I fished competitively for 18 years. My health has fully declined and I have become disabled. During the last year and a half, my wife has been diagnosed with MS. Between both of us being disabled, it is hard to get around like we used to. However, I have a background in journalism and I have been published in several national publications. I got my start in the local newspaper at age 18 while working another job that eventually led into the field of Loss Prevention. There, I studied interview and interrogation. I was sent to for training in the Wicklander-Zawalski method. While working in this field, I kept my love for fishing up by fishing every free moment I had. Later on, that led to tournament angling. I kept my writing up and worked as a freelance writer. I received a freelance contract with BASS Times and wrote there for a few years (the ESPN years) before the sale of the company. Since (and some during) I've ran trails and been on the board of others. Does that answer suffice?

Politics from EITHER SIDE have no place in fishing. It ruins it for EVERYONE ELSE. My channel has over 400,000 views and I've only had to say this about 10 times. 7 out of the 10 were totally cool about the rule. I hope i can count you in as #8.
Just curious. By Bass rules aren't Gman his Marshal and also Tmac's Marshal required to report violations.

Yes if Gerald doesn’t turn it in and his marshal does and gerald signs the paper saying he did nothing wrong and saw nobody else do wrong and it’s determined other wise they will DQ Gerald from the tournament for something another angler did that he saw.
I think that’s why swindle went up to him and was telling him what happened.. I can’t see swindle coming at him like a dick head but you never know.. but I could see that happening if he was responding to G like an ass. I just think G was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt and having him doing it himself so G wouldn’t be put inn that spot which I can respect. I’d want someone to approach me first and let me know
@@KhookemB my impression of it was that coming to him "man to man" was a save face move after the blowback started. Because, if he wanted to have a mature honest talk, he would have got him alone. This way he could tell him what he jad to do and why. But, to call him out in front of the press and kids? Nope, that's a move you do when you want to shame someone because you're pissed. Swindle thinks because he had blind followers, that his s*it doesn't stink. Well, he made his video because his actions smelled. It pretty much said so in the first 30 seconds! 🤣

This is why bass needs to address it and clear the air, both anglers are getting bashed and neither deserve it, gman would be at fault if he didn't report, and trey made a mistake not intentionally, but still broke a rule, I belive there a dif between breaking a rule and cheating
Gerald thinks he is getting bashed for reporting it, that's not why he is getting bashed. It's because he did it in front of other people.
Gerald showed his agitation with the situation in how he acted. Now he's trying to cover it up by saying "but all I did was report it". He got mad that he had to wait in line for Trey. He's Gerald Swindle he shouldn't have to wait for anybody. 🙄
Bass did address the issue. They penalized T-Mc 45min the next day. Where G screwed up was, he should have had his marshal call it in right when it happened, then it would have been a done deal.

You're absolutely right, age is not matter when it comes to the rules. The only reason I mentioned age was because the kid is green! It's not that he is not held to the same standard. It's that for Gerald's "brand" and what he says his intention was...he stepped on his own wanker. 🤣

Yeah, he s**t the bed. It wasn't cheating... But it sure was stupid! It probably cost him the AOY as well as the tournament! 🤣
@@cerebraltackle I’m definitely not saying he cheated but the story doesn’t seem to add up. It just seems fishy (see what I did there 😆). I hate it for him bc this cost him to retain the AOY. I live in Birmingham so I’ve really enjoyed seeing them fish two of the lakes I fish a good bit. They need to come back to Smith earlier in the year, we would see a few 5-6 lb spots. Several anglers have checked in over an hour early this week bc of fish care and the heat. I can’t wrap my mind around him being near the launch but missing it completely. I have a few friends that fish elites and some within the sport but haven’t heard anything directly. If there is something to come out it will leak.
@@cross_fire_ Actually, it makes PERFECT sense. The SECOND I heard about the penalty, I predicted EXACTLY what happened. Look - he wasn't paying attention (as he's shown is a personal flaw). He completely s**t the bed. He was fishing near the ramp. Once he was late, his mother got worried and called him. He saw it was her and answered! This is what cost him the rest of the weight. It totally fits. The kid has to learn!

This is a fact! Gerald Swindle turns his phone on silent and puts it away after 5pm everyday. Not saying it was after that time when Trey tried calling but it is possible
If you add up the time it takes to complete the way in, load the boat, and then stand around for autographs and interviews.... it is definitely after 5:00pm! I've been at those weigh-ins doing those interviews.

@@Mjones8383 your comment is exactly what I thought of when I saw he didn't answer. I bet that's why he didn't pick up the phone. But, you can't blame the kid for trying. The "no phone" policy after 5:00 p.m. isn't a bad idea. However, he might have asked somebody before turning in that protest. Especially before making a video! He should have known by then!
@cerebraltackle well if it were me I would have turned it in even if 7 others had, only because that's the rule. It doesn't say only if nobody has done it yet, just me though. I'm a stickler for rules though.

Trey did apologize publicly and I give him credit for that, but his response to Swindle is still super cringy and disrespectful even though he was caught off guard. Yes, Swindle probably could have pulled him aside and done things a little differently but I don’t think it was totally ridiculous with it
@@dualthreatoutdoors in person reports say that Gerald was yelling, trying to goat him into a fight. When it didn't work, Gerald got more angry.
I was waiting for this one after you hinted about it on MoneyBass's show last night. Always more to stories when you start digging deeper. Well done brother, Kudos. Bottom line, he admitted it, he paid a penalty, now lets hope we can all move on now and hope for a drama free rest of the tournament season.

I agree with this….
G was required to report it since he witnessed it. G decides to confront the young man to allow him the opportunity to report it himself. G called him out on it during an interview INSTEAD of pulling the young angler off to the side. A shitstorm ensued and that pretty much sums it up! And now social media is blowing this up into epic proportions like every other incident. This is the world we live in today.
I don't disagree. However, I believe Gerald's guise of being "man-to-man" was disingenuous. I think there was a little bit of being upset that he was getting stomped out by a kid.

I’m not sure how doing the right thing is the wrong thing . If Gerald signs that paper and just so happen he had good finish or a win . And they determine Gerald saw this infraction from another angler happen and didn’t turn it in. They then take Gerald’s placing or win and DQ him from the tournament for something another angler did that he seen . When you mess with my paycheck it becomes personal. And if I do wrong you better call me out or turn me in if I haven’t already .
You're close - I'm not saying that doing the right thing is wrong. He didn't do the right thing, correctly. If he would have taken the kid aside OR not signed his slip, reported the infraction and THEN told the kid what he did and why...would we be having this conversation?

Swindle talked to Trey letting him know what he did. By the "rules", if an angler sees another angler making a rules violation, they must report it, or they, themselves could be accessed the penalty. G-Man said he went to Trey first, hoping Trey would have said he will take care of it. But instead Trey had to be a 19yr old smart-ass to one of the legends, who has built this sport. If Trey had already reported it, why not just thank G-Man for coming to him first and telling him it has been taken care of. Instead of saying, "just do what you think you need to do".

I watched it again, and I saw all you had in the stream. So T-Mc did exactly as G requested when confronted. To turn himself in. Or (make the call). My question is, why have marshals if they don't do their jobs? Hence, it should have been handled 5min after the incident. Unless their wasn't good phone reception in the area. And then G wouldn't have had to confront T-Mc. Done deal.

From looking at the rules Gerald should have reported at weigh in. Why did he wait til the next day? My question is why didn't Swindle get in trouble for breaking rule C7? That is the Angler Code of conduct rule that states that an angler has to conduct themselves at all times in a professional manner that demonstrates integrity, honor, and respect towards other anglers, staff, and the public. Just saying. He always reminds us "rules are rules". He must've missed that on. He always gets by with it. Its getting really old. He always involves himself in these situations. From Poche to Trey he just seems to be chasing the social media buzz. I think that is what his career has become. I remember the days he was actually competing. Now he is staying relevant through social media. He did right telling Trey and reporting it but he hasn't handled it right from the start. Makes me really think he's starting to feel the "change" and doesn't like it. It scares him.
G made contact after the weigh-in same day. But G should of got T-Mc off to the side, without all the media around.

G is absolutely jealous of Trey. A "group" of anglers got very comfortable sitting back and just being an Elite. This new group of guys are hungry for it. They want it. They love it. From Ito all the way to Trey. I'll even throw John Cox , Lee Livesay and a few others into the hungry group. It's not enough to just be called an Elite anymore. You've got to prove it. For me that's exciting for guys like G, I think it's scarey.
When is the last time G has made the cut? He's always great on the stage but he also always seems to have an excuse. Just saying.
@@eatsquawk fishing is business. Making cuts is part of it but not the whole thing. Media and your brand play a bigger role in the game more than ever. G has more brand awareness than 75% of the guys on the Elites and has had an amazing career with many accomplishments. I don't think he would be jealous at all, more so happy for these young guy's. But neither of us will ever really know unless G ever talks about it. I don't think there is much to be jealous of sitting in his shoes. I promise you he is one of the better paid guys on tour, even with his lack of performance lately.

I disagree. Respect is one-on-one, not in front of everybody else in order to embarrass the person. There's nothing respectful in that. The kid acted more mature than most people would have. I would have been flipping tables.
