I see everyone start diffusing from ends to roots but I was told many years ago that doing so dries out the mid shafts to ends so much which is bad. I was told it’s best to start diffusing from roots to ends because by time roots are dry then your mid shaft to ends(oldest hair) won’t need as much heat and time spent diffusing because most mid shafts to ends have air dried while diffusing the roots. So cool blasting is mainly needed on oldest parts of strands which is less damaging!

Maaaybe, but if you’re talking volume, ends-to-mid-shaft (I tried doing it that way before) sure does dry my hair quicker, like a lot quicker, but it looked droopy and flat! That’s my experience.

I'm so jealous!! My wash takes about 20 minutes by itself! Granted, I do wash and shave, but it's so my conditioner can sit. I plop while I get dressed, then it's time to go diffuse for...as long as it takes. I diffuse to 100% dry because I have the opposite problem as you--if I don't, I get frizz! I let it usually sit and cool for about 15 minutes. All in all, if I'm just washing, I plan an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and a half. I loved seeing this!!

Silly girl, I love you! Yes, I was getting ready to type a comment to ask how long to finish air-drying until you scrunch. I work in a professional setting, and I'm still insecure about embracing my natural 2A hair. On days when I'm going to see customers or upper management, I revert back to using heat (hot rollers, curling or flat iron) on my hair, and I want to completely break the cycle because it keeps setting me back. This was a very helpful video to get me past the phobia of how long this method takes to get ready in the morning for work.

Helpful for me! I just replaced my over 20yo dryer and got one with a diffuser. Now I’m off to do my wash, but in the shower. I can’t stay bent over for that long. I do, however, after washing my scalp well, let it sit for a minute or two while I wash my face. Then I condition before washing my body, making sure to comb it through. I just need to add in some extra “squish to condish” time before that. I’ll edit and let you know how it worked.

I’m in awe at how fast your hair routine is compared to mine 😭 I have to spend at least 15 minutes detangling (I both dry brush before I get in the shower and have to after my hair tangles from shampooing). If I have the effort to diffused I can hover diffuse AFTER plopping for 30 minutes and I usually give up after the 40 minute mark since there’s rarely any difference between how dry it is before and after.

I never thought much about tangles until seeing all of the discussion about tangles in CGM groups. If I make it more than 5 days before wash day, I will get some tangles right at the nape of my neck. But, once my hair gets wet, I can just go through them with my fingers pretty easily. It's weird how different hair can be from one person to the next.

Yes, the same. Mine takes 20 minutes only to wash my hair and condition. To save time I put my hair on a bun after I apply conditioner or hair mask and let it there to soften before detangling (which takes 5-10 minutes) while I am washing my body. If I didn't do it I would need 30 minutes. Then product application takes 5-10 minutes and need at least half an hour to diffuse. Having thick, coarse, long, curly hair is so exhausting.

Thank you for this.. I did hair for 15 years. So feels sooo funny to be looking up how to start doing my hair wavy 😂but!! I didn’t realize how wavy my hair is!! I honestly thought a lot of the wave I had for years, was due to coloring excessively for years and all the heat damage I did to it. Fast forward 6 years of now being a stay at home mom. And no color, no heat damage 98% of the time. And my hair is STILL frizzy and huge and poofy. And due to health issues, I can’t physically do my ‘usual’ routine of blow drying and straightening anymore. So been trying a million methods (not really. Probably like 5) to see what works for my hair. Seeing all the steps you take lets me have ‘aha’ moments of what worked in the past for me, and why* certain things aren’t working for my hair. Thank you 😊 trying this now.

My hair is wavy, but the texture is pretty rough underneath for some reason, and is always a tangled mess because of that, it seems. I haven’t found a conditioner that makes my hair soft and untangled easily and quickly! At least not like the days when I used to use silicones. Thats probably going to be the reason I’ll end up going back to them, after several years.

That is something I may try and adjust...

Thanks for sharing your hair wash routine. I actually let my hair air dry for a couple hours, then I diffuse for 20 mins.... its never 100% dry after I diffuse, but enough to scrunch out the crunch... I had my second deva cut 2 days ago and the stylist actually dries my hair from wet.... but my hair turned into a frizz ball within 30 mins after I left the salon... I don't think it was completely dry... Oh well, I might do a wash day tomorrow lol Love to try new products and techniques. Not found yet what works best fo rme, so always enjoy your videos. I would much prefer a wash and go type of wash day... but that won't happen with curly hair lol

Same girl, and it really is crazy the difference heat and speed makes. I tried to diffuse my hair on low heat, low speed, and 45 mins in my hair is still as wet as when I started. So I decided to listen to what I’ve heard on this channel and I can get to about 75% dry in 20 mins. Life changing!

It looked like you used both the Black Orchid and the Dyson diffuser during your diffusing. If so, why? Do you use them for different things? I am considering getting a Dyson but I love my Black Orchid and I'm not sure if I will like the Dyson diffuser.

This is pretty much the same routine I do but I've just started the curly girl method and I would normally do this every day 🙊 I haven't washed my hair in 4 days other than rinsed in water, applied conditioner and diffused with extra conditioner X

If I diffuse for 10-15 mins it takes 3-6 hours to dry even if I don’t use gel. Do you think a better blowdryer would help or does it have to do with my hair porosity?

Well you got me I thought it was over. Your curls are gorgeous and you were one of the first curlies I started following. I forgot without having to take a deep dive what is the density and porosity of your hair? I think mine are 2b and my porosity is low and density is I have no clue. LOL ;)

Out of curiosity, ever timed how long it takes to dry your hair using anything other than a Dyson? I keep reading how they dry hair faster than pretty much anything else. I'm thinking that's how you managed to diffuse in a bit over 10 minutes while it takes all of us much longer. I usually quit at around 20 minutes because of my wrists and shoulders and at that point it's maybe 80% or so dry.

Hey I've been searching for "aloe free" curly girl approved products and I came across a brand called Im bue from the UK, was wondering if you'd try that out in one of your wash days? I really love your videos and style of doing them, I also ADORE your curls (really hope mine can go back to looking like that) my hair was wavy ringlets when I was a teenager until I chemically straightened it (my bad) now it's fried from bleach in June and lots and lots of hair straightening with straightening irons - really trying to get it healthy again and I just LOVE your curls. I have wavy hair anywhere from 2b-3A I'd say but it's obviously a big huge mess now, hoping I can get my hair to grow out fast so I can continue on a clean slate lol

It takes me like 20 mins just to shower, then usually I plop for half hour. Diffusing actually goes pretty quick for me, maybe 10-15 mins, which is strange cause when I blow dry my hair straight it takes me 40+ mins. Then I let it air dry some and scrunch out the crunch. But my hair is a mess on day 2 so I either have to wear in a bun or start all over again.

I feel like the original Dyson is reducing your diffusing time. I heart you saying in previous videos that you diffused for 30 minutes.
Is that true or did you change your diffusing routine to a more efficient way? I noticed that diffusing is slightly different from your diffusing video.

Wondering, do you exclusively wash/apply product upside-down? My hair really doesn't like upside-down washes or product application, and always ends up settling in the weirdest way when I flip right side. I have to do everything standing and the results seem to differ dramatically than if I were able to do everything upside-down.

  • @zoecross8426

Hi, have you any advice... I love upside down styling but I have very fine hair that naturally clumps when I style upside down. Issue is, when I turn my head right side up, my hair (the little I have lol) is stuck to my head and it’s mess at the back. But upside down styling is great for curl clumps and definition but I get a messy bit at the back. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
