  • Hey everyone and welcome back to more Railroads Online! Today we have completed the coal mine but don't have any resources to trade for coal! As a result we're going to take another trip up the brand new bridge to the iron mine to deliver some iron down to the smelter in order to supply our coal production in the future!

My suggestion is to have a shunt yard right before the climb to the coal mine so you can exchange locomotives from a class 70 to a geared train to be as efficient as possible.

I use one on my map, not for switching power but to store hoppers and empty stake cars, so that i can grab them on the way back from the coal mine or iron mine.

Wouldn't need to be a full yard. A passing siding with a spur for the exchange locomotive would be enough. And you wouldn't have to swap locomotives in multiplayer since you could just use the geared locomotive as a banker.

I dont think you need multiple engines to the iron ore run.Eliminate those crazy tight curves and i bet you can climb that hill more easy

    • @vanitazazas
      @vanitazazas 2 роки тому +10

Exactly, that one tight curve at the end of the iron ore line causes the mogul to lose friction and therefore struggles to pull any load from there, that's why barely made it up the tyop this episode. So straighten out those curves, don't hug everything to the wall.

Railroads Online needs a kick switch - a switch with no machine that just flips left and right either by kicking it [really only seen on hobby railways like 7.5” gauge or 12” gauge] or by the train passing back through the switch the other way. Train goes through the straight section of track and pushed the points the opposite direction when coming back through the curves section of track (left switches to right, train passes back through, right switches to left)

For rerailing trains, could you build a series of rails like rungs on a ladder back to the mainline, rerail the train across the "rungs," then delete the rungs after? I'm not sure if you could do this or not, but I feel it could have saved some derailed cars you've had to delete in the past

I've been watching your videos for a few weeks now, Thanks for the entertaining content. To my eye something has all ways seemed off with the way your track looked/looks. My dad happened to walk by while I was viewing a video of yous. He said "Hey wheres the ballast?" I said "Right there under the track." The crushed rock that the track sits on is called ballast, apparently the ballast is supposed to come up to the top of the tie. I think Ballast and the fact that the rails are spiked to the ties is what prevents the rails from moving around and for drainage. He volunteers at a Railway museum In Lake Perris Cal. and one of the many things he does out there is lay real track with 90 or 120 pound/foot rail. So I take him at his word.

I think this would be were you need multiple people regularly running one specific route, one supplies iron mine, one takes it to smelter, one takes beams to the coal and another with rail, then there will be no issues (not including delays and interupting the schedule which can be fixed by someone running to back up incase of issue) you can constantly run trains without a worry

  • @zaklex3165

You don't need the tender brake when coasting downhill, you just have to apply the airbrake every so often. You don't leave the sander on, just turn it on for a second or two and then turn it off, that's all you need...and always make sure all brakes are completely off.

Engines controls with speedometer, brakes on cars, switches, zoom to different areas to locate cars, etc, all remotely. works best if you have two screens, but still better than jumping on and off trains. Also has a teleport mode, to change you location. Love your railroad.

You really got to rework that iron line loop. You barely made it up there with 4 coal/iron cars. The only thing that could make it on that loop is the gear train and that is by yourself and safely. I agree with Ryan Meade as well in putting a shunting yard or some way of swapping out one train for another closer to the areas they are going to be used in. That was you can quickly change them up.

Speed was measured by a gauge in the cab, or there were things called "mileposts" (in the UK at least) and you could use a stopwatch to measure the time between 2 of them and do a calculation (speed = distance over time right?), the third option is a dynamometer car but I have 0 idea of how they work

Yes most if not all locomotives have a speedometer in them

Love these videos. But I feel like they should add something to when u derail the train and tender u loose a percentage of wood each time so players pay more attention to the train. Or at least some type of damage.

I think having more people work on rail cleanup is necessary if you dont want to take it too long.

Don't forget that soon(TM) there will be a physics update (beta already launched) where load weights will be added, as well as train power outputs changed. I've heard Mogul is no more that good there, and Climax is the best loco to climb grades...

You know you can make the turns not so tight if you're willing to build a bit of the intended path

How much engine power does having the break compressor at 50% take? If the air brake pressure is full maybe none? Even if it's only a small amount of engine power, looks like it would be worth it to turn it off.

I feel like you should get more iron and that first to run a decent sized train to the iron mine

Honestly, one of these days wish you would take just one of the Betsy's and go around straightening out those kinks in your rails, especially the ones on those hill climbs and by the iron mine path you took today.
Even if you did it off camera for speed sake.
Both ends of that line are causing serious efficiency issues. If you listen to the train as it goes around the corners, you can really tell. Especially if you think of the firing and loudness as a percentage, it sounds like you lose like 10% each corner.
Also worried about the next big trip, you forget and just send the cargo off the rails again, considering how many trips that's looking to be.

Does the game simulate any braking effect if you throw the engine into reverse when rolling downhill?

Question: Why dont you put a Turn Table on top, pull the cargo up, turn the train on top, and hold the cargo down.. Then you only brake down and the slack is pulled out both ways, so you only manage the speed both ways, instead of the way down, the slack is pushed into you all the way down...
Im not a train guy, but this makes sense to my logik, and you dont have to turn all the carts on the top and dosent req. that much space to turn around...
Hope this is usefull, awesome video ;)

And that makes room for a shunt instead on the top, so if you have a multiplayer server, people can park in the shunt while one is unloading with the turn tabel at the end of the delivery line.... The shunts will have to waint to turn their train, but there will be room instead of the long loop thing...
      What do you think ?

Hey kan can you do a quick test for me bud ? If you put down foundation at a curve and then lay down track on the very very inner edge of the foundation does the track twist slightly I've noticed on some of my tracks one side leans to the inner side of the track and you can delete the foundation and lay new over the track
