nice. I need no discernible rolling shutter in electronic shutter mode. Without this, I won’t upgrade. I would rather stay at 45 MP. I don’t feel I need more than this. Also, I obviously want the latest and greatest AF features, no video record limits, and no or very little overheating. I would like to have two CFe card slots and NO SD slots at all.
The R5 Mark II needs the following in order for me to be remoteley interested: 1. Advanced flip out tilt screen like the Sony A7RV 2. Record time limit removal 3. C-LOG 2 4. Dual CF Express Type -B would be nice but not necessary Here are some things Canon could release that would also be nice if thy're paying attention to this post: - Inovate a wireless sync option between two or more camera bodies to match select user settings! - Buttons that light up for dark situations
@@JamesReaderI think they are working on an upgrade to the screen but I certainly hope that it is something like the A7RV screen. If Canon goes with a 60mp camera, then I hope it also has small and medium RAW options like both the A7RV and the Z7ii. Finally, I’d really like to see Canon take a page out of the LUMIX book and have the capability to download LUTS and use them in stills and video modes like the S5ii.
The thing is, that A7RV flip out screen has terrible image quality. The time limit will obviously be removed. Clog 2 is good but Clog 3 is also very good. James has videos here comparing to the S5 II and A7IV and the Clog3 on the R6 II keeps up nicely in dynamic range and is nicer to grade. Light up buttons would be nice but it's crazy you list these things to be "remotely interested" because no other camera out there really has these features as it is.
The A7RV screen is TERRIBLE image quality as are all the Sonys. The flipping ability is neat but the image quality is really mediocre at best. @@doogieham
I am not a Canon shooter, but the R5 is the only Canon I would shoot. Who knows if there will be a mark 2? Canon have not always followed through on cameras they said theyd release.
Latest rumours are saying April for R5 Mark II so not long to go now! I feel like the beautiful high res EVF of the R5 doesn’t get enough praise. Still one of the very best in the market in 2024!
You are going to get more dr for the MK2 at 16+ stops, the ibis will go to 8stops but the readout speed will hit 1 - 4ms which is really fast. It will have in-body cooling based on the patents. I am not sure about CLOG2 (I hope it will happen). I also hope the MP stays the same. The video will be oversampled 8k. Not sure what the oversample is and the low light will be amazing
I owned the Canon 1D Mark III for 12 years and it was a beast. When I sold it for $500 during the lockdowns, it was actually very sad to see it go. But I tried the Sony A7IV, Canon R5 and others... ended up getting the R6 Mark II and it's the best camera I've ever used. It was actually this channel that taught me that advertised resolution is mostly marketing hype. I downloaded all your files and uprezzed the R6 files (original R6) and there was almost no difference in detail... and when using ACR Enhance Upscale, the R6 files often looked sharper and more detailed. Then the R6 II was released with even better IQ and I got that and it's soooo good. The only thing I miss is the 4K 120 on the R5. I also like the screens on the R5 (love the top screen as all my Canons over the past 15 years have had top screens).
I’m really glad you’re still liking the R6 II. I would agree it’s the best all around camera I have ever used in terms of colours, AF, video quality and its hybrid abilities. I also prefer the smaller file sizes and resolution for things like weddings.
RThanks for your nice video as aways! I use R5 in combo with Capture One and Profoto flashes. I find this combo gives me very nice images for portraits, commercials and landscapes. It's reliable and the images look really good. I expose for the highlights in brutal contrasty scenarios and lift the shadows, very moldable. The IBIS for photos is impressive, being able to handheld shots where I had to have a tripod before. IBIS for video could be better I agree. It's a fantastic camera the best one I've ever had and I have had many and will keep mine for many years. I have the RF 24-105 f4.0 and that lens is very sharp and have a surprisingly good bokeh. It is as sharp as TSE 24 Mk2 at 24 mm, Sigma Art 35 and 50 mm.
R5 or R6ii? What are your thoughts? Im purely photo. Mostly landscapes and lifestyle, but sometimes wildlife The upscaling software seems to be awesome now too. So for the times you want to crop heavily you can always upscale. From videos I've seen it is hard to tell apart from an R5 shot. But still, im very tempted by the R5. Even though rhe R6ii has better colour and AF.
Good to have a long term overview of the R5. Interested that you have had such a rewarding time using the R5. I’m interested in what you were shooting with prior to the R5 - or prior to going mirrorless? Your experience with the R5 is significantly different from mine moving from 5D3 to R6. I’ve been unimpressed with the colours in particular. I shoot a lot of portraits and have gone back to the 5D3 for these as the colours are better and use the R6 for video and some location fashion shoots. Maybe the R5ii is a worthwhile upgrade!
Thank you Terry! I picked up my first camera in 2020 - the LUMIX GH5. From there I went full frame with the Lumix S1 and then bought the R5 on release and have been with Canon ever since. I’m not too surprised to hear you feel that way about the R6 especially compared to the older DSLRs. Have you had a chance to try the R6 II? I feel the colours are more similar to say the 5d MK IV for example and improved over the original R6.
@@JamesReader I've not looked at the R6 II as I expected it to be more of the same - disappointing colours and poor EVF. I've been with Canon since the first EOS film camera but I'm questioning my loyalty after the R6 along with the restrictive and expensive lens selection.
Just sold my R6 with a few lenses as I got a good deal. But now I'm cameraless for first time in 7 years. Can't decide if I should get R5 on a good sale price or wait until R5ii comes out and see what it brings. Ahhhhhhhh tough call!! Any thoughts? I just do photography
If the rumours are to be believed im not sure the R5 MKII will be a huge improvement in the photography realm. The original R5 is the best photo camera I’ve ever used, no matter how good the mark 2 is the original is still a really good buy.
@@JamesReader great point. I was just also thinking about resale value. But that's not really that important. Could put extra money into something else, like a lens. Thanks James. Appreciate your help. Your raw files have been invaluable too!!
I got my R6 for 1299 refurbished during camera week after the R6 MK II came out. I am hoping I can pick up an R5 for the same savings-to-cost ratio when the R5 MK II comes out.
What do you think about r6m2 af compared to a7m5 ai af? The problem with my canon r5 is when the subject becomes small in the frame r5 struggles to find the subject. Even I touch the subject in the lcd to get the af box the af is always on the background
In terms of pure performance the R6 MKII has the better AF over the R5. Harder to say over the A7MIV - both were so good for my use case it was hard to compare.
I feel 60ish MP is too much ngl. I used 5DS and 5DSR were okay back then and A7RIV which has 61MP last year, for few months, it's fun at first but for the long run, it's not but I guess for Canon it's nothing to lose, Canon automotive or beauty/high fashion photographers would love that camera for sure.
nice clickbaity title! you had me worried there for a minute! I can't wait for the R5 II to come out so I can buy a cheaper R5 as b-cam for my R5C :-) If Canon fixes the IBIS wobble and gives us clog2 with the mark II i might consider it over the mark i but I doubt that will happen (particularly clog2)
I'd say it's better for photography too as the files are cleaner and it shoots much faster. And as your files showed in comparison to the R6, upscaled R6 II files can look as good (or better) than the 45 MP R5 files, especially if you use a touch of AI in Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom (Enhance Upscale).
