Spent over a decade trying to figure out what was in my unmarked travel bottle that my art teacher filled back in 2008! (The sharpie or marker I used to write on the bottle had completely smudged off so it was a precious material I was so afraid to use that, I didn't really use it and just suffered with my paints drying out but it's overrrrr) When I saw that pour of the slow-dri fluid retarder, both arms shot up in the air as if I made a goal and I yelled, "I FOUND IT!!!! I ACTUALLY FOUND IT!!!" and woke up my dog. After periodical research for days about every other year or so, my mission is now complete. Fkn finally, if only I knew where to look but it happened today after I saw Liquitex's "slow-dri" randomly on the internet.
+savcob The Golden Open Acrylic Paints will allow you to work “wet on wet” in the similar manner that Bob Ross uses. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
I wonder if you could help me .I'm looking to find a way to make acrylic paints thicker so I can use them through a piping cone type thing in order to decorate things and have really fine detail...so you have any product suggestions for that at all?
Uzma Afzal You might wish to try Modeling Paste, which is thick like a frosting and has marble dust in it so that it retains its shape. If you want something clear, then a Super Heavy Gloss Gel would be best. Both products are available on our website at dickblick.com. If you would like additional assistance, please feel welcome to contact our Product Information team at 1-800-933-2542.
gio penn Yes, you can use either the Slow-Dri Blending Gel or the Slow-Dri Blending Fluid. Avoid those that are listed as retarders as you should not add more than 25% of those (otherwise, the paint film can be compromised). You could also use the Palette Wetting Spray on your surface as you work if you need to keep a specific area wet a little longer. Keep in mind though, it will loosen or make the paint wet so be careful using it or you might create runs. All items are available on our website at dickblick.com. For any additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
Anyone have a home made acrylic medium or has anyone used glycerin and water? I do a basic wet on wet just like with oils and need a lot to keep my paints workable. any help out there?
We do not recommend using home made acrylic mediums as they are not tested and may compromise the integrity of your work. A light spritz on your palette with a mixture of water and fluid retarder will also help keep your paints open and wet.
You are right about that. I made a huge mistake with an order for an extremely important first time client and Blick stepped in and saved my skin. If it were not for Blick I would have lost the job and the client. No other company would have gone out of their way like that to save me.

Is the middle color "brilliant purple"?
can i cover my canvas in the slo-dry gel and then paint into it? for example to create wet on wet techniques or in plein air.

Does blick sell to uk?
I tried acyrlics tonight...I tried one stroke painting and the paints seem to dry in about 5 minutes. Will deffo need some kind of drying retarder.
+7Earthsky Yes, the Slow-Dri Medium will definitely help. Also keep in mind that a more humid and cooler room willslow the drying time as well.
