met the man in the netherlands after his concert he was still sweating and took his time fore a small conversation, this guy is breathing music. wow he still rocks!!!
I just found this concert, it’s just shit-hot, soo good. To think this is now 42/3 years ago, Jimmy I hope your op goes perfectly today. All the best to you & the boys RIP Steve Prestwich.
I have been in the audience at this concert in Markthalle Hamburg - it was in december 1982 and I'm grateful till today for had the chance seeing this fantastic band live.
THIS IS THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF CHISEL IN THEIR PRIME YEAR,,,,THIS CONCERT SURPASES The Later shows LAST STAND....AND SWINGSHIFT....Mosses guitaring in STAR HOTEL THEIR BEST SONG EVER IS PHENOMENAL
It's not even close to Swingshift imo. Swingshift is simply one of the greatest live albums ever released for my money and sadly the sound on this release really undersells the band. There's a lot of great Chisel gigs to choose from in the bootleg world, but in terms of capturing their sheer ferocity as a live band, the Los Angeles '81 show might be the best of the lot. They came out pissed off at the end of a frustrating tour and simply tore the roof off the joint. What a shame it was wasted on a roomful of Americans that didn't appreciate it!
@@ajo3085 Agree. I saw Chisel at The Dunedin Town Hall here in New Zealand on Saturday 24th September 1983 and what a gig it was. I never knew the band's final performances were going to be at the Sydney Entertainment Centre from 12 to 15 December 1983. I believe Swingshift is their best live album. Track #1 from Disc 2 'Knockin On Heaven's Door' a Bob Dylan cover is absolutely awesome. I also love 'The Barking Spiders Live: 1983' album. It was recorded during the final performances of their Last Stand tour in 1983, at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Track #3 off Side 2, another cover 'It's Only Make Believe' features Barnes' vocals at his best. Music magazine Rip It Up said, "Many of the songs included here are distinct improvements on the studio versions, particularly "Taipan" and "Bow River", which have grown in stature and are complemented by some excellent harmonica courtesy of David Blight.
Truly, you don't know what it is to understand/love Chisel unless you're an Aussie. Saw Chisel in Darwin in 1980 just at the start of the rainy season and it was totally unannounced in a pub. I remember the air was as thick as shit and then it poured rain and we all stood outside the pub cooling down. Went in with the palm fronds hanging from the ceiling waving some air on us as we dried out in 10 minutes. Kept drinking and someone came on the speaker and said to the packed pub "Welcome Cold Chisel." I just about shit myself. Chisel jammed for a couple hours playing everything plus Led Zeppelin. I think back and wonder if I was dreaming, was there tribute bands back then and we got punked? Or, did I imagine it all. Chisel was so huge then and were larger than life, really. Not to over dramatize, but you experienced things then, no one had a betamax video camera recording everything. So who knows, now I'm an old man and my kids think I'm full of it! Haha.... Obla di Obla da.... Hope they tour again.
I remember going to New Zealand to visit family and hears them. I was whoa!! Who the F is this?????? Huge huge fan ever since. The whole band is incredible, jimmy Barnes greatest voice ever in rock music
Barnes, out of his head. Singing like Lead singer of Chisel. FKN Brilliant! This is CHISEL! Playing harder and faster! Love Barnes but I have never seen him like this. Just Special, maybe it was the guys he was with? FKN brilliant!!
@@Nattiw72 me too 👉✅ first time i really heard of them was when one of my older brothers went to a gig they played in Canberra of all places 🤠 about 1980 or something..

Br4illiant song writer(s) (Don especially) Bass and Drums, do not get much better. Guitar, what does one say about Mossy? Barnes, or should I say Barnsey., been around and still kicking ass almost 40 years later. Individuals were wonderful, put the five of them together = 10fold the individual talent. Love CHISEL!
What a great band. I've loved Cold Chisel ever since I was a student in Melbourne in 1979. I had the pleasure of watching them when they performed at the Students Council at La Trobe Uni. The sound system was awful but as usual the band gave 110 percent, Barnes with his bottle of vodka in hand.
This is one of their best live performances and a great set list. Thanks for the upload, good to mix it up I’ve absolutely exhausted their live albums lol
Finest Pub Rock from australia with one of the most underrated rockvoices Jimi Barnes....................saw this concert and had to out to get me all available records, saw them than together on tour with Roger Chapman and the Shortlist...........no words for that
These guys were as Australian and of there time as I can think of. Musicianship, topical lyrics, cultural relevance, they had it all. Proud to say I lived in a Cold Chisel "bubble" as a teenager, but I was never able to see them live. Thanks so much for the uploads Casey Cooper, awesome stuff.
I know I'll get smashed for this, but Chisel were like Led Zeppelin in that everyone was a great musician. Most of them wrote songs, and not token ones either. I've been lucky enough to have met Don Walker and Barnesy several times over a beer or two. Still to meet Mossie, Australia's greatest rock guitarist, and yes, I have heard of AC/DC 🙄. Rock on guys 💯🎸

❤❤❤❤❤ Firstly thank you Casey for once again showcasing the whole concert for us to enjoy. I've been watching so much lately. The whole band is so good, and boy did they perform🎉🎉🎉 It has some of the best drums I've heard from Steve, Mossy's on fire as always on guitar (although I noticed that he did not sing as much as he had in other concerts). I was loving Phil's base and admired his back up vocals, and of course, Don on keys, what a legend! ....And of course that means I've left my favourite, Jimmy until last. For me this was one of the longest concerts I've seen posted by Chisel. Jimmy was great, pure class. If I could give him a hundred million likes I would. I haven't seen a lot of these songs live before. Especially Forever Now. This version is actually better than Chisel's official one which has sound issues..... And to top it off, this was the earliest I've seen Jimmy sing When Something is wrong with my baby. Does anyone know if they actually sang this regularly?
You have to admit these guys were just too Australian in every way to make it in any other part of the world, but they always put on a great show and rocked the house.
Great to see this video from all those years ago. They were at their best around this time, Barnsey could really belt it out. Loved it back then but all those lead guitar breaks are a bit much now. Pity they never got much of an international following back then. Barnsey's books are a great read, and what they are singing about makes a lot more sense if you know the back story.
World class band from go to whoa. Pity they broke up when they did, they were still very much at their best. Listening to their outtakes on Teenage Love gives you a fair idea of just how good they were, an unbelievable set of rejects.
Cold Chisel had a HUGE following in German! Pity America couldn't see what was right in front of them! Then again, if they did, there may have been no Circus Animals album.
1982 Bombay Rock in Melbourne, they can really Rock a crowd 20 people or 20000 same show and they could entertain the audience, don walkers lyrics, and thanks yanks, couldn't handle them taking over their live music scene. Chisel, Rose tattoo, the angels, INXS, Madison square gardens, absolutely Australian made
Great band, but not their best performance. the end of Bow River @ 23:16, all over the place. This is a much better show I think. ua-cam.com/video/DHZV1aawozc/v-deo.html
