  • Hello everyone and welcome back to the channel and well.....something pretty differerent. If you follow me on social media or watch the most awesome Plastic Crack Podcast, you will have seen that recently I have been captivated by the excellent and truly bizarre Turnip28.
    Turnip28 is the creation of Max Fitzgerald and is a ruleset designed for small battles with a handful of leaders and units. I will leave a link to Max's Patreon below that will link you to the current version of the rules.
    What I love about Turnip28 is the modelling aspect of it. The game is completely miniature agnostic in that there are no set figures for your army, everything is kitbashed and you have it look the way that you want it to look. As someone that enjoys kitbashing and creativity, Turnip28 has allowed my imagination to just run wild and I have enjoyed every single minute of working on this project.
    I have recently completed by first Turnip28 regiment and thought I would show you exactly what I have been up to for the last few weeks and what twisted and bizarre creations I have come up with for my regiment, the XIII Cohort.

    Loving the wet-looking mud on the bases. Really pulls the models together.
    I had an idea a while back, for making a Turnip28 force using the halfling models from Wargames Atlantic. Call them the Tater 28ers or something, stick burlap sacks over their heads. Tiny vegetable mutants, that worship potatoes. Maybe use The Aunts Ascendant cult, and stick a couple halflings in a hot air balloon. It would be, altogether, a unique force to say the least.

      The combination of the Vallejo water effect is absolutely fantastic and, like you said, it really ties the individual units together.
      That actually sounds like a really good idea! That's what I like about Turnip28 in that there are no figure ranges that you can't use, if you can imagine it then you can use it. The halfling idea would certainly make for a very interesting looking army 😁

    Great stuff Ste. I’ve read a bit about these rules and the background is really interesting. And the kitbashing potential is pretty much limitless, as you’ve clearly demonstrated here. It does sound like fun. 🙂

      Cheers Jim! As soon as I saw people creating these, I was like yeah....I need to have a go! Like you said, the kitbashing and opportunities for kitbashing are endless and there is no real right or wrong way for creating your army. The three or so weeks that I spent putting all this together were a lot of fun and definitelt something to my normal projects 😀

    I'm looking to get back into this and another channel mentioned it. I was feeling a bit meh about GW with its constant updates, pricing and gigantic new models anyway and had been thinking about model agnostic stuff for some time.
    You've really inspired me as to what can be done with some kitbashing and some imagination

    • @OnPointHQ

      That awesome, thank you! I'm glad you found the video helpful. Turnip28 is a game that I'd thoroughly recommend as from a kitbashing and modelling perspective there is literally endless creativity and you are only limited by your imagination. As its miniature agnostic,you are free to use whatever figures and bits and pieces you choose to build your units and regiments. Definitely my favourite current project 🙂

These are bunched together and also a applied to the figure using superglue. Hope that helps 😀

    a list of kits you took from. i need those helms

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  10 місяців тому

      This certainly made me think! The majority of the helmets in these units are from the Perry Miniatures 100 Years War plastic kits. They have a very distinct medieval style. The rest of the heads were a mixture of random bits and pieces from bits boxes - Napoleonic, GW flagellants, even a head from the plastic Gunfighters box by Great Escape Games. The vast majority of the bodies were plastic Napoleonic kits by Warlord Games - Prussian Landwehr and French Line Infantry with at least one Victrix British infantry model in there. The cavalry are a combination of 100 Years War plastics by Perry Miniatures and some pretty old Death Korps of Kreig by GW. The Stump Gun is made using an AWI cannon set by Warlord Games with more of the 100 Years War heads by Perry Miniatures. Hope that helps 😃👍

      Most of the kits that I used here were Napoleonic kits by Warlord Games, mainly Prussian Landweher and French Napoleonic Line Infantry. They come with separate heads which is idea for Turnip28 kitbashing. The heads are mostly from the plastic 100 Years War kits by Perry Miniatures as they have the medieval style that fits with the Turnip28 style. The Landsknechts are plastic kits from the Landsknecht Pike and Shotte range by Warlord Games. The Elephant is a plastic kit made by Victrix. The Stump Gun is made using bits and pieces from the AWI cannon set by Warlord Games. The cavalry is made up of 100 Years War cavalry by Perry Miniatures and some old Deaths Korp of Kreig by Games Workshop. Hope that helps 😃👍

      Cheers mate. Yeah I think the whole aesthetic does not appeal to some people but that's what I love about this hobby. You can still appreciate what other people are doing even if it's not something you play or are involved in 🙂

    What came first, Turnip28 or Sludge?

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  2 роки тому

      Hey Kelly, thanks for your question. I believe that Sludge was the first to be published as a full game but the Turnip28 concept and aesthetic has been around for a little while now 😀

    Does anyone have battle reports or how to play?

      Hey Justin, thanks for the commnent. I have had a look across UA-cam and I cannot find any videos like this. It would actually be really interesting to see a game being played. When I have my second Turnip28 army built and painted, this is definitely somethat I might do 😀

    What are you using for those roots?

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  2 роки тому +1

      For the roots I've been using standard basing tufts applied with glue. When these have been painted and washed it causes the tufts to become coarse and rigid which gives the effect of gnarled and twisted roots. Hope that helps 😀👍

      Love this! When I first sat down to work on the elephant, I was working out what I coul do to it to make it look mutated but also to keep it looking like an actual elephant. Removing the tail and replacing it with a Skaven tail was one of the first things I did and was amazed at just how natural it looked! 😀

    how did you do your mud please ?

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  9 місяців тому +1

      As a base for the mud, I use Vallejo Thick Mud. You can get different types but I tend to use the European Thick Mud. For the water, I use Vallejo Water Effect and drop this into recesses to create puddles. The good thing about Vallejo Water Effect is you can mix it with washes or drop a wash into it while it is still drying to make some dirtier or muddier looking puddles. Hope that helps 😃👍
