    Well explained sir. Your videos are precious learning material considering the sparse learning sources in maritime navigation relatively to other fields like engineering. Thank you so much! Please have such video series on ship handling.

    Why compass bearing?why not gyro bearing in rule 7d(i)?

    • @aalokchandran5959
      @aalokchandran5959 5 років тому

      Th rule didn't say 'magnetic compass', it says just 'compass'.
      It includes Gyro compass

    sir, I have 2 questions regarding the "at all times" in rule 5.
    1. How come we are relieved from watckeeping in bridge while berthed at port? because, in practical life, it happened so many times that one ship is berthed but another ship has made collision with that ship while its own berthing. what regulations apply for port watch?
    2. ship not in port but in sts in open sea with a mother tanker. my radars are switched off as per her request. so, what kind of vessel am I in that condition and which rule applies for my collisions avoidance/lights and shapes/sound signals? will I be responsible too if another ship collide with me in this situation?

    Sir could you explain circumstances and conditions with reference

      What is the meaning of the term "conditions and circumstances" for eg engine breakdown is considered condition or circumstance

    • @thecaptainschannel7206
      @thecaptainschannel7206  5 років тому +5

      Conditions are internal and circumstances external. Engine breakdown is condition and rough weather is circumstance.
      However both these terms are loosely interchanged. People may say in rough weather conditions...............Or in circumstances if engine fails...........Etc.

    sir , I have a question to ask you sir , that as the rule says at all times . So, when the vessel is berthed , do we have to maintain lookout by sight and hearing ?? there still might be risk of collision even if we are berthed , isn't it sir . maybe due to the negligence of the other vessel . Will be waiting for your reply sir . please do reply . TIA

      Yes that is correct. There was a incidence in Mumbai port when a ship alongside was hiy by a ship berthing. The Q asked was when did OOW realise othership will hit him and what did u do after that. The blame was 80 20. I read this case in a book kept in LBS library.

      @@thecaptainschannel7206 but sir , why was the vessel that was berthed was being blamed for such collisions ? As even if he'll get to know that the other vessel will collide , own vessel is already incapable of taking any action to avoid collision . And meanwhile the berthed vessel will have no oow on the bridge even .

    • @comedygags6124
      @comedygags6124 2 роки тому

      @@thecaptainschannel7206 as while the other vessel is already in such confined waters , most probably the bridge watch level of that vessel will be 4 , that means even if we call them on vhf , they can't resist that collision maybe ... As they will already have master oow pilot lookout on the bridge

      @@comedygags6124 I have quoted a case study I read in the book. I can only say probably it has to do with awareness and alerting the other ship. Can discuss this when we meet.
