Informative video, my mechanic (I have been going to him for twenty years, a very skillful and honest man) recommended replacing the tensioner on my 2004, Mercury Grand Marquis recently. I took his advice but I didn't get a chance to ask him why since it appeared sound. When I picked up my car he showed me the tensioner and belt and it was obvious that the pulley had a lot of run-out and the belt had unnatural wear on both sides. Now the engine no longer chirps and I would swear that both the a/c and alternator work better.

The only problem with these new belts is that they hardly crack so customers will never change it because it looks good visually. I Had this the other day and they thought i was tryin to screw them Out of $50. I even got reamed out from my mangers! I told them I used my belt gauge and it was clearly worn out on depth of grooves I was told that tool was a waste of money!? Many still going by cracking belts not wearing in depths like a tire. This mentality wont go away for the next 10 yrs or more
