Comparing Trump to Hitler? Let me know when Trump exterminates his first million Jews or Muslims. It’s Biden who is supporting wars that are killing or maiming two hundred thousand Ukrainians, not to mention the drafted Russian young men, and the killing of tens of thousands of powerless Palestinians. China is probably the next country that he will fight when they try to take back Taiwan. Just like in Ukraine, where he says,we are helping Ukraine to remain free and Democratic, but most of the world believes he is there so that Ukraine can degrade the Russian army, and we can gather priceless intelligence information from the weapons and tactics that Russia uses and it is only several hundred thousand Ukrainians, who will die to help us with our intelligence gathering.

That's just garbage. Is it okay if Japan has both patriotism and nationalism? Or must Japan open up its borders so that, lets say, 20 million people from Africa who are destitute can have a better life? That's self preservation. It's healthy. The Left has a way of making healthy human impulses into something evil. Nationalism is not evil.
@@Miriam-me have you ever heard the saying anything can be dangerous in excess, because nationalism is that excess of ideological and cultural supremacy. Patriotism involves a healthy respect for a country’s structure and ideals, but it also understands that such administrative bodies and the correlating societal and cultural norms are not perfect and will need adjusting and fine-tuning as ages pass. Nationalism puts specific governmental, cultural, and ideological beliefs on a pedestal, claiming they are perfect and that [insert elites + minority groups] are the real reason why our society is flawed. Patriotism encourages rational thought and change, nationalism only encourages close-mindedness and gradually-increasing extremism (often via a quasi-mythologized version of the country’s history). If you live in America then you have experienced oppression; all we have here are gaslighters who say their oppression is better than others because the biased media makes people feel oppressed by things that don’t even exist. Having to identify as something to justify your problem is the fallacy that you are groomed to believe, use your insecurity as a strength and embrace it in your own individual, unique person not as the media or left try to announce that that’s the reason your special or oppressed, use it as a gauntlet that supports the other things you do, accomplishments and friends get stronger and make yourself the person you want to be!

You love hearing this because you're a real fascist and you can't stand the fact that we are taking back America from the deep state and the elite puppet masters.
Sadly, knowing about it will not stop it. There is but one way to stop Nazis and we witnessed that from June 1944 to May 1945. They go on about their 1776 moment. We need to vigilantly remind them that our 1945 moment occurs immediately afterward.
Chris Hedges became a paid spokesman for Russian state TV, RT. He's endorsed the People's Party, and their other endorsements are from people paid by Russia. Putin and his Shanghai Cooperation buddies are infiltrating from the right and left. Bannon's been quoted as saying, "Plant left, pivot right!"
Thank you, Robert, for this clarifying video. I have friends who refer to Trump as an authoritarian. I think doing so is based on the corporate media’s squeamishness in assigning the “f” word to Trump and his supporters. A large part of this denialism is also based on an entrenched insistence that America is exceptional, that we are a remarkable and strong people, that a Hitler could not flourish here. Ironically, this claim to exceptionalism is a fascist trait, which has always worried me in regard to Americans’ potential to eventually embrace it. And here we are with the most recent polls indicating a dead heat between Trump and Biden. Unbelievable, but perhaps an inevitable pivotal moment given the fascist fissures embedded in the American character.
Authoritarian mindset ( first identified in a 1947 study) is what makes facism possible. People with the authoritarian mindset conform to strong leaders. If the strong leader is democratic then they become Democratic. If the strong leader wants to be president for life, then they become in favor of presidents for life. About one-fourth of any population have the authoritarian mindset. I think most of them are clumped in the Republican party right now.

@@macmcleod1188 I understand and appreciate your points, but Mr. Reich dedicated this video to focusing on the distinctions between the authoritarian and fascist mindset. As a first generation American of German blood, this is everything we were warned to avoid and “never let happen again”. So to see it in this nation, the nation that triumphed over my bloodline’s nation, is in a word, frightening. Because it is what led to the downfall of Germany and into ruin for decades. Germany today of course is devoutly rebuilt in democracy having learnt their painful lesson. Please do not let the United States fall into the same trap of fascism.
Germans have accepted their past history and try to learn from it. Americans try to hide it and revise the history taught to kids. They hide the history of slavery and won't accept the truth about racism, sexism or homophobia. They can't accept that the nation hasn't always been right.

@@edmer68 Sounds like I might have enjoyed high school history in a class like that. Socialism in particular has so many definitions it is nearly useless as a descriptor. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism As it happens, Capitalism and socialism are not necessarily opposite or even rival; nothing prevents 'the people" from investing capital and producing goods thereby (capitalism). Communism is somewhat more defined; "commune" ism; everything held in common, which means nobody owns anything personally. The playbook for this is Thomas More's "Utopia" which sort of sounds appealing and equally terrifying. Of course it cannot work without forced labor; in capitalism labor is *compelled* by necessity but not usually forced. I was raised in a Christian household by conservative parents (I was homeschooled, attended church twice a week, etc). I remember watching my parents fall for Trump early on in his bid for the presidency. But I knew in my gut that he was not a good man, and I didn't understand how Christians could rationalize voting for someone like him. I have voted in 3 presidential elections. 2 of them I voted for Republicans. Now, after Trump, I am a registered Democrat. I don't know if I will ever vote for another Republican president ever again.
If you vote for a Democrat, that only means you were never a Republican to begin with. Even Trump with his big mouth is better than most Dems today who are moving the party to be socialist/Marxist/communist. There aren't many moderate Democrats left.
As a Christian outside of the US, I find it astounding that any Christian would see Christ’s teachings and commandments on love, being charitable, tolerant, and giving mercy and grace in any Conservative Party. They are all about blaming the victim, putting ME and MY and the individual first and telling people who are suffering to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, which is such a fallacy for the poor and indigent. Even MLK said, “It is a cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps”. The American evangelicals are a very strange and mostly disconcerting group who claim to follow Christ but seem to only have disdain for what He commanded.
@@ditzygypsy Totally false. You just want endless handouts to people who refuse to take any responsibility for their own lives. As an agnost I saw this development coming years ago. In general I dont have problems with religion, but I see a certain group of people who are drawn to (religious) direction, succumb more easily to a voice of their reasoning that holds power. This empowerment galvanizes to a point where self righteousness becomes a zealous endeavour. Their mindset then states: you're either with us or against us. The MAGA base vs the rest where moderate Republicans are called RINO's. Trumpism is a cult under a false flag of Christianity. I also feel that a lot of people had to suppress their *extreme* polical incorrectness for a long time and now feel vindicated in voicing them out loud. If they could seperate from the United States and live again as a Confederate, they probably would.
I was raised Christian and I left the church when I learned how hateful and vile 90% of them are to outsiders. If you aren't also a Christian, they treat you like a different thing entirely.

Anyway didn't mean to go on a rant/tangent but seriously felt a visceral wave of relief and hope seeing your comment and realizing there has been an increase of ppl saying similar. Thank you 💙🇺🇸
I long for the days of the “normal” conservative. We used to be able to talk and hang out and I really miss those days. These days, I’m instantly distrustful of most republicans I meet. The extreme right-wing and their god-king made it this way. Our lefty extremism was a direct response to their extremism, as they started it. I tried hipping people to Lawrence Britt’s 14 Defining Characteristics of Fascism back in 2015 when Orange started running. I knew what he was before most people saw it. But they saw this guy and were instantly blinded by his bullsh¡t charisma. Whatever spell he cast was a STRONG one..
For years I was Independent.... NEVER again will I vote right and I am now a proud Democrat. I always believed in moderation, meeting in the middle, and walking a mile in the others shoes. You can't do that with todays republicans. I don't know what they've become or how they got there....but they disgust me.
Another distinction is that authoritarian regimes generally want to keep people passive, while fascists aim at total mobilization under the leadership of their strongman leader. Which means that they constantly need to find new threats and enemies to mobilize their followers.
@@julietfischer5056 That's right. Were these people to achieve their aims, silencing or eradicating all their perceived antagonists, they would start turning upon each other, because all they know and understand is enmity and strife.

Not forgotten. A large portion of the Republican Party knows exactly what it wants and how to get it. They’re going to do it right this time and anyone who would look out of place on “Leave it to Beaver” is going to the camps.
It all starts with education. I’m sure our education system evades teaching these chapters in depth to adolescents. No good government wants integrity, reason, critical thinking skills in their citizens.
Good thing we are banning books in the library then. Cause nowhere in history has banning books not been for the betterment of its citizens. If it were bad for the citizens, I would have read it. It's funny, the play book changes slightly, but it's always the same moves. And the result is always the same, bad things.
I am not sure about this. In Germany we are tought a lot about fascism and the nazis in school but the AFD, a fascist party, is on the rise anyways. I think there are many reasons but one of the worst is the over representation of right wing and misogynist ideologies on short form social media.

No education on the subject is complete without reading _Imperialism, The Highest Stage of Capitalism_ by Lenin. On the very first page he predicts the rise of the Nazis and the "Santa-Clausification" of revolutionary figures like Martin Luther King Jr. It's very accessible stuff as far as theory goes, and it's truly eye-opening stuff for many, especially since it all seems even more vindicated by history from our perspective today

Back in the 90s, Ivana Trump, in a Vanity Fair interview, noted that the Donald kept a copy of Hitler's "My New Order" on his bedside table. The man doesn't read much (if at all), but it says a lot about him when he's a fan of Hitler's speeches! We knew about this more than 30 years ago ... and still a lot of people voted for him (and that's the frightening point!).
You know what's funny as I kid I remember Trump running for president for the Reform party in 2000 with the Reform party was mostly a Centre-left progressive party in which Pat Buchanan and David Duke tried to Co-op and I remember Trump calling both of them a "Racist and a Nazi" but I could be wrong I know Fascists like to call their political opponents Nazis and Racists like they are totally opposed to that.
Given that Trumps father was a Nazi, and I not mean he was leaning right, but he was ana ACTUAL Nazi. Trumps father was a actual member of Hitler's Nazi party and went to see Hitler's speeches. After Nazi's defeat in Germany he fleed to America with his family. Trump is a son of a Nazi, and apple does not fall far.
A spot-on presentation. Thank you again, Mr. Reich. I'm worried that the people who really need to see this aren't seeing it. This needs to be broadcast on Fox News everyday between now and the election.
Without the Fox Propaganda Network's 24/7 endorsement and support, distortions and omissions of truth, and expert ability to indoctrinate the weak minded and dumb, Trump would NEVER have managed to win. In fact, without the entire conservative propaganda machine, most of the worst Republican AND Democratic politicians our nation has been plagued with would never have been able to win their elections. The conservative propaganda machine is, without a doubt, the biggest threat to national security, the survival of our representative democracy, and our hopes of ever making meaningful progress on ANY of the biggest problems facing mankind. It's long past time that we finally begin taking the threat seriously...

If you remember the past then you’d remember that Fascism wasn’t the problem of the interwar years, it was the symptom. The problems are easily solvable, yet they remain unsolved as the world’s elite keeps moving further and further to the left, trying to destroy every last piece of western heritage. Hitler was right in that there was a problem, because there most definitely was major problems for Weimar Germany in the interwar years, and it very much looks like the USA Today (Hyperinflation, Radical Left-Wing Ideological Encroachment, National Humiliation, Political Chaos). Then again, Hitler was a visionary of his own ideology which had been influenced by his troubled youth and taught his racial hierarchy. Trump is far from Hitler: A successful businessman, thirty years older, never served in combat, wasn’t a very good politician, all of these things are the exact opposite of Hitler. Hitler was a failed artist, veteran WW1 soldier, Charismatic and Expert politician with a very big ideological agenda of his own.

Poster isn't trying to preach to a choir - more for those on the fence as to whether the definition of fascism applies to MAGA and its leadership. Could definitely describe them as "corrupt" and "opportunistic", though.
You forgot one. Fascists combine the corporate and state powers and run the country for the benefit of the corporate class. Remember, Mussolini said "Fascism should more accurately be called corporatism because it is the combination of state and corporate power". It's really important to.never lose sight of this aspect because it's not too hard to avoid being noticed by the government, but your boss is going to have an easy time keeping track of, and therefore controlling, you every day.
He was using term fascism wrongly to describe the Germany’s nazism. And more important, Hitler was just a representation of similar people, not the magician who tricked milions of people. Same with Trump. There will be no Trumpe without milions of small trumps voting for him.
Corporation in the fascist sense (which it copied from Catholic teaching) means corporations of professions - workers and bosses united in the same state-led units, e.g. Corporations. It has nothing to do with Big Business.
@@haps2019 You're kidding yourself if you think that has nothing to do with big business. If it's a society led by a strongman for the sake of consolidating society into a rigid, race and gender based hierarchy, then of course they're going to support said hierarchy in the sphere of economics too. Fascism in the economy translates into a rigid hierarchy with your boss having absolute authority and making decisions for himself at the expense of his workers. So yes, fascists will want to wield power in the same way as the corporate class and their interests align to the point where wealthy corporations will likely support fascism.

The 14 Characteristics of Fascism 1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic motto's, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. 2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc. 3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. 4. Supremacy of the Military Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized. 5. Rampant Sexism The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy. 6. Controlled Mass Media Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common. 7. Obsession with National Security Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses. 8. Religion and Government are Intertwined Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions. 9. Corporate Power is Protected The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. 10. Labor Power is Suppressed Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed . 11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts. 12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations. 13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders. 14. Fraudulent Elections Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections. This IS Trump if you can't see this you are blind or can't read

Having a label can help some people understand where they fit into society and find people with similar life experiences or beliefs
@smaaack Now that is a very concise and good counter to my opposing viewpoint. Instead of accepting his defeat, he went to court to have the results annulled on the basis of voter fraud claims. When Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election by over 7 million votes and 74 electors, he also refused to accept his loss and claimed voter fraud, bringing a litany of cases before courts in various states in an attempt to force the outcome of his presidency, despite no evidence ever being discovered to validate his claims and all of the cases being dismissed.
@@macmcleod1188 This one-fourth may also be related to "nurturing parent v. strict father" child rearing models
FYI - internal numbers show Trump losing among educated middle class women, blacks, independents..(sources include Gov Christie, etc)
What a gross video edit to make trump look fascist. At this time majority of us now see the democratic party as a whole to be the fascists! Trump 2024! A president for all legal Americans no matter what race! America first!
@@macmcleod1188 I understand and appreciate your points, but Mr. Reich dedicated this video to focusing on the distinctions between the authoritarian and fascist mindset. In doing so he drew a very bold and straight line to Trump and his supporters/enablers that identifies them as fascists, who are far more dangerous than authoritarians in the destructive ways they seize and wield power.
There are enough of us to vote, that see the danger, that I don't think he'll ever make office again.
He had his shot, and he blew it. He could definitely have done a worse job, but he also could have done a better job than the one which had _THE WORLD_ dancing in the street, like the Death Star blew up in orbit and took the Emperor with it, when he got fired.
I can forgive people for not noticing the difference, because this one is screaming in English at his rallies, but what I can't forgive are the people who want him to run this country, like one of his businesses, without realizing that the reason Trump *HIMSELF* claims success is running his business like a dictatorship.
The scary things is that unlike Germany, if America were to become fascist I dont really see how it could be defeated if it decided to start wars with its neighbors/enemies
I am 2nd generation German on both sides. A blind man can see what tRump & Rs are doing. My family will move idk where, maybe to Germany if things don't change for the better, that's it. Not going to spend my last cpl decades like the last 8 years.

@@edmer68 Sounds like I might have enjoyed high school history in a class like that. Socialism in particular has so many definitions it is nearly useless as a descriptor.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism
As it happens, Capitalism and socialism are not necessarily opposite or even rival; nothing prevents 'the people" from investing capital and producing goods thereby (capitalism).
People think of socialism/communism only in terms of Free Stuff For Me; not realizing that someone is making that Free Stuff and it might be YOU doing the making but not personally enjoying the fruit of your labor.

It seems that the more powerful a country becomes, the more corrupt it also becomes. The old saying "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely" seems more and more potent.
Conservative Christians do more privately for the poor than anyone on the left, because they help people themselves, where people on the left want the government to just give everyone everything for nothing in return, which isn't moral.

Another distinction is that authoritarian regimes generally want to keep people passive, while fascists aim at total mobilization under the leadership of their strongman leader. Which means that they constantly need to find new threats and enemies to mobilize their followers.

So yes, fascists will want to wield power in the same way as the corporate class and their interests align to the point where wealthy corporations will likely support fascism.
Thank you for clearly defining the difference of authoritarianism and fascism.
Only democrats practiced authoritarianism and fascism during covid.
Trump and republicans fought against it. Facts.

Fascism is a branch of socialism which are both authoritarian ideologies. Look at the communist/socialist states in this century. All are authoritarian dictator with leftist ideology. Fascism's logo was a bundle of sticks which is a reference to the collectivist mentality, furthermore mussolini was a devout Marxist socialist.

Of course. As soon as you throw someone in a bucket you hate - then you can stop all critical thinking. How pathetic
And so it begins.
How are we only just now asking this question?
I was saying this in 2016.
It is straight out of the fascist playbook.
Journalists as “the enemy of the people.”
The notion of the once great nation that needs to be saved or die.
The need to eliminate the enemy within to save the great nation.
Putting all hope into one great saviour.
You were by far the only one, mate.
MSM is not "journalism". It's state-influenced and largely state controlled. MSM is extremely left-wing. MSM should NOT be partisan, but they are. They don't report news anymore; they report partisan (often extrreme) opinions- left wing opinions. And that is why MSM is the enemy of the people. BTW, that includes fox news because they are right-wing. You literally cannot argue against this clear fact.

Let's not forget that originally Mussolini was going to call it corporatism instead of fascism.
With a bit of a different meaning though. If I do remember correctly, the "corporations" were along the lines of trade unions or something. They are not the same corporations we think of today. But the situation is a bit similar to the german one with the connections between top businessmen and the nazies.
@@A-A_P Mussolini instituted a National Council of Corporations which was stuffed with private business representatives and practically no trade unions. Ya gotta start somewhere. Unless you have some better suggestions,.. instead of just crying about others suggestions just like Repugnantcants Do.
The 14 Characteristics of Fascism
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic motto's, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are
flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases
because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of
prisoners, etc.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious
minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
4. Supremacy of the Military
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic
agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
5. Rampant Sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more
rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.
6. Controlled Mass Media
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or
sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
7. Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and
terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies
or actions.
9. Corporate Power is Protected
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually
beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
10. Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely
suppressed .
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other
academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even
forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use
governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and
even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
14. Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even
assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media.
Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
