Love this clip! El did his thing. A seriously talented composer, singer, and arranger, on this planet. He can play his ass off on keys. Singing and dancing is no easy feat as well as singing and playing an instrument. And you get a chance to see that Tommy DeBarge was a bonafide bass player. Word is he still does performance dates with 'Switch' from time to time when he's able to perform. Bless you brother. This family deserves much more credit than they get for bringing quality music to the masses.
I have always loved this song. I did my solo dance to this at my dance recital as a high school senior. When I think about how amazingly gifted this entire family is I can’t help but smile. Their music helped to create some of my best memories growing up.
This song & album (Gemini) did not get the publicity and recognition it deserved. This song was overshadowed by another "Real Love" by Jody Watley. This was a banger and he was totally old school - REAL singing & dancing.
a friend of mine who I graduated with Randy Walker is playing keyboards on this video for El Debarge he was working at Marshall Music Center in East Lansing an El Debarge came in to buy a keyboard and Randy knew how to program it in El Debarge got him in his band
Great story. The "young people" need to hear this kind of thing. "Being ready" when these "right place...right time" events happen, is a must have mentality. They are usually the beginning of a whole lot of great opportunities...you would have thought were just dreams :-)

If El hired your friend Randy, I don't even need to hear him play to know that he's good! Not Ableton or Pro-Tools "good"...he's "on-the-spot good" :-) I'm consulting on a hush-hush, next-generation music industry initiative that he might be able to get more global work through. @@bourgeoisbrats actually right now he lives in California and I think he has worked at Sony for about 20 years doing some sort of programming . It has probably been 20 years or more since he has played the keyboards professionally , but I'm sure he could still play all the stuff he used to be able to.. I'm friends with him on Facebook still but the political thing has got kind of weird , I have posted stuff that was Pro Trump and he definitely does not like Trump like a few of my friends I went to school with . We are still friends definitely forever but I think we are both a little disappointed with the others choice politically ...lol .. . But Randy is an awesome person and I love him like a brother I've known him since fifth grade ...
@@bourgeoisbrats politically I used to consider myself a Democrat I voted for Clinton two times and Barack Obama the first time I didn't vote in 2016 but I consider myself a part of the Walk Away movement because I don't like where the Democratic agenda is going. I looked on his Instagram and it has a picture of him and Janet Jackson from the Rhythm Nation Tour 1990 , so I think he did play some keyboards and program them for her on that tour. That must have been awesome for him , I'm definitely happy and proud for him, he really doesn't talk about it much and put it out there a lot of people who know him don't even know he used to play music professionally .
