The Reverend Robert Jardine and his wife Maud spent most of the war years in Mexico, penniless. He was offered a church post in South Africa however they had to return to the UK to settle their affairs. He died in Bedford in March 1950 and is buried in an unmarked grave, apparently unknown even to his family. Pretty damn sad in my opinion 👍🇿🇦

Out of everything I've read about them you are the first I've heard that has talked about their connection with Scotty Bowers.. I was truly surprised that you mentioned it.
I don't understand why everyone has tried to make them sound as if all they were was sad lovers that the monerchy wouldn't allow to be together. I'm an American and am very happy the UK missed a bullet in not having Edward as king.

Yes, but to be fair, the inhabitants were Germans, dressed in reasonable uniforms, good health, good weight, pretending to be inhabitants. But yes, there were a tiny few escapes, there were a few Allied military put into the camps temporarily. There were a few who risked their lives to sneak out info. There was at least one person who went into the camp, to report on actual experience - but politicians across the board, did not want to know.
But the same can be said for the Burma railway and the at rocities of the Japanese. Men rarely escaped but did. They begged for help for those men. Nothing - and most of those who escaped were then treated as trouble makers.
      Truly appalling.

I'm in my 80's, and when i was young, my parents held the same view of Edward, and often mentioned his tour of South Wales Coal Mining Villages, during the 1926 National general strike. Reports claimed that he was apalled by the poverty, and stated that''Something must be done about this '' This remark was all over the Newspaper's the next day, and caused a political storm in Parliament. I’ve read a lot about her. There’s a lot that’s never mentioned but documented. Her first husband said divorce was his fault and she was the finest woman he knew. Also she was very close to her extended family. She took her Aunt on the famous Nahlins cruise. She met Edward through Thelma Furness but she met Thelma bc she was good friends with Thelma’s older sister from her California days. So she maintained relationships over long period of time. She’s been demonized and definitely not perfect but a woman of her time. Her uncle controlled het with money so of course she sought financial freedom. She was self absorbed for sure but so was he.

Anna Pasternak is embarrassingly besotted. She may have have found evidence she did not want to marry, but she was a vain, shallow woman, obsessed with clothes and jewels, freebies, and it appears she took on all the political views of the men she was with. Her whole morality bent for her own financial and marital interests.
As to being secretly, sadly in love with Ernest, still...
I think she told ALL her men they were her true love. She even told Herman's last wife he was her true love - but she said the same of at least 2 other men. I think she did that to encourage them all to protect her reputation and to feel that if she asked anything of them, they would agree.
An absolute user - but so foul, why would anyone care?

Their sad lives were of their own making. The Kenneth Harris interview included the question why didn't you get a job?
Not a bad question for two healthy well educated, childless people with opportunities most of us can only dream of.
Why didn't either one of them ever get a job??
She said she would have enjoyed a career in advertising. He said he would have enjoyed doing something, but nothing in particular..
With their connections they could have run a philanthropic foundation. Vogue magazine would have hired her in a heartbeat as a fashion editor, he could have pursued a career in journalism, television or radio.

My grandmother and Wallis Simpson had mutual acquaintances and Wallis was a woman of ill repute whom "nobody would want marrying into their family."
The interview Kenneth Harris did revealed both the Duke and Duchess to be devoid of intellect. The answers they gave to various questions were vacuous. They were talking, but they never said anything. I thought some of the answers were funny: what do you think of young people today "they're having a lot of fun," why didn't you have a job "I don't know," on the loneliness of the elderly "there's always a seat for an extra man at a dinner party"
on their experience in the Bahamas "the RAF gave me a silver box,"

Regarding your mockery of claims about Wallis's taste: If you look at home décor magazine articles from the 1930s & 40s, you'll see that the aesthetic preferences & fashions were very different from now, just as those 80 years in the future will be. Wallis was indeed considered to have fine taste, particularly in clothing, but also in jewelry, furnishings, food & refreshments at her (dinner) parties, the chefs she hired, even her selection of guests invited to a given event.
There is no way that her life could have been properly researched without coming across this information, so your comment shows ignorance of her times and small-minded meanness of spirit. It makes me believe your books are most likely salacious hatchet jobs, not the frank and revelatory but even-handed works most of us wish to read.

Nothing at all. Treason is not a light affair. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor were empty minded and unworthy of any note. Meghan and Harry have family, have not committed treason and are self sufficient.

I had seen the documentary based on the book on one of the history channels in the US. I had first read about the DOW back in 1972 and seen movies and documentaries like for example one starred Faye Dunaway as the DOW and another starring Edward Fox as the DOW. I wonder if Lady Furness the aunt of Gloria Vanderbilt regrets introducing Wallis to the POW? Also, back in 1948 when George VI got sick the DOW tried to get back on the thrown. He loved to reign but, won’t do the work.

You are so right! A lot of other books include some of these rumors (which this author based his entire book on) and state them as false, lies, untrue and just nasty gossip. It’s easy to scandalize and make money on dead people who haven’t got any relatives on their own alive to can defend them (and sue this author).

After listening to your vile interview on GB news I must say I began to doubt everything that come out of your mouth. I was shocked to hear how liberal you were with unchecked comments half-time truths and personal opinion. I think you should market your books as a work of fiction as you let yourself down the vile comments about Harry and Megan. Regardless of what anyone think, if your are marketing yourself as an historian you should stick to what you can prove.

The truth often bites, Norma. Your own remarks are not grounded in facts and in historical context. As for the Sussexes, they are irrelevant, with fathers on either side cruelly disabused. That one father is a king throws more shade on befuddled and vapid PH.
