) Prepared beforehand, 2) can eat cold, 3) plant-based-whole-food. I would love to see your take on this. Maybe how to prep some vegan meals that I could eat cold on the go. Also, I can stop by grocery stores on my lunch or dinner break - so maybe something I could mix up on site w/ few utensils? Not everyone has this, but my (food) truck does have a running sink & refrigeration. I switched to clean eating in 2017 summer - lost 30 lbs. in 6 mo. Looking to build on that and begin cutting meats & animal products. Thanks!

Great video. It would be cool if you did a "Vegan from Scratch" video where you assume someone has a completely bare cupboard and you show how to build up from nothing to a fully stocked kitchen with tips for everything from staples to goodies. You have a lot of these tips in your shopping haul videos and others but if you pulled it together in one guide it would be neat.

What's the best way to warm this up as a leftover? In a pot with a little water in bottom? Don't like to use microwave.
Ok, made it for the first time ( no leftovers!) : added some Himalayan pink salt, black pepper, 1 t curry powder, 1/2 t cumin, 1/2 t coriander , didn't have many frozen green peas so added some frozen corn. Came out really tasty, but a little too wet, will use less broth next time. Added a dash of coconut aminos at end. I like the carrots, but would like cauliflower crunchier ; next time will chop smaller and add with peas and see what happens. This is an easy go-to recipe and I like how variable it is. Look forward to adding some hot sauce at end next time.

I hope to push back into vegan ways and this helps. Not eating meat, eggs, fish, but dairy stuff still present. I gotta focus on the nutrients more this time, last time I just kinda winged it by eating a lot of calories but not enough variety of nutrients

I find it cute how most Americans don't know how to cook plants. Apparently, I find ignorance to be cute. I am glad you are teaching them. My ancestors have been doing it for centuries in southwest India. Some of them do eat fish, but most do not.

Whole Food Plant-Based Man, so true about us Americans. I recently saw a video where a kindergarten teacher showed children pictures of different vegetables and fruit, most kids didn't know what they were. I grew up in the country and we had 3 gardens, and we additionally grew grapes, blackberries, and strawberries. So, growing up I ate all my plant foods and I thought everyone else ate similarly, but when I went to college I found many of my classmates ate primarily processed foods as well as fast food. I am lucky I guess as I was never used to eating out on a regular basis (not many fast food restaurants in the country) nor did I eat much processed food; thus, going vegan just seemed and is natural for me.

@@Mud-Sock-Girl At one of the Body Worlds Exhibits, a kid was asking the mother, "are we going to eat this meat?"
Those are plastinated human organ systems. That was very dumb kid.

What would be helpful for next videos to inspire non vegans is to insert more videos of you doing exercices ans showing how muscular you are. People are still stuck with being an athlete= eating meat. Vegans=weak people. You have an amazing physics. Bring it forward more.
