Of all the years listening to rock and metal, this is the first time I’ve heard this song. I can’t believe I’ve been missing this masterpiece. This song was obviously way ahead of its time. It thrashes but it grooves. My God.
Reminds me of many things at different points. The opening reminds me of Eye of the Beholder, parts of it make me think of Marty Friedman, Dio... just an all around good song!
Uli is amazing - this song shows how far ahead of his time he was - he's so precise on this track and shows his technical expertise - I've watched some live vids of him in recent years and his playing is just effortless - a true master. Going to see him later this summer - I can't wait.
Paul .. which episode did Rick mention this song? I just found him a few months ago. I have known this song since the 90s .. and it came out in 1977! I don't know if Rick mentioned it, but also check out 'Your Light,' also from the same album .. Uli Jon Roth is responsible for that perfection, too . . especially at the very end of the song!
@@johndutchman It was about the strangest solos ever. I guess this solo is pretty weird. He breaks them down. But I heard this and was like "Wow this is the Scorpions? I'll have to look into them a little deeper." I always thought of them as a sort of 80's band. Not hair metal exactly but something like that. But they're obviously deeper than that.
As a boomer it goes without saying how much I love classic rock. So many great bands arose in that era and unfortunately some pieces undeservedly forgotten. This piece is one of them or at least in my case. One of their masterful hits and I'm thinking to myself how did it slip my memory (no buck shots please). Uli KILLS that guitar!
Right??? I’ve heard this song just yesterday, and it’s a banger. Immediately the 90’s stoner rock movement, Kyuss and Josh Homme came to my mind. I don’t know if they were inspired by them back then, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
Love this song. It's very Rainbow! Uli Jon Roth is incredible guitarist. Funny how everyone's heard of Eric Fucking Clapton, but the very best guitarists in the world are relatively unknown.
Cool, I've finally decided. This is my favorite song. Been listening to Sails for 15 years and finally realized its the pinnacle for me. Thanks for sharing \m/
Lyrics: Dark night, there is no light In the realm of the black magic man Soul's flight into the cold blight Of the destroyer's magic land Poor man, whose spirits are stronger They're the ones who will reign You're struggles are in vain Blind man, you're suckin' your own blood Soon black magic's dying You'd better start crying Blind man, you're suckin' your own blood Soon black magic's dying You'd better start crying Throw out your evil desire The dark king's kingdom is Made out of mire Throw out your evil desire The dark king's kingdom is Made out of mire Keep on for the kingdom of light There is no darkness, there is no night
I've been listening to metal all my life and use to rock the scorpions and i've never heard of this masterpiece til now through a reel on facebook of all things... It was the intro solo clip live and man.. who is there guitarist for this one that solo in the intro had me replaying it over and over, saying to myself this is the scorpions? Really? Why and how have i never heard or come across until late 2024! Working on learning this one it's harder than it looks! Bravo
TheBfutgreg I listen to a ton of Rainbow and Dio these days and I must agree, I just caught this tune recently and I love this era of metal and rock. So much inspiration.
This song was obviously a blue print for the great Yngwie Malmsteen,UJ Roth was light years ahead of his time.A child of Hendrix taking the music in a new direction.Awesome song from the mighty Scorpions!
Only just discovered this in 2020. BLOWN AWAY.
UTTERLY BLOWN AWAY.
Welcome 🔥

I was a 2019 debutant. It’s crazy hey best kept secret ever
lexe defier merci 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😃
Most underrated lead guitarist of the 70's.
he was totally famous. Not underrated.
Woody Woodlstein but when you say “Jimi Hendrix” you know who that is, when you say “Uli Roth”, most wont know who that is.
No, think that would be Terry Kath.
MrGrampaMike Paul Kossoff for the win
Andy powell from wishbone ash is also criminally under rated imo

Today. I found this song today. I
Same with me, bro.
All songs of Uli Jon Roth era are great. Give it a try
You are in for lots of treats, there are a lot MORE like this! look through the Scorps discography....
i can feel this song has opened many influences , it sounds so ahead of its time
You are right. Malmsteen was a little kid at that time
I think megadeth’s chris poland guitar solo wakeup dead have this guitar solo influence/vibe a lot. Uli Jon Roth, what a maestro
Reminds me of kadavar!
@@Thrasher_Abbatoir that was dave mustaine but yah ur totally right
Yeah I listened to this song because Mustaine listed it as an influence
I can't believe I found this Godlike guitar intro so late in life. Such a shame. The continues riff gives me continues goosebumps \,,/
Better late than never on a RIFF like this!!!
Hahaha welcome aboard
Ha same. Loved the Scorps always but somehow never heard this one. Blew my mind 🤯
Better late than never
Ditto.
This is a gem of a metal song ❤❤❤
This reminds me so much of Megadeth except this was 1977! 1st time hearing this. This is so far ahead of its time. Mind blown.
Very “Wake up Dead”
@@DIRTKNAPFX yes! Exactly!

I'm ashamed to say the only thing I knew of the Scorpions was "Rock You Like a Hurricane" until today. Thanks Rick Beato.
How about Still Loving You? That's the famous duo, but Hurricane is definitely better known :P
Me too, and I was never a fan of that song. My dad showed me this song when I was a teenager and I think it fuckin slaps

one of the top 10 scorpions songs
My No1 scorp song ever....!!! For many reasons
Perhaps the best🤘
One of the top 11 songs
No it's the scorp song
One of my top 5 definitely!
Uli Roth is a Guitar God
In the 70s he was credited as "Ulrich Roth". It wasn't until later that he made it "Uli John"
Omg yes
'Your Light' ... same record ... holy cow, at the end . .they just START to get grooving!
Love Scorpions... This song makes me feel awesome.
YEAH!!! Rintoo awesome.
Hell yes! So much emotion in this song, love it.
You are awsome;)
Fucking killer tune and solo still blows my damn mind. All hail the king uli jon Roth.
How have I never heard this song before? This is killer!
Rick beato?
No the scorpions Sails of Cheron
truly an amazing song.... that intro lead , solo, just so cool and rare, a timeless gem.
Sometimes, I just listen to the solo over and over again, and then finally finish out the song!
@@voronOspherei made my own loop of the intro for gaming. It never gets boring and makes me focus really hard.
Been a scorpions fan for several years now. Only just come across this masterpiece. 🤘🤘🤘
Fuck this is banging! And 1977 to boot? Its like 10 years ahead of its time AT LEAST.

It's... Timeless.
The Scorpions had some of the best rock guitarists of all time.
Yep.
When Matthias comes in a distant third you know the bar has been set high. Very high.

This song is one year before Rainbow´s most similar song (Gates of Babylon), so you could say Rainbow sounds like Scorpions
@@Dinosaur761 it was recorded nearly at the same time (1977)
Word brother
First time i heard this song i thought it was Dio or Deep Purple or something. It's so different from the later songs.
Fantastic.
Ikr i heard this on grand turismo and i didn't even know it was scorpions
Kinda sounds like Rainbow imho
Cool, I've finally decided. This is my favorite song. Been listening to Sails for 15 years and finally realized its the pinnacle for me. Thanks for sharing \m/
I’m 58 and long time fan of the Scorpions and never heard this till now 🙌🏼🎸 my kinda sound being a fan of Dio and Ritchie (Rainbow)Blackmore 🩸

Also applies to Highway Star!
I remember listening to this song in Gran Turismo. It’s a great driving song.
I think I love you
You are a reasonable person ,sir. Very nice insights here!
One of the best scorpions tunes
Struttin' hard down the alley with this dark and funky jam. One of Scorpion's coolest grooves and solos.
Dark and heavy for the time this song was written! What a masterpiece!!!
Shredding before shredding was a thing!
Not a big fan of Scorpions, but damn... love this song! Coolest riffs and changing rythms
The guitar is crazy but the drums compliment it so well
Amo Scorpions. Klaus tem uma voz linda
¡Uli Jon Roth en la guitara tambein!
The most underrated song by the most underrated band
this sound is Awesome... glad i found it again... been millions of years.
Lyrics:
Dark night, there is no light
In the realm of the black magic man
Soul's flight into the cold blight
Of the destroyer's magic land
Poor man, whose spirits are stronger
They're the ones who will reign
You're struggles are in vain
Blind man, you're suckin' your own blood
Soon black magic's dying
You'd better start crying
Blind man, you're suckin' your own blood
Soon black magic's dying
You'd better start crying
Throw out your evil desire
The dark king's kingdom is
Made out of mire
Throw out your evil desire
The dark king's kingdom is
Made out of mire
Keep on for the kingdom of light
There is no darkness, there is no night
Dio?
Excellent message, too.
Song is aces.
Thank you
@@JamesNoBrakes ya, the lyrics do have a Dio vibe
Uli Jon Roth, absolute guitar hero...awesome!!!!
This sounds like it's recorded maybe 2 not freaking 38 years ago.
Mickey Akerfeels. Uli Roth was timeless as a guitarist
Mickey Akerfeels eh? i know, timeless leads here
Mickey Akerfeels haha I like the profile name!
please growl again man
That's because it's the 2015 remaster.
Always was such an underated track...pisses me off. This and In Trance are my fav's.
Having only heard you know which song on the radio I had no idea that this band could sound like this. Symphony X reminds me of this a lot.
This Guitar opening is a just a heavy armor column forging ahead unstoppable...❤
by far, the best shape of the song. neither malmsteen, nor testament reached up that level of intensity.. the original always rulezz !!!
Now your ships are burning is clearly based on this song.
Malmsteen totally gives him props. I found this song because of that. This is totally bad ass.
This song and U.J. Roth was obviously a huge influence on Yngwie Malmsteen, guitar playing is way ahead of it's time!
heard about it from someone else sunday finally remembered and played it damn!!!!!what a killer song.
If this song don't get you going nothing will
my mind exploded when i first listened it before25 years as a teenager.
OMG never heard this before 2020!

That long intro is an absolute tour de force of lead guitar playing. It honestly kinda pisses me off how overlooked this era of the band is
0:40 And then, Megadeth wan born!!!
The Ripper that’s so right, that lick could be on Rust In Peace, all those guys were influenced by Roth and Michael Schenker.
Definitely influenced the ending groove and solo in "wake Up Dead". I think this is Uli Jon Roth playing lead on this track.
I just listened to this for the 1st time because I was reading a Mustaine interview about his love of the scorpions and how this was his fav song
im nuts if dave wasnt subconciously thinking 0:20 while writing symphony
THE scorpion from megadeth. the same solo almost, incredible hahahaa
This is so savage i havent heard this shit in forever!
Music does not get any better than this.
I have lots of 70's Scorpions - Fly To The Rainbow, In Trance, Tokyo Tapes - but haven't heard this song until now. Good one!
Probably the most iconic guitar riffs and the most difficult solos to play in the rock music world…👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I'm here because Vito Bratta likes this song and it kicks ass.
One of Scorpion's best with Uli doing his thing, ripping it with a touch of the jazz standard Caravan melody in the intro...
This is a killer man!!! Perfect!
Damn good video, and my favourite Scorpions' song outside of Lonesome Crow
Personally don't like Lonesome Crow at all
