(1994) Powell Valley at Appalachia

The 7-2 Powell Valley Vikings travel to Riggs Stadium to take on the 8-1 Appalachia Bulldogs in arguably one of the greatest games ever played in Southwest Virginia.
Both teams would go on to win the Group A, Division 1 and Division 2 state championships, marking the second set of "twin titles" between the two perennial powerhouses located just a few miles apart. They also won twin titles in 1989 and 1997.
Appalachia and Powell Valley combined in 2011 to form the Union High School Bears. The Bears are coached by none other than Travis Turner, son of legendary Appalachia coach Tom Turner and Appalachia's starting quarterback from 1994 to 1997.
