Happy New Year everyone! I know it has been over a week since I last uploaded and I will explain what's been going with me in an upcoming video. I just want you to know I am super appreciative for all the support and feel so grateful for the position I'm in. Sometimes it's hard for me to deal with the stresses, pressure and responsibility that comes with having so many eyes on me, but knowing that we have such a supportive community around Simnett Nutrition who doesn't forget about me after a week of no uploads, definitely eases my worries. Thanks for the love friends.
I have to say I've missed watching your new uploads but completely understand and an patiently awaiting anything you add. 😊 Take care of you first, then Crystal, then Cocoa lol.
I look up to you and your lifestyle! I’m a 16 year old and I was 264 pounds. Currently 100 pounds down thanks to staying active and a Whole Foods plant based diet!
I started being Vegan a year ago, it was a good first step, I learned alot and made some mistakes but this year I 'm going to Level 2 Vegan with less processed foods, salt, oil, sugar, and more whole foods.
Make sure to not overdo it with the salt. Less processed foods already means less salt, so don't worry too much about how much salt you should add, and focus on what tastes best, or you will get bored of eating pretty quickly ;)
@@tibhamel Im already months into less sugar/salt/oil. I try to cut down maybe 10% every month or 2. Im already at a point where if/when normal people ate my food they would say "this needs more salt/sugar" but it tastes perfectly fine to me.

I watched your "Advice for new vegans" video about 1,5 years ago. I had been a vegetarian for 2 years then, but it gave me the final push to leave all animal products behind me and became vegan. Since then I have lost a little more that 50lbs and built noticable muscles. Thank you for that :)

Bobby did it all for the views. Vegans get fooled into following people's journeys through raw veganism and intermittent fasting and whatnot, and all of those are great, but these fake vegans are only thinking about their UA-cam channels.
6:45 Ironically, if a person really cares about their health, they don't go to restaurants. The only time I go to restaurants is on vacation. I began to notice how salty and oily the restaurant food is when I go on that rare occasion to a restaurant. On vacation, we usually stop by a supermarket to pick up some fruit to keep in the hotel room because that is the one food typically not used in restaurant preparations.
Derek I have great news!!! I just had my yearly physical and I lost 15 lbs since last year, but I really lost those 15 lbs since I started watching your videos in the fall. Every morning and afternoon I watch your videos to inspire me. Another good thing is that my blood work showed that my liver enzymes were normal! Last year I was diagnosed with a fatty liver, and had to do an ultrasound. If I didn't lose some weight by this appointment to get those elevated enzymes under control I would have had to have a biopsy of my liver. My fasting glucose is still a little high, and I go back in 1 month to have new blood work taken. My goal is to lose another 10-15 lbs by then and get my glucose down. The Doctor told me I was not allowed to have white rice, white potatoes, pasta or white bread in that time. I haven't gone completely vegan yet, but you are helping me so much to want to eat lots of greens and give up the meat and dairy. I'm starting tomorrow, cold turkey. You've inspired me to really eat healthy & get my health under control. I have alot of weight to lose, but I believe this is the year I am going to do it! Thank you for inspiring me to take control of how I eat and getting my health back! God Bless you & Crystal! Keep up the great Work!
Congrats on all your progress! Have you heard of the cookbook, This Cheese is Nuts? I'm lactose intolerant and this book allows me to enjoy old favorites. Teff grain (not actually a grain) is another great food. It's high in protein, fiber, iron, etc. It's also supposed to help regulate hormones. Peace!
The only thing I might add would be a word of caution about the importance of slowly ramping up on the legumes / resistant starches, to avoid discomfort. I recommend people start with tofu, then move on to small portions of soaked beans to test the waters before going all out. Great vid!
Such good advice! When I started I was gassy and smelly for almost 2 months. It was bad enough for me to rethink my decision but yes, your gut microbiome will settle down. A must know for beginners!

The Keto ad reporting was very satisfying.I also really appreciate your channel, Great to share knowledge and the importance of nutrition. Today it is misconstrued in the aspect of utilizing nutrition to make purely muscular “gains” as opposed to health and fitness. This has been becoming a detriment both physically and mentally. Love the vids boss.
You are just so awesome! I am nodding my head to everything you are saying!! YESSSS Share this with everyone!! That meme you shared about being 'natural' yesss... Really proud of your videography, Derek! Keep it up, you've not only changed my life, but have also been the inspiration that has affected hundreds of my friends. Thanks man!
Hi! I've been vegan for almost a year now, and I can't imagine ever going back to an omnivorous diet. However, my new year's resolution is to buy less substitute products, and predominantly eat a whole foods plant based diet, so I'll be definitely searching through your channel for inspiration! Thanks for all the effort you put into educating us plebs, haha :)
Hi Derek thanks again I taken control of what I eat now since following you, lost 10kg now 82kg and got my gut down to 100cm and still going doing the nearly same exercise as you. I'm 62yrs old
Great key words at @4:41 "Get excited about learning about your health and nutrition because it's an exciting thing...." Thanks, Derek. Keep cranking out that content, bro.
Hey Derek, just wanted to let you know that your videos are one of the main influences for my switch to the plant-based lifestyle! I began five months ago, and don't plan on going back! Lifts and running times have increased as well as my overall being. Thank you!
Legit, your OG video helped me so much! So happy to see a new one! It really is so exciting to learn about our health. Our bodies are the coolest and taking care of them is the coolest thing to do. Thank you always to you and Crystal!
Unfortunately, every one in my life is against me going vegan, so I pretty much have 0 real life supporters, but you're more than enough for me as an online supporter couse you talk about organism in such a positive way and it really helps me up when it feels too hard, sooo...... yeah Hope you never stop 😊
Hi Derek I've been a vegetarian for almost two years and now going vegan.. thank you for you amazing content it is helping me a lot. Love from Argentina ❤
Derek Simnett to continue crushing it in 2019 💪. I remember watching your other video when I first went vegan 1.5 years ago and it helped so much. Thanks for the continued content, and support you provide in this movement.
I love your recipes so much! I’m a very picky eater, so being vegan and limiting my food choices even more is kind of challenging for me. But your recipes are so easy to adjust to my personal taste that it’s much easier for me since I discovered your channel. Thank you 😊
I never, ever thought I would consider eliminating meat from my diet but after noticing changes in the meat and seeing documentary’s that support everything I thought I’ve been really wanting to try going vegan. It’s difficult for sure. I’m a big texture guy and I’m not the biggest fan of beans and legumes.
Fellow Canadian here. I have been vegan for a little over a week. I was having acid reflux really bad in the last 2 weeks before I started to become a vegan. Within 3 days I felt better and acid reflux is gone. I have been trying to find recipes that are easy to do as I work until 7pm.
I love this recipe since it's almost an approach more than a specific dish: From this one recipe, you can understand a whole style of vegan eating, both practical and tasty.
I am happy to know what you are doing. I grew up in the minority as the only vegetarian in public. Vegetarians and vegans won't be in the minority anymore in the future.
17:33 LOL I burst out laughing. Good luck this year on UA-cam, Derek. Your channel is growing so quickly and we all love you. You and Crystal take care xo

Thank you Derek- yes I stumbled upon your first you tube video and that was 8 months ago now. Never looked back! Thank you for being such a great teacher...unmoveable from what you believe In Derek and I love that! (Although I don’t think unmoveable is actually a word!!) Very best wishes for 2019 Derek. Love to Your First Lady :) x
Derek, I love your videos and all of your recipes! But I had to laugh at this one because it's exactly what I make for my dog (minus the onion and garlic, of course!). This is not an insult to you though, since she had exceptional taste. Thank you for all of your ideas and for being so down to earth. I send new vegans your way all the time!
Awesome video and thank you for everything you do. You made me vegan 10 months ago i feel so thankfull, healthy and more alive. Take all the time you need, you always have my support. Because of you there are more vegans, and because of that you made the world a healthier and better place. And because of you less animals suffer. You can be proud of that. :) Greetings from The Netherlands.
Derek. Lighting tricks for your vids, if you light it with two lights- one for your face and another for your background,,,,,you can put a colour filter on you background one,,say a cool colour one, blue, and a warm orangish one for your face, you can make vids pop. Also try not to use the ring light for your eyes too much, it can be off putting as its not natural. If you put a soft box up with the ring light inside, it will soften your face and not look so "ringy"...... ps yes I am a pro Photographer... GREAT VIDS BTW- YOU HELPED AND CONTINUE TO HELP ME WITH MY VEGAN FOODS AND EXERCISE. I have ADHD and notice a massive difference in managing my various problems that go with it. Keep on trucking.!
I love your videos and resources. If you're still looking for video ideas: I drive a shaved ice truck for 8 months of the year - since I'm out in the truck I look for things that are 1) Prepared beforehand, 2) can eat cold, 3) plant-based-whole-food. I would love to see your take on this. Maybe how to prep some vegan meals that I could eat cold on the go. Also, I can stop by grocery stores on my lunch or dinner break - so maybe something I could mix up on site w/ few utensils? Not everyone has this, but my (food) truck does have a running sink & refrigeration. I switched to clean eating in 2017 summer - lost 30 lbs. in 6 mo. Looking to build on that and begin cutting meats & animal products. Thanks!
Great video. It would be cool if you did a "Vegan from Scratch" video where you assume someone has a completely bare cupboard and you show how to build up from nothing to a fully stocked kitchen with tips for everything from staples to goodies. You have a lot of these tips in your shopping haul videos and others but if you pulled it together in one guide it would be neat.
What's the best way to warm this up as a leftover? In a pot with a little water in bottom? Don't like to use microwave. Ok, made it for the first time ( no leftovers!) : added some Himalayan pink salt, black pepper, 1 t curry powder, 1/2 t cumin, 1/2 t coriander , didn't have many frozen green peas so added some frozen corn. Came out really tasty, but a little too wet, will use less broth next time. Added a dash of coconut aminos at end. I like the carrots, but would like cauliflower crunchier ; next time will chop smaller and add with peas and see what happens. This is an easy go-to recipe and I like how variable it is. Look forward to adding some hot sauce at end next time.
I hope to push back into vegan ways and this helps. Not eating meat, eggs, fish, but dairy stuff still present. I gotta focus on the nutrients more this time, last time I just kinda winged it by eating a lot of calories but not enough variety of nutrients
I find it cute how most Americans don't know how to cook plants. Apparently, I find ignorance to be cute. I am glad you are teaching them. My ancestors have been doing it for centuries in southwest India. Some of them do eat fish, but most do not.
Whole Food Plant-Based Man, so true about us Americans. I recently saw a video where a kindergarten teacher showed children pictures of different vegetables and fruit, most kids didn't know what they were. I grew up in the country and we had 3 gardens, and we additionally grew grapes, blackberries, and strawberries. So, growing up I ate all my plant foods and I thought everyone else ate similarly, but when I went to college I found many of my classmates ate primarily processed foods as well as fast food. I am lucky I guess as I was never used to eating out on a regular basis (not many fast food restaurants in the country) nor did I eat much processed food; thus, going vegan just seemed and is natural for me.
@@Mud-Sock-Girl At one of the Body Worlds Exhibits, a kid was asking the mother, "are we going to eat this meat?" Those are plastinated human organ systems. That was very dumb kid.
What would be helpful for next videos to inspire non vegans is to insert more videos of you doing exercices ans showing how muscular you are. People are still stuck with being an athlete= eating meat. Vegans=weak people. You have an amazing physics. Bring it forward more.

My favourite vegan youtuber. All help and no judgement xx. Food prep and keeping up your calories with a variety of food are my top tips.
ive been vegetarian for five years and made the jump to vegan this january as well as getting sober, im so happy and i luv ur channell!
I went Vegan January 7th! I’m already seeing differences in my body. 💜💜 I’ve learned so much from you!! Your amazing!!
Been diabetic 19 years. Went Vegan Oct 4th 2021. Day 73 my doctor took me of 4 diabetic meds, I've lost 40 pounds in 4 months an decreased 2 other meds! Thanks you too!
Been a year now , and you are a go to for me . thanks for your time and effort. because i still enjoy your videos from a fellow Canadian!!!
Thank you!!. Yesterday i binge watch a lot of your videos because i want to make the change from vegetarian to vegan.
You are rocking this video - great energy and enthusiasm - such a helpful and positive person!!! Love it :)
Awesome!! Love the food. Thank you for the info, it was super helpful.
You are just so awesome! I am nodding my head to everything you are saying!! YESSSS Share this with everyone!! That meme you shared about being 'natural' yesss... My husband often says 'plants have feelings too' I just roll my eyes. --- I didn't know to look for a vegan D3... better go check mine! thanks for all of the knowledge!!
I agree that support groups online are awesome for motivation. I don’t know any other vegans and this helped me. Vegan For Her is a good one.
Bro, your eyes look crazy in this vid. It's like that vegan power is glowing inside you..
New camera light, not a good look tho.. I prefer him walking in the woods anyway..
Really proud of your videography, Derek! Keep it up, you've not only changed my life, but have also been the inspiration that has affected hundreds of my friends. Thanks man!
Cooking this tonight! Thanks Derek ☺️
Thank you!
Amazing to hear Justin, thank you.
Legit, your OG video helped me so much! So happy to see a new one! It really is so exciting to learn about our health. Our bodies are the coolest and taking care of them is the coolest thing to do. Thank you always to you and Crystal!
Thank you so much Kat!
Unfortunately, every one in my life is against me going vegan, so I pretty much have 0 real life supporters, but you're more than enough for me as an online supporter couse you talk about organism in such a positive way and it really helps me up when it feels too hard, sooo...... yeah
Hope you never stop 😊
Derek, you’re a bloody ray of sunshine brother!!👍💪🏼💪🏼
Hi Derek I've been a vegetarian for almost two years and now going vegan.. thank you for you amazing content it is helping me a lot. Love from Argentina ❤
So glad you posted a video. Thank you! And I hope all is well with you.
Love your videos and your positive energy! Life gets to all of us sometime. 😉
Great advice, we need more healthy vegans to be mentors and help those new to it. Less fighting amongst us and more supporting each other is needed.
Derek Simnett to continue crushing it in 2019 💪. I remember watching your other video when I first went vegan 1.5 years ago and it helped so much. Thanks for the continued content, and support you provide in this movement.
Thanks so much Mark, really appreciate all your support.
I love your recipes so much! I’m a very picky eater, so being vegan and limiting my food choices even more is kind of challenging for me. But your recipes are so easy to adjust to my personal taste that it’s much easier for me since I discovered your channel. Thank you 😊
Awesome, I love hearing that.
My challenge was no oil salad dressing which you did an awesome video of that saved me big time. Thank you Derek!
Awesome! I love dressings, they make such a difference. I am going to make a mother dressing video. I think they are so important.
Mealprepping is making it really easy for me :D
Yes! Meal prepping is amazing. The instant pot is game changing for that too.
I'll look up the instant pot.
I love this recipe since it's almost an approach more than a specific dish: From this one recipe, you can understand a whole style of vegan eating, both practical and tasty.
I enjoy your energy bro, been vegan for almost a month and a half thanks to you!!
I am happy to know what you are doing. I grew up in the minority as the only vegetarian in public. Vegetarians and vegans won't be in the minority anymore in the future.
Will definitely try that for the base of my meals. Thanks for the recipe!
No problem, enjoy!
That video was great, it helped me a lot at the time. Thank you Derek, stay true and you💪
Dude I just tried this recipe and it is awesome. I will cook it for my family when I visit them the next time. Thanks!
Aw man you bust my gut. Thanks for that little gem for those of us who hang out til the last sec. Haha
that was the first Video I saw, been following you ever since!
17:33 LOL I burst out laughing. Good luck this year on UA-cam, Derek. Your channel is growing so quickly and we all love you. You and Crystal take care xo
Thank you so much!
Going to try some recipes hopefully this will help with my diabetes! And new stuff to cook etc ! Thanks for the recipes!
Happy New Year Derek! I've been following your channel for almost 1 year and keep on learning new info in every one of your videos. Keep up the hard work, you're inspiring! 🙂
yesssss to the props part lol i felt that 🙂 I've been vegan for a week and your video (the one you speak of in this video) is what made me go at it full force.. thank you for your knowledge and videos
Another solid video. Nothing untruthful or agenda driven, just great content meant to help society. Thumbs-up Derek. I'm not too sure how you get any thumbs-down on your videos. Enjoy your week and I look forward to your next video. Darren
Thank you so much. That means so much to me. I just want to help as many people as I can. I am glad it comes across.
Thanks Derek. I’m going on my second year! Love your videos fellow Canadian!
Pretty cool to see your progress since 3 years ago! Great tips, can't wait to try the recipe! Thanks!
I love you positive Vegan Vibes man!! And I love your videos keep it up!!!!!!
Great video as always! Thank you, Derek!!
Awesome video derek! Thank you so much for the extra motivation. 2019 will be my first full year vegan! We got this 💪🏻🌱
Happy New Year! Great video, to the point! Thanks❣️
Just made this meal and it was surprisingly good!! Thanks ;)
Thanks for the great tips for 2019! Love watching your videos. I'm a little over a month into cutting out most meat and dairy from my diet!
The recipe looks delish!! Great video
Laughed out loud so hard at the end when you spit the food out! 🤣 Stay real. Stay quirky. Happy 2019, Derek!
Happy New Year Derek and Crystal ... GREAT vid' as usual
Fab going make this tomoz will check out your other recipes an homemade sauces Thankyou 😘
If your avocado is ripe enough you can use the dull side of knife to slice it in peel and avoid slicing your palm. Live you guys.
I don't know if it's the camera, but your eyes are so beautiful. Probably you hear this all the time. ;)
Thanks for sharing your recipe!
Thank you so much :)
A cool vegan snack you should try is sliced jicama with Tajín and lemon.
Yum, can't wait to try this recipe out!
Your old video helped me alot when I was transitioning. Hopefully this one well help many others!
I hope to push back into vegan ways and this helps. Not eating meat, eggs, fish, but dairy stuff still present. I gotta focus on the nutrients more this time, last time I just kinda winged it by eating a lot of calories but not enough variety of nutrients
This ones a good one ! It’s a lot easier then it seems at first new vegans form the habits it’s worth it !
Very persuasive and informative Thank you.
I find it cute how most Americans don't know how to cook plants. Apparently, I find ignorance to be cute. I am glad you are teaching them. My ancestors have been doing it for centuries in southwest India. Some of them do eat fish, but most do not.
Maybe you're a teacher
@@Mud-Sock-Girl At one of the Body Worlds Exhibits, a kid was asking the mother, "are we going to eat this meat?"
Those are plastinated human organ systems. That was very dumb kid.
Thanks for continuing to inspire Derek & Crystal!
What would be helpful for next videos to inspire non vegans is to insert more videos of you doing exercices ans showing how muscular you are. People are still stuck with being an athlete= eating meat. Vegans=weak people. You have an amazing physics. Bring it forward more.
