What a great athlete and class act. I saw him run once in the US National Championships in Sacramento. He was about even with most of the field half way through the final turn.. and then he put his foot in the carbeurator and whish, he wa gone. I have never seen a 400 m runner even approach his finishing speed. Goose bumps all around.

I would say Van Niekerk looked very smooth throughout his whole race. He didnt have the quick steps at the end of the race like MJ did but he never lost his sprinting form.

Timmy O'Toole Usain Bolt has run plenty of 400's in his life. He trained hard for the 400 in the early and mid 2000's but it just wasn't his forte (If you consider mid-45's bad...) So regardless, you are simply incorrect in your baseless statement that he would've run a sub 43.18 had he "ever trained the 4". He did train for the 400, he never got close to the record. He stopped so he could focus on the 100 and 200 exclusively. Had he spent more time focusing on the 400, he would've sacrificed some of his top end speed in the 100 and 200.

I don't understand what this commentator says, but one thing is true that he's very excited with this world record.
His head exploded from pressure build up unfortunately we will may never get an explanation

This is the hardest discipline in whole track and filed world.. One who ran this, know what i say..
I'd think 800 meters with a competitive pacer is harder.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but here's a fun fact: MJ himself thinks the 800 is harder
cant believe watching this that someone could have actually beaten him!! congrats Van Niekerk!
To think he made it look so easy... 17 years later someone made it look hard and killed it.
I would say Van Niekerk looked very smooth throughout his whole race. He didnt have the quick steps at the end of the race like MJ did but he never lost his sprinting form.
(reminder that WVN can run 9 seconds in the 100, so the fact that he expanded his lead at the end of the race is all that more impressive)
