    People forget that guys like Yao and Shaq used to be very mobile/agile when they were younger and skinnier but gradually put on more weight to compete against each other. But in today's league that's more pace oriented, those guys probably stay leaner and are still able to play at a faster pace.

      yeah Yao never had to do that lol. Shaq didnt put on weight to compete with anyone, did you watch him when he played for Dale Brown in LSU? You're just saying stuff to say stuff. Yao maybe coulda been the greatest ever same as Shaq. It didnt happen, careers went different, injuries, personalities. Shaq and Yao would both struggle to play defense in todays league. But im not sure the league would be what it is, if Shaq was in it. Yes he's a defensive liability, but he also could score 100 points every game if you don't stop him. Shaq is and was an anomoly and there's maybe 100 guys in the NBA books that had no business being there. They were there as guys who could foul and try to body Shaq. In todays game, no one could stop Shaq and Shaq couldn't stop most 4 or 5 guys. It would be interesting.

    Yao would still be very relevant because one of his greatest asset is his mid range and FT shooting which is 83% career. If he'll be playing in today's game, his training regiment and body build would be different to adapt to the modern style of play.

    • @JinghisKhan
      @JinghisKhan 2 роки тому +16

      They could also do stuff with him that not a lot of traditional centers could. Instead of putting him in the low post ALL the time, they could play him in the pick-and-roll at the elbow with a guard or a small forward and either get a free drive (if the center stayed on Yao) or get a high percentage jumper at the foul line with Yao shooting over someone a foot shorter than he was. His shooting touch was unprecedented for someone that big.

      Yao would definitely be shooting three's in today's game too. His game honestly translates really well into today's game and that hook shot of his would be unguardable given how small the game has gotten.

    • @ohdaUtube

      @@JinghisKhan naw, just dump it down to him. Wide open jumpers, layups/dunks inside, other team's depth gone with fouls trying to stop him, and wide open 3s at every as the defense would naturally HAVE to collapse into the paint automatically just to stop him. Who needs pick and roll when what you generate from that happens automatically on catch with one pass into the post?? Fast break, he's shooting threes as trailer. Center guarding him to defend, even if he gets there is 6 inches shorter than him. Yao literally has all day to set up, catch, roll the ball in his hands to line up with groove of the ball, and release. Lol.
      They'd have the number one offense in the league. Oh, and he passes the ball like jokic (maybe a little better), defends the paint much better (no layups/dunks for the other team). The other team needs to pray all their 3s go in cause that's all they're getting. Meanwhile Yahoo is making every shot cause no one is near him. No shaq/Duncan/Robinson in today's game? Forget it

      The archetype of the three point shooting big, with a post game, that could pass hadn't been invented yet. Most bigs of that 2000s era were expected to post up, and the unicorns of that era were big guys who could pick and pop for a 2 from the elbow. It is why he perfected the fadeaway that everyone says is Dirks or Kobe or MJ.. 1st it was a 7ft Wilt Chamberlains shot. The latest footage that has been worked on to make it HD is amazing. So ur first center gets two fouls n then the back up comes in and the back up needed to be the same size n talented or else n then u need a third. So now where u can have a center n two small ball centres who shoot 3s that’s not happening because u need 3 real centres. So ur not having all the wings that u want because Shaq is around. If Shaq played for these Celtics, Looney is fouled out n Deaymond guards him, who comes in for draymond because Shaq is also playing 40mpg

    I think realistically if Yao played in today’s game you’d be forced to run a zone with him on the defensive end. One because he will get abused in the pick and roll, he’s just too slow to guard the elite perimeter players of today. And two, his size and IQ would make him absolutely amazing for rebounds and interior defense. I don’t feel the need to mention what he would be bringing on the offensive side of the ball because I think everyone is well aware of how skilled Yao was for his size. Depending if the coach is an idiot or not they feed them the ball every trip down and 2 point the other team to death because the other team will not hit every 3 and will play small ball meaning you'll have a 6'6 center trying to stop a 7 foot 1 350 pound monster trust me if there were a couple of big men out there who were capable of playing half as dominant as shaq the league would revert back to what it was because you'd have teams looking for bigs just to throw at these particular bigs

    Im an old schooler nba fan from the 80's. Im a rockets fan also, people tend to forget though that the suns started the small ball while yao was playing and yao struggled with the fast pace, he would get tired by the first half. The suns dominated the rockets. Now the whole league is like that. Yao and shaq wouldnt have problems offensivly but they could not keep up with today's nba defensively. You got seven footers playing at the three point line, there is no post game anymore. Again the pace is too fast they would struggle keeping up. Now Hakeem would thrive into todays nba because of his freak quickness

    • @cwheric2009
      @cwheric2009 5 місяців тому

      Yes, what you said is correct. But you forgets why Yao struggled with the fast pace, it’s because of his weight. Why Yao gained so much weight? Because of the old style of basketball that you need to dominate in the paint against players like Shaq and Howard. Since you said you are old school rockets fan, remember how skinny and agile Yao was when he first entered the league? If he play and develop in today’s basketball environment, with his shooting ability, great vision and passing. What came in my mind is either Joker or Wemby type of player. And probably will have a longer career with lighter weight on his body.

      Part of what shortened Yao's career was that he was never able to get any proper rest. He literally played year round due to obligations with the Chinese National team, who were and are super trash without him. I remember watching a game between China and New Zealand, Yao scored like 40+ of China's 80 some points, and when he checked out with like a minute left and China up 10, New Zealand immediately scored 8 straight off a full court press, so Yao had to check back in and sink some free throws to ice the game lmfao. Dude was a one man show internationally. Like Yi Jianlian or Wang Zizi might have been his second best teammate 😂😂😂

    Shaq would be just as dominant in todays game. I actually don't think he'd be all that MORE dominant though, despite the advantagea playing in thisberanwouldngive him.
    Shaq's work ethic regarding professional basketball is the only thing that ever really stopped him. He was lazy and didn't work hard enough on staying NBA ready. He's said it himself.
    That wouldn't have changed regardless of what era he played in.
    It's just who he is.
    Shaq has always been more than a basketball player. Basketball os just what he did. It doesn't define him.
    That's what makes him so different than his peers and the many othr NBA greats.

    yao ming and shaq in todays NBA? cmon now, yao ming would play 20 minutes in 60 games in a season.
    shaq would foul out or have to perimiter guard since his matchup (KAT, EMBIID, JOKIC) shoots 40% from 3.
    then when shaq comes outside, hed get switched on with a shifty guard who goes inside and handles the business.

How it would've went is, Shaq would've gone to the line 20 times, Rudy would've fouled out, Shaq would've had 48pts, 18 rebounds and would've went 12/20 from free throws....Oh and Kobe would've had 36pts only cus he would've taken a backseat to feed the Big Fella all night and watch him DESTROY Rudy.
