That was it Paul. Forgot what it was that kept him off the telly - budgets. You are so right though. This isn't crude drag but a subtly observed real person not a million miles from my own mum to be honest. Glasgow born, inveterate snob, awful driver who like to do a ton up on the M6. Her specialty was making no allowance for proceeding down a narrow street with cars parked on both sides maintaining 30 mph as you covered your eyes, or having her speed creep up and up until one would feel compelled to point out she was doing 60 in a 40 to which she would retort "Oh yes, silly me!" and then do the same thing a minute later.
@@TellyWatcher1997 Absolutely, brilliant is right! I saw it too....and I'd seen it all my life growing up in that area. The other was the "mm.. hmm" right at the end, so dead on.
TV Companies that allowed(or rather forced) Stanley to end his TV career were stupid and misguided. There is NOTHING half as funny on TV today.Sadly Stanley is now 92,so we won't see any new programmes from him.Surely there must be videos of his shows,or maybe they have been "wiped"?
I'd forgotten what an amazing comedy genius Mr Baxter was. True Gold
My all-time favourite Stanley Baxter vignette ... just brilliant!
“I’m only going the one way” brilliant 😂
Amazing. I just became aware of this comic genius. Loving every minute of his work!
Glad you found him
Love Stanley Baxter hilarious so funny comedy not the same anymore
Definitely the greatest entertainer on TV. Shame on the companies for refusing to finance him. Would stand out as fantastic amongst todays dross.

@@errcoche Great story about your mum Ed.
Not the greatest. Dick Emery he was not.
@@brianhurley3343 Yes, and Dick Emery isn't alive.
"Shall we have a go?", " I beg your pardon?" HAHAHA
Best Scottish comedian of our times.
Insanely underrated artist.
I couldnt agree with you more. The man is a genius.
Stanley's Kelvinside accent is spot on.
Hardly surprising, since he went to school half a mile from Kelvinside proper.
I love Stanley Baxter he's so funny. Why do we have to get old he was the best for sure!
Lovely memories of my childhood. Aye.
Camp. I loved his shows
Just hilarious
Sheer comedian genius ! Him and Rikki Fulton ! Ya canna beat them . Telly is boring without them.😢
rikki fulton hated Stanley jealousy as he stayed regional and Stan went network
Is that John Cater as the driving instructor? Remember him as Superintendent Waverley from 'The Abominable Dr Phibes (1971)
Very classy lady,,, beautiful 🌹🌹🌹❤️
Great acts. What ever happened to great TV.
Rosemary Gusher from Morningside, Edinburgh. One of Stanley's frequent and well loved characters.
Just like "The Fast Lady '😄👌
Love this, reminded me of The Fast Lady......
Always made a good woman loved it as the queen
Stanley Baxter knew how to walk and talk like a certain type of middle-class woman - and here we have the wonderful Kelvinside accent!
Did you notice the little skip he did on the way to the car? Just brilliant!
Hehe, yeah, farce & ridicule ladled on top of his own parody.

Why did they force him ? Etc
He still does The Stanley Baxter Playhouse on Radio 4 Extra, which is always a joy to listen to.
She should have learned to drive a normal car first before trying to drive one with the steering wheel on the wrong side.
You can see why no one would give him a gig, pure cringe, Dick Emery did the same thing but so much better.
Rubbish
