That commentary took this to a whole other place! What a great hype man. No athletics competition would be dull with him on the mic. Bravo on Michael Johnson's world record and international appeal.
Mark Harding he did run 42,9s in relay where they were clearly going to win..and that means if they had serious conccurents he would certainly runs below 42,7s and that means that he was able of runing under 43s with no moving start.
What a great athlete and class act. I saw him run once in the US National Championships in Sacramento. He was about even with most of the field half way through the final turn.. and then he put his foot in the carbeurator and whish, he wa gone. I have never seen a 400 m runner even approach his finishing speed. Goose bumps all around.
So glad to see dearest Michael commenting once again on our UK screens (European Indoor Athletics) - love him to bits. Glad to see he has made a speedy recovery from the mini strike. God bless him and his loved ones. A true legend😘
Hes my hero, I strive to be a good track athlete like him, last year I ran a 1:16 in my 400m then by the end of the season it came down to a 58 second, also my 100m was a 12.91 on my first trial now it's usually in the 11's.
There are people commenting on this thread who have absolutely no idea how sport and indeed life evolves. Of course Johnson's record was going to be beaten one day. People saying that Wayde Van Niekerk was better should consider that they ran in different eras. In 1968 Lee Evans broke the world record. In 1988 Butch Reynolds lowered it, before Johnson took it down further in 1999. People disparaging Johnson in favour of Wayde should understand that one day Wayde's record will be broken as well !
In my country we have a saying. "It's hard to explain to people who don't understand". You understand! Records will be broken but you have to value the records in their context!

That's his average speed. He was running much faster than that on the front end of the race. No 400m runner can even split a race. If they do, then their first half was too slow for their capabilities.

You gotta love how the Japanese does the second by second announcing..They always put the heart and adrenaline into it, just as much as the runners..lol ..Love it..

Timmy O'Toole Usain Bolt has run plenty of 400's in his life. He trained hard for the 400 in the early and mid 2000's but it just wasn't his forte (If you consider mid-45's bad...) So regardless, you are simply incorrect in your baseless statement that he would've run a sub 43.18 had he "ever trained the 4". He did train for the 400, he never got close to the record. He stopped so he could focus on the 100 and 200 exclusively. Had he spent more time focusing on the 400, he would've sacrificed some of his top end speed in the 100 and 200.

Couldn't understand a word they were saying, and this was still the most exciting sports commentary I've ever heard.
Although his 200m and 400m world record have long been broken by other sprinters, Michael Johnson is always be my favourite sprinter.
Records are made to broken!! Bolts will go down in next years. The Knight kid is on a good path. Unless injury, he will be able to run for 8 years.
In addition to his phenomenal athleticism, I loved that Michael Johnson was confident without being cocky. Rare in athletes.
That's TRUE. He was a heck of a runner. His form was unique and he was just a strong, smart sprinter.
I absolutely LOVE the announcer!!

His head exploded from pressure build up unfortunately we will may never get an explanation

Seeing this race commentated in Japanese is something I didn’t know I needed in my life until now. Amazing.
Absolutely no idea what the commentator is saying but it's epic 😂

cant believe watching this that someone could have actually beaten him!! congrats Van Niekerk!

2 years from now and a better lane he might be the guy who sets the first 42.
Damn
All I heard was MICHAEL JOHN SAWN, MICHAEL JOHN SAWN! What a Legend!
The thing that amazes me is when they show him running at the 100M
and 200M mark, he looks like he is just running casually. His form was so good !!!
One does not simply run a 43.18
Rusty Daines ikr
Congratulations

no he ran the 9.58 in 100s

THE.MOST! I literally laughed out loud
I’m a track coach and my 8th grade runner just ran a 54 second 400. He’s gonna be an Olympic runner one day!!
This is the hardest discipline in whole track and filed world.. One who ran this, know what i say..
I'd think 800 meters with a competitive pacer is harder.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but here's a fun fact: MJ himself thinks the 800 is harder
He ran that race so fast, he would have lapped me.
WOW Michael Johnson was cruising at a 100 meter pace of 10.795 seconds and was cruising at a 200 meter pace of 21.59!!!!!
