I have always enjoyed the ASUS Zenfone line -- and with the Zenfone 10, much of what made the previous phones so appealing returns. However, there are some choices made in the ASUS Zenfone 10 that keep it exactly where it was last year -- and that might be where some conflicting feelings come up. Is this still the best small phone? Let's see after week one with the ASUS Zenfone 10.

Zenfone 9 finished in third place in MHKBD's blind camera test with 22 million votes. Behind the pixels but well ahead of Samsung s23 ultra and iPhone 14 pro
that's zenfone 9
Where can i find it?
Trade my Pixel 7 for the zenphone 10 and I absolutely love it. It's like I have my pixel 5 again. Battery is amazing, the software is great, the camera is more than enough to take any photo you'll ever need and the performance is outstanding. Only downfall is only two years off OS updates. But 4 years of security patches are good enough.
Glad to hear that and thinking of doing the same. Was thinking about Pixel 8 but worried about Tensor again so I'm leaning towards the Zenfone 10.
I"l looking to replace my Pixel 5 right now hahahha this is a perfect comment for me to read
@@TheJoeOptionsame lol
lol I was thinking of doing that - I have a Pixel 7 atm
@@Imran_Pixel 8 is overpriced and has ridiculous features like best take that no one needs or will ever use - paying flagship prices for medium spec phone imo
If it ain't broke...
ZenFone 10, is an excellent compact phone. Especially love it when they gave you the options to pick between ZenUI and Stock Android.
Pixel 8 over it
It's not everyday you get a sponsor for an actual good set of earbuds lol.
Yeah although I'm starting to get worried about the Soundcore And they're absurd marketing budget. They must have huge margins of profits on their products because every UA-camr seems to have a paid gig from them today. I just worry they're going to overdue the marketing and get a reputation like raycon for putting way too much of the cost of these products into marketing on social media
@@michaelcorcoran8768they won’t it’s one of the best ear buds , speaker etc brand out there fr
I think 1 game changer will be the solid state batteries in a couple of years. These batteries will be able to give us much longer battery life and faster charging. This will enable small premium phones that will last a long time. Though the Zenfone 10 already has impressive battery life. But it will permit companies to put smaller batteries and give more space for other things like better cameras.
They've been saying that since forever.
I wouldn't mind a Zenfone 10 Lite edition with a 7-gen processor at a lower price. The rest of the hardware is fantastic.
Nah, they wouldn't dare.
Asus stop making mid range phones 4 years ago..
@@Kilgore2k12 was it the Max Pro M3? i use to have the M1, amazing phone for that price, camera was alright, and the battery is insanely big
@@herald1953 yup... I would have it but xiaomi is the only option for me for the past 4 years, 200-400 usd is the ideal price for mid range for me.
To this day i am still using my Zenfone 5, not a single scratch or glitch in the software, camera still wonderfull.
Same here, 5 th year of my zenfone 5
Ditto me too
this is one phone i will save to buy one day. i love its simplicity and size
Everyone going on about how 2 years of OS updates not being long enough.
Realistically, I think for most people it's fine though. I have been using the Asus ZenFone 6 ever since it came out in 2019 and during that time it did let me update to Android 11. Which still works perfectly well and will continue to be absolutely fine. Nowadays Android is so well built and supported that you don't need to update to the newest version, even *if* you want to keep for phone for longer than 2 years (which many people buying phones via a 24 month service provider don't do anyways).
Yes I use zenfone 2 before a big phone and I love the camera back then ❤
YEEEAAAAAHHHHHH 😎 5:18
Thanks fort another informative video ❤
Previously a Zenfone Go 5 Lite + Zenfone 3 user haha; sad they don't sell Zenphone anymore here in the Philippines
Watching on my ZenFone 9 :)
My mum still uses the Zenfone 5 up to this day and love it. It's still going strong albeit the reduced battery life. And every time I asked her to upgrade to a new one she says, "Kung hindi sira, bakit ipaltan iba?"
The battery of Asus are getting good, my Asus 6 I bought 3 years ago,at this time I have 4200mah of real battery I can get almost 8h screen of time easy. Is amazing 3 years later.
I had a Zenfone 4 back in 2018 lol. It was a great device but the cameras and lack of updates (they abandoned it on android 8) killed it for me
They will also kill this phone on Android 15 lol
Love your videos! My new fav UA-camr. Keep it going!
Quick question none tech related - your necklace, where is it from?
Great review, Joshua
The camera of the 10 is promising. I like how the video and pictures outcome.
Practicality is No.1 important to me and the ZEN phones do provide it. Might get one some day - but my S10 is still going strong and I have no need to change!
Great review again... a rare treat these days.
It looks like the blue is a little bit brighter this year, which I appreciate
Here I am watching on my soon 5 years old 5Z. Thinking of upgrading due to battery starting to degrade but very pleased with it otherwise.
The gimbal mode , OMG, no device is as stable as this !
I've used the ZenFone Max Pro m1, A very high quality for the price phone from 2018.
Still going strong, can bz updated to the latest Android with custom ROMs
I really want this phone, it has everyrhing I want and good enough camera. Time to upgrade from my pixel 3a
Now all I need is to wait for my paycheck 😂
i must say, Zenfone 10 is absolutely amazing! just bought one a week ago ❤
The iPhone design hasn't changed in generations yet everyone's on the Zenfone 10 design after just a generation
Right!
the best insight, especially for this phone in this review
thanks Joshua
I never used Zenfone because my Google Pixel 5 serves me bravely but if it dies and Google does not release a small flagship, I can consider Asus.
i just got the 5 as my replacement since my 4a5g broke. it was worth it.
I appreciate your focus of bringing the name of the phone into context. Ironically, one of the biggest physical features of the phone - the camera housing - seems to be home to the phone's weakest feautre: the cameras. Weird tension there... Anyway - I dig your review! Hope you find another piano to play.
What a beautiful work of art. I wonder how would it compare to iPhone 13 mini?❤😊
Thanks so much for this video. This is the best review i have seen of the zenfone 10 h still trying to decide between the s23 or the zenfone 10...
I just upgraded from the Zenfone 5Z, which for me was all-around a near perfect phone, just 5+ years old now.
Before that I had a 2 Laser which wasn't bad, but it deteriorated way too fast.
Well written review. Very articulate.
Its Joshua Vergara from Android Authority 😁i still remember this.
You need to pressure them for longer updates. 2 years just won't cut it.
Two in one review! Nicely done.. 😊
Cornelius Would Be Proud.🙌🏻
Any other smaller phone recommendations out there but with a more affordable price tag than the Zenfone? I miss my Pixel 4a!
I think this is the smallest modern phone you can buy. Just about any phone is significantly larger.
Will it be September before you can buy this in the US?
Nice review❤
Finally something I need...
What i would like to know about ASUS commitment to updates and overall support. I would love to own the ASUS Zenphone 8 and this new one but not until they prove themselves in the update area. Thoughts?
2 years OS, 4 years security.
@@TheChiraagGagreed - security patches > OS upgrades. As android is a mature OS, the OS upgrades or changes are more subtle in my opinion.
@@CerealforProteinThat's what I was trying to tell other users. But no one is able to accept the fact. Giving more OS upgrades which slow the phone in long term is worse than having just less OS upgrades with more security updates.
@@hp22126 we keep getting more horsepower on these SoC and OS "upgrades", yet year-over-year, they all basically feel the same, except the legacy devices. Performance on those tank and they get uncomfortably warm. Also, personal preference, but i prefer the Android 12 notification toggles over the larger Android 13 ones, so i wish i could roll back the version.
i am using zen 9 and so far everything is great, the only downside is the software support for only 2 years
i was thinking the same, but it does have 4 yrs of security updates though. and could you name a feature from android 13 that is a must have? or from the upcoming one that is such good that you wouldn't want to miss it? i sure can't... i actually had to look up what new features 13 came with, and seeing it just reinforces this idea.
5:18 LET ME TALK TO YA! YEAAAAAAH!
i am still using asus zenfone 2 laser for daily use now since 2016, want to upgrade to Z9 but the price still not going down even after almost one year after released in here
asus zenfone 11 on the way
The size is perfect. However, Asus only offers 2 years upgrade for os which makes me not interested anymore.
Sa zenfone 12 pa cguro aq mkakabili😅
XD today I got a payout from a Celsius lawsuit over false advertising. Do love the drink thoughm
I’m thinking of getting the Zenfone 10 or the Pixel 8. I don’t play games, I like the headphone jack. However, it’s only going to get one more software update and camera isn’t as good. Just wondering what is everyone’s thoughts between purchasing a zenphone 10 vs a Pixel 8?
Loving the usual Abroad in Japan cameo😊 great small phone vid.
Watching this on my Zenfone 7. Wish Asus still made the flippy dippy 📸 as an option. Great video 👍
I still wish they just officially called it the flippy dippy because of me
@@jvtechtea hahaha yes!
Does he have native call recording? It's very important for many people.... specially delivery guys.
Only lack of regular software and security updates put me off….LG used to be the same, look what happened to them.
Never had Zenfone, but want one because:
# small phone
# not Samsung, iPhone, Xiaomi, Huawei
# stock Android staight out of the box
# I need upgrade
Shame Nothing made bigger phone, Sony is a bit expensive for me.
So fingers crossed to get best Android experience with Asus
Hey, man. What case are you rocking in this video? I like it. Has an Asus logo but doesn't seem to be on the Asus site...
Sold. Can I use this in the states without any issues?
I personally feel like the gimbal is eating up so much space that couldve been used for bigger camera sensors and/or a telephoto, either Asus somehow figures out a smaller gimbal or they have to get rid of it entirely
If this phone came with a telephoto lens it would be the best Android phone on the market! Shame Asus isn't marketing this phone in the US
I’m 100% team iOS after leaving android 1 year ago. But this phone from a hardware perspective is right up my way.
Yuck.
So for someone who wants a compact phone and is fine with just security update, is the zenfone 9 still a good recommendation? Im thinking of upgrade from a pixel 4a5g, and i want a smaller phone and i don't want to spend a whole lot.
Was considering the pixel 8 or the zenfone 10, but i dont know if the additional price will be worth it.
8:00 but what about the Samsung Galaxy S23
Please make comparison video of zen 9 vs zen 10 for the camera.. 😁😁
Please make comparison vídeo of ZenFone 9 vs ZenFone 10 for the battery
Is it really worth it to upgrade from Zenfone 9 to Zenfone 10?
I've been using Zenfone 9 for about 4 months and it's an amazing feeling. But, looking on the Zenfone 10, it seems like the upgrade is too little, like wireless charging is the only one major update?
8 Gen 2, in my opinion still a small upgrade from the 8+ gen 1 that's already a performance monster.. so, is it worth it? I'm seriously asking
Nah, it is a slight upgrade in some areas but a downgrade in others lol no autofocus on the UW and front facing camera is a big miss for me
Wait for 3-4 years then buy new zenphone
@@wgyn6178 Omg, why? 😂
Why are you looking to buy a new phone just 4 months after you bought one?
It's hard to find alternative charging cable for Zenfone 10 that support Asus Hyper Charge. I've try to contact Anker, Aukey, Ugreen, Baseus, Uneed and Kiip. They're not sure if their cable is support Asus Hypercharge.
Anyone in here have same issu? Or anyone has find the alternative cable?
0:29 okay man chill out, you make it sound like they've been doing the same thing for 5 iterations now.
Heck, had they changed anymore you'd all be complaining how they've lost their USP that made the Zenfone spacial.
Unnecessary upgrades just for the sake of it so that you charge your customers more is a shit strategy. Just small improvements where it was missed last time, and big improvements where it was particularly bad. That should be the way to go.
Hope it arrives in PH
Question, is it worth upgrading from poco f4gt to a zenfone 10. I really love the small form factor, the ip rating, the colour choices especially the green and 8k video recording but is it worth it?
If you were upgrading from the iPhone se (2017), would you get the 10 or a (maybe lower price) 9? I heard that the 9 starts with Android 12 with 2 years of upgrades (at this point probably just around 15 months) and 2 years of security updates …. The 10 starting with Android 13 and 2 years of updates and four years of security…. The lack of focus in the wide angle and selfie cameras is kind of confusing but still probably better than something I’ve been using for 6 years now…
It's too expensive to not be just the perfect phone...to be zen!
Nice video
Just ordered one 16/512
watching this with my Zenfone 5, I thinks its time to upgrade?
How about the camera? Zenfone 9 had 60 fps front video rec while zefone 10 dont have. 🤔
I wonder why s23 isn't count as 'best small smartphone'. It has so much features other than smaller battery and headphone jack
The camera. For some reason, Samsung's cameras are getting worse every years. I sill have a Note 9 that kills the S22 Ultra. My Zenfone 9 also beats it by a mile.
Will the Zenfone 10 work in the us for t mobile? I hear different things about it.
Hi. Which all countries sell the Zenfone 10?
How was the battery compared to the previous 9
i miss small fones like nokia before
5:10 YEAHHHHH
is the camera better than Samsung s 22?
If they make the next one the size of an iPhone mini, or even smaller, I'm switching to android.
It's barely taller than the S23, but with a slightly smaller display.
It's less wide and has a much better battery.
For the $200 savings i think I'm going to pick up the 9. Can you tell me what color your 9 is?
It's starry blue.
isn't this phone the same size or even a little bigger than the s23
why use a dark wallpaper? who the thicker chin at the bottom? the front is ugly because of the uneven bezels
where did you buy this phone?
Name a single benefit of 4k selfie video?
Higher video quality? Is that not self explanatory?
Bro wtf are you serious it's like 8 times the amount of pixels it's way better lol
Imagine if it was Apple , they would say very positive stuffs about the same things they are pointing negative of this phone
OUR NEW REVOLUTIONARY PHONE.
Yeah I'm not sure about the camera, seen a ton of photo comparisons between this & Galaxy S23, and S23 somehow manages to look way more natural. Zenfone 10 is ultra over-sharpened and looks very unnatural when capturing landscape shots; it also gets skin-tones wrong quite often too. Pretty disappointed with the cameras, I was really looking forward to getting this instead of the S23.
Why is "natural" good? Most of the time, natural is boring.
Why you never say anything about battery 🔋 life in your reviews???
At 6:57 ?
@@keri589Not in detail. That doesn't say anything about idle drain, screen on time etc.
@@keri589 By the way, where are you from?
Why is zenfone not coming to Malaysia? 😢
how to deal with it's heating problem bro¿
The Base S23 is a much better deal than the Zenfone 10. many people don't seem to realise that with the thin bezels, the 6.1" S23 is the same size as the 5.9" Zenfone, and not only are the cameras FAR better on the S23 but theyre comparable to that of the iPhone 14 or even better when zooming
Also it's a joke Asus is only giving 2 years of OS updates for a 700$ phone!! meanwhile Samsung gives 4.
Plus the 9.5mm thickness for the phone size makes it look like a brick, sure it gets good battery life but its simply not as sleek or premium as the iPhone 14 / Galaxy S23 which already give you a full day worth of moderate to heavy battery usage
Hopefully they don't kill this form factor but release a say 6.4 inch midrangers. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is a really great chipset for what it offers.
8 gen +2
I’m listening (iPhone 12 mini)
Wait? Is it Ey-Sus or Ah-Sus? Im so confused since a kid
Stll not eSIM capable 😭
Damn, really. I like dual physical SIM but I am concerned the way the tech world is going we're moving away from it and at some point a phone with eSIM capability would be a necessity.
But only 2 years of android update 🤷🏽♂️
Bring back iphone mini 😁
