Edward, now Duke of Edinburgh, had a TV show (I believe in the 1980s) called Edward on Edward. His view of his great-uncle and namesake couldn't be lower. He considers him to be a traitor.
His grandmother hated Wallis and Edward, the Queen wasn't a fan and she was only allowed back in the country when Edward died just once by the Queen Mum. So it's not a surprise that he was brought up to hate his uncle too.
This is because they considered that the Duke his brother's death was hastened by the stresses of becoming King when no one expected it, plus Edward made them pay through the nose for royal properties@@charliekezza
The royal family blamed him for the death of his brother. Queen Elizabeth II's father had lung cancer and was always stressed due to the war with the Nazis. He was shy and had a stutter. However, he knew his duty to his family and country and that's why the church and the government made sure Edward abdicated due to his Nazi allegiances and how easily manipulated he was. MI5 and MI6 knew the Nazis were friendly with Wallis and Wallis controlled Edward.
The parallel between Edward and Wallis/Harry and Meghan is hard to ignore. Of Wallis’s relationship with Jimmy Donahue, Marcus Anderson and Tyler Perry seem to be a “friendship” that doesn’t quite feel right. Harry was never to be king, thank God for small mercies, however a lot of his behaviour seems very similar to his great great uncle.
What I find interesting is something I had heard that Diana had supposedly said once regarding the boys and being King. Diana was said to stated that she wished Harry had been born first, as William was very shy and reserved. She felt that a life in the public eye wasnt for William, but that Harry would cope well with it. Now, if she did say this, its interesting how wrong a mother can be reading her own childrens personalities... though her death certainly would have played a major role in changing their perspectives.
You have to wonder at the genetic forces in the House of Windsor. There have been some no-so-great human beings amongst them - Edward Duke of Windsor, Prince Andrew, Harry. and that is only in living memory. Harry could have copped a double whammy because (excluding the current Earl Spencer) there are some nasty traits in previous generations of Spencer men too.
The way Perry presents his entrance into the whole story during the Netflix doc isn’t remotely believable. He claims he took a call from a woman he’d never met and opened his home (and private jet), to her because her claims about the RF sort of sounded like what his father did to his mother. I don’t believe it. He’s either extraordinarily gullible (unlikely for a billionaire film producer), or something else is going on. I’m for the something else.

His relative, the ginger dimwit has A D at 12. The D o W was definitely a Nazi sympathiser. He, allegedly, told about Allied plans for battles’ in France, to the Germans’. For that he should’ve been court-martialled for treason, & in a time of war, penalty was a death sentence. Another book Andrew LOWNIE has written is, ‘The Mountbattens’.………also well worth reading……

Read this very good book well worth a read, I was shocked at how Edward was happy to sell his country down the river just so hitler would install him and Wallis back on the throne fascinating story 🤬🤬
I cannot wait to read, "The Traitor King." I have studied David and Wallis over the years and the great "love story" was very much one sided and sad. I have always wondered if David fell for her so hard because she was the only one who treated him badly. Everyone else was such a yes man and kissed up. It must have been quite interesting to David to constantly have to "chase" the affections of Wallis. All the other young English roses were willing and sweet where Wallis was mean and distant. We, as humans, always want what we can't have.
The relationship was his way out of being King and she never wanted to marry him why she did? In my opinion she wasn't able to return to her husband. Edward and Wallace ended up lonely lives one only needs to look at pictures and read accounts of them by the way W at the end of her life all her famous jewelry stolen along with priceless antiques sadly money once again doesn't bring happiness.
I always felt like they had to marry and stay married because they, or perhaps just David felt he had to show the public 'look my love was genuine and my relationship lasting... I could have been king.' But certainly, although there was a time that she wanted to return to her husband she knew he wouldnt have her.
Edward threatened to commit suicide. Wallis didn’t want to divorce her husband at that time but felt she couldn’t avoid it. So she was manipulated into a marriage with Edward.
David wasn't very bright and was very immature. I think the government would have jumped at any chance to get rid of him. Wallis saved England from the horrible reign of Edward VIII.
I've never heard of this Jimmy Donahue before. Really enjoyed this video and thank goodness he abdicated. King George was more suited to the throne, albeit, reluctantly, he did his duty and did it well. I've always felt there were parallels between Harry and Edward and to an extent, the two couples. From what I've read and seen, Wallis didn't really love or want to marry Edward but he abdicated the throne for her, so much like Diana and the printed tea towels, it was too late. They seemed to have lived such superficial lives - much like H&M.
I read an article recently that before he died Edward's father...was that George V...was very disappointed and angry with him, and instead wanted Bertie, TQ's father to be king.
I have always thought that Edward was so nieve politically, that he took everyone and thing at face value. Just like Harry. Thank God they (the royal family) have brought in someone with intellectual and emotional maturity.
Great job reviewing "Traitor King." I read it last year but missed a few things you discussed. I do remember having a creepy feeling after reading the book. They were awful and pitiful at the same time. . Thank you the great video.
I watched a documentary about E& W . An elderly man was interviewed ,he was the son of close friends of W&E and wallis really believed she could be Queen up untill a few weeks before the abdication . Wallis said when the date for E's coronation ,she said to her friends this time next year i shall be crowned Queen 😊
I recall that my Mum used to say (I’m 80+) that the Queen Elizabeth, (George VI’s wife) absolutely loathed both ‘David’ as he was known and ‘that woman’ (Duchess of Windsor).
She loathed a lot of people. No one could have said it better than she herself when she stated: „I am not as nice as people think“. I have always trusted her on that.

I love your reviews. This one was spot on. Silly silly man sums him up
Great review! Another view of Edward can be found in "Little Gloria, Happy at Last", a biography of Gloria Vanderbilt by Barbara Goldsmith, which I read many years ago. He was dating Gloria's aunt Thelma. Thelma was finding "the little prince" boring, needy, and a hopeless lover. She begged her friend Wallis to take him off her hands and the rest is history.
I'll check it out!
I absolutely love your reviews...fascinating, and very Englishly weird and twisted.
Love that! 😂
Oh my. You need to start you own book club!! I saw this book and simply had no interest. After listening to your summary I’ve somehow gone and bought the darned thing!!! 😊
😂💕
You’ve been Vintaged 😂😂😂😂
Happened to me with Paul Burrell and jade pinkett Smith 😮
Ha ha!!! Yes, I’ve been vintaged😂
Shauna, have you read “The Woman Before Walls” by Bryn Turnbull? It’s another look at the Duke before Wallis. I enjoy all your book talks. Like others, I’m puzzled why you don’t have more followers. You rock!
Quality over quantity? 😂😂😂
I have read this book several times. About the Duke and his preferring married women.
I think that the reason he preferred to sleep with married women was because if a child was conceived, he could pass it off as the husband's child. In the end, he married Wallis who was infertile.

Giving up a king for a Queen!! 💀
Exactly!
Your reviews, particularly this one, are so much fun. I'm sure The Traitor King would be a good beach read, but I much prefer to just get the gist of it from your delightful video.
😊💗
You tell a great tale Shauna. ❤ The lives some people live eh! Glad mine is boring along side of theirs😂😂
Perhaps Harry is the reincarnation of King Edward.
😂
Please don’t disparage former King Edward…😵💫
It certainly feels like he’s heading down the same path. Harry’s mental health is only getting worse
Excellent talk! 'Petulant and silly man' - that sums him up.
What a Thriller! Excellent report!
You know, this was kind of a spooky storytelling for me. Your tone, as you brought your presentation to a close, made me gasp and I felt that if I looked over my shoulder to my bookcase, I would see thirteen photos of Wallis!!
😂💗
Thanks Shauna, really enjoyed hearing new revelations here. I also love how your bookshelf contains a moving feast of good reads. 😻👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it!
……loved this book! Bought my own copy, after reading Library one. Britain dodged a bullet when he abdicated. He was a very stupid man with arrested development at 14.
💯.
Great story! Certainly enlightening.
OMG Edward & Wallis sound like H&M indeed!
Those wacky Windsors! Now that would be a good mini series:)
Thank you for such an interesting review. I enjoy your videos so much. I learn a lot. Thank you. Also, I love your earrings and outfit. You always look so nice .
That’s lovely! Thanks 💗
Gorgeous old copy of Black Beauty. Love a browse along your book shelves!
It is a lovely one 😊💗
Another interesting video Shauna …. Thank you 😊
My pleasure 😊
Just a beautiful "indirect" comparison!!!
Having seen a small number of doco video's featuring old photos and videos of both Wallis and Edward, I simply am unable to wrap my head around the "thought" that any man could find Wallis Simpson physically attractive. I have no information about her personality or ability to maintain any interpersonal relationships, but physically Wallis is hardly an "IT" girl of her time.............
Hiya, Shauna 🌞
Fascinating book and fantastic “synopsis” of tantalizing bits 😃👍🏼
By the way, I’m trying to start a trend of referring to M as “This One’s wife”, “Tom’s younger daughter”, “Samantha’s Sister” etc…. I’m hoping that her name stops appearing in the media. That should cause her to stick up on those patches 😆
Personally like "this one's wife." I've also used "the Mrs."
"Walmart Wallis" is also fun and apropos of this video.
Henry's consort
Trevity-TrevTrev's ex-wife
... been a while since I've used that one, sorta cumbersome to type and my phone keeps wanting to correct me 😂
Fascinating! You read so well. I’m starting to see where H got most of his genes from. And M a reincarnation of Wallis.
Read this book recently. These people were wild!! Lol. Love your storytelling.
So good!
@@thevintageread he is working on a book about Prince Andrew, should be interesting.
This is next on my list. I'm currently finishing AL's Mountbattens book so now looking forward to starting this one. I love your reviews ❤
Wonderful!
I had alot of angry towards that woman.🤨 Than like a bolt of lightning 🌩 It occurred to me if it wasn't for that woman. We would have had a King that sympathized with N*zi!!! Could you imagine!?! 😱😱😱 So, I'm very grateful for That Woman. Funny how history happens. Will always call her That Woman though. 😉🤣😉 Take care and have fun!!! 😎😀😎
Yes indeed, can you imagine a world in which UK was ruled by a Nazi King? It doesnt bare thinking about.
Noel Coward said that there should be a statue of Wallis Simpson on every village green in the land in gratitude.
@@pollyparrot9447 lol, I like the idea of that
Read this very good book well worth a read, I was shocked at how Edward was happy to sell his country down the river just so hitler would install him and Wallis back on the throne fascinating story 🤬🤬
So glad wallis came in and took the thrown away from him. Brits might be speaking german otherwise.
So interesting and amusing, had no idea about these two. Great video!
We have this book ...so good !!
How facinating....mad bad and sad...what a life.....
That jewelry was allegedly found after her death. Insurance fraud?
I always felt like they had to marry and stay married because they, or perhaps just David felt he had to show the public 'look my love was genuine and my relationship lasting... I could have been king.' But certainly, although there was a time that she wanted to return to her husband she knew he wouldnt have her.
Edward threatened to commit suicide. Wallis didn’t want to divorce her husband at that time but felt she couldn’t avoid it. So she was manipulated into a marriage with Edward.
@@erinobrien8793 She had every opportunity to not marry. She chose to marry or be socially ostracized. That's a choice.
It's like Wallis and Edward were part of their life patterning blueprints.
David wasn't very bright and was very immature. I think the government would have jumped at any chance to get rid of him. Wallis saved England from the horrible reign of Edward VIII.
It sounds like history repeating itself with H and M it could be their story.
Fascinating stuff
I've never heard of this Jimmy Donahue before. Really enjoyed this video and thank goodness he abdicated. King George was more suited to the throne, albeit, reluctantly, he did his duty and did it well. I've always felt there were parallels between Harry and Edward and to an extent, the two couples. From what I've read and seen, Wallis didn't really love or want to marry Edward but he abdicated the throne for her, so much like Diana and the printed tea towels, it was too late. They seemed to have lived such superficial lives - much like H&M.
I’ve read the book and his resemblance to Harry is amazing.
Really interesting chat thankyou
Isn't it funny how history repeats itself!!! IE...harry & mm
The Windsor 's end of life was dreadful ..my grandparents had a house Bois de Boulogne very close to Villa Windsor
Great job reviewing "Traitor King." I read it last year but missed a few things you discussed. I do remember having a creepy feeling after reading the book. They were awful and pitiful at the same time. . Thank you the great video.
Thanks for sharing. Very interesting. 👍
Thanks for watching
I watched a documentary about E& W . An elderly man was interviewed ,he was the son of close friends of W&E and wallis really believed she could be Queen up untill a few weeks before the abdication . Wallis said when the date for E's coronation ,she said to her friends this time next year i shall be crowned Queen 😊
WOW, what a story. I did not know this side of theirs lives. That explain a lot. Thank you for the insight.
My pleasure!
Spot om again, Shauna!
