She’s so energetic and lively. Can see why she had such a long running successful #1 talk show. Loves to engage and talk and tell stories. Much different than she is now, which is mellow today.

I came here after reading about their "feud" of 16 years that began on this show. She complained he was terrible to her. I don't think he did anything wrong. However, she was very nervous and seemed very intimidated by him. Perception is reality.
Im not sure what you dont see. In the first 50 seconds alone they start saying they havent seen the film and laugh about it. Next, he is talking to her like her excitment is uncalled for and treating her in subtle ways that she is "too much". Then he brings up her show and down plays it when she says it is named after her. "oOOH BIG SHOT" that is a BOOMER way of saying WOW YOU THINK YOURE ALL THAT?! And she laughed but her micro facial expressions and body language suggests it made her uncomfy. Then he says "Well what do you do on there cook or something?" Nah DICK she interviews people better than his ass ever has. But continues patronizing her and much like most of her career because she is a black woman who is doing what she loves while white america soaks it up and the other portion of white america tries to destroy her for being in their light.

Wow. Oprah said this supposedly terrible experience was why she never wanted to go on his show again, but Dave was very friendly and less confrontational than normal by a lot. It was Oprah who was trying to take control of the interview, asking him if he's read this book, teasing him about how many people help him, pointing out he's not an actor. Thin skin, evidently
It may not have been this appearance but I think something happened before that 1989 appearance because when she is first sitting down he leans into her and says "Try not to get hurt".
I'm pretty sure after this interview Paul made sure to watch every actor's movie that came on. And probably their entire filmography just to make sure.
Didn't you see him do the classic "tongue-in-cheek" face when Dave asked if he'd seen the movie? They could've cared less about Oprah or this movie. She was just another passing phase as far as they were concerned. Talk about an underestimation🤣
Oprah said that on her first appearance with Dave there were some dunks in the audience and dave encouraged them and it was an awful experience for her. I don't see any of that in this appearance.
@@dongiller I watched that episode. In one of her interviews with Dave, whilst recapping what happened and why she didn't want to do his show again, she said drunk men were yelling "rip her Dave" and that he was baiting them. After watching the interview, it was clearly a woman who was yelling out rip her Dave and heckling throughout.
@@playingwithrami have you got a link to that 1989 show because I've been looking for it. There is one still up on UA-cam but they've done something to the sound so one can't hear anything. The video is over an hour long so I flicked through it and saw Oprah looking towards the audience a couple of times with a surprised expression while Dave just laughed. I won't believe it was a woman heckling her until I hear and see it for myself.
Is this supossed to be the according to Oprah deeply uncomfortable appearance on letterman that made her not want to come on to the show for more then a decade? Honestly I don't see it the rapor between her and letterman actually seems quite pleasant.
Hey thx for the response, just checked the other video out and yeah not to much going on there either, I mean I wouldnt call it a very successful show either it did seem uncomfortable and unpleasant compared to this video but it mostly seemed down to a shitty audience that night and David not really sure how to handle that.
The part people didn't see in the 1989 interview were the heckles at her from the drunk audience, and she had felt that he egged them on. But yeah, in retrospect, how silly....and they ended up friends and mutual admirers.
@@hutch1197 blowen out of proportion, but not by Oprah, she just simply didn't want to do the show again but outside of that didn't make a big deal. Like she said it takes two to feud and there's no feud from my end... she just didn't want to do the show again.
Oprah was really dopey acting when she first became famous and was on other people's talk shows. She finally settled in and stopped acting goofy like here where she did the bunny hop when first introduced.
Thank you. Funny how no one noticed she is in an ego tussle with David. Oprah was a Narcissist from the beginning.. all the try hard charm & self congratulations. David was blissfully ignorant. She was already getting information on how much staff he had.
This was the show that (in her mind) was the cause of their long-time feud. She stated later (to Letterman himself) that he had felt intimidated throughout and that there were "drunks" in the front row harassing her, etc. After viewing this, it's hard to see why she had that reaction!
Wait... This is what started the whole feud? This is why Oprah was mad a Letterman for over a decade? Seems kinda petty to me. Nothing seemed disrespectful or mean or uncomfortable like she said it was...
@Devin Peirce And Dave is a very sarcastic and smart ass, and he completely underestimated Oprah as black woman in the TV game. But, look at her now...totally surpassed him in success and money! And she's a great person. Just confident and operating in her passion. She was born to do what she is doing.
How can anyone think this is poised . The silly handshakes , over talking , bouncing out as to make fun of her own weight . She would be horrified with how awkward and embarrassing she is here . She’s come a long way.
