I have an idea for a crew system. So, the founder of the crew is called the "captain" and the other members are just normal crew mates obviously. The crew mates and captain can see each other on the map and can't kill each other. Cool would also be a system where you could recruit other smaller crews to be part of your crew and work for you so if they find a treasure, you automatically get like 10% of it as the captain
They could add a button by the mute button to add others to your crew, and they have to click it after you to join
That’s a good idea, but that should only work in the lobby’s because I think it’s super fun, jumping on other peoples boats, and just killing them
So literally just the SOT alliance system?

A simple (I think? I don't know coding, but this seems simple to me lol) idea for a crew system:
Whoever deploys a boat is by default the captain of that boat's crew, even if it's just a crew of one captain. The captain can accept A Number of people into their crew by fistbump/handshake/. Anyone can still board any boat for obvious pirate reasons, but when you leave through the portal only crew members of that boat will go through the portal with the boat; everyone else just falls in the water when the boat vanishes.
A note because I can't see a way to edit this: I think a captain should be able to recruit people to their crew both in the main hub island, as well as in the world at large; give the choice between making friend or foe on the high sea.
As someone that would love to make VR games I thank you for putting content out into this evergrowing community and even more for interacting with the community.
An idea for a crew system, alteration of a previous comment:
You can found a crew, as a captain and you can set it to public or friends/invite only - which means you can choose who can join.
A crew member can recruit other crew to mutiny against the captain, to which they must force them to walk the plank or drop them at an island with a one shot pistol (hehe)
More ideas:
Aswell as introducing the single player quests, add some new multiplayer dedicated quests where certain quests need certain amounts of crew are required to do it, for example bosses (kraken, megalodon)
Questions
Are you thinking of adding larger ships? A cool feature might be for larger ships is to be able to customise how they’re built, also being able to deploy rowboats by cranking a pulley etc
Another cool idea might be adding an official navy team, that occupies an area that might be npc or real players, they send out ships periodically to attack pirates which creates a marker on the map or nearby pirates to assist or etc, also it might add quests where pirates can go and attack navy ports and steal ships and loot
The game looks really good, im honestly really excited for how it’s going and where it’s going to go. Congrats.

I just saw this video and I was on the last ship on stream with you on the hunt for habie, it was a close fight with 2 insane crews, made a core memory of sail
I can think of a couple ideas for the crew system, since the portals are your way to get off of the main island, if the Captain (the dude that spawns the ship) invites you to the crew and you accept, you warp with the ship. If you don’t join the crew though, the ship vanishes and you drop into the water and have to swim back to shore.
Would incentivize players to hop on and try to join, but dip before reaching the portal so they have less of a swim back.
Alternatively, to keep unwanted scallywags off in the first place, if someone hasn’t received an invite to join the crew, they can’t interact with the boat at all. Trying to hop on leads to them phasing through it. Just a simple “is this person part of x crew? Yes = collision, no = no collision” :)
(I’m not a dev I have no idea how hard either idea is)

Hear me out, Make it so that the person who spawns the boat needs to hold a fistbump with you for 10 seconds in order to add them to a crew.
I think you should make a crew system where people outside of your crew can't really interact with things on the ship (except for the anchor). Also an alliance system, that would be cool too

The crew system can work like gripping the crew leaders hand to team up, and friendly fire between crewmates disables. If anyone sneakson your ship they will spawn on their own ship far from yours.
crew idea
When a player spawns a boat, they are the captain. The crew will be shown somewhere on the ship (maybe on the opposite side of the nameplate's pole?), with just their names (performance).
A player can be invited into a crew by a handshake (both players hold down the grip button when their hands are adjacent for a bit), and then the captain can set their job at the nameplates of the crew
You should make it to where if you are apart of a crew the crew members cant kill fellow crew members because I keep dieing from being betrayed

Maybe for the Crew thing you could do a name tag color or some kind of clan thing next to the name. Ex: [Sail]playername
A idea is like the captain can throw a boat but when someone tries to get in there is like a lock and you should make a pirate chat so you can tell the code to your friends

me and my friends were thinking about the crew system while fishing in game earlier and we thought maybe nobody accept people that you can choose through the menu like another button like the mute one can climb the ladder to get into the boat
also great game from you and your team me and my friend love going around looting, fishing, and just messing around

I have a couple ideas for this amazing game,
1. Whales, Orcas and Dolphins
Whales, Orcas and Dolphins can be found throughout the vast ocean, all can be killed for whale oil which sells for alot
Whales and Dolphins do not fight back however an aggravated Orca will fight back.
2. Sharks
Sharks can be killed for their teeth (which could make a shark tooth necklace somehow) and their fins, they attack you and your ship.
3. Some kind of Sea Serpent/Leviathan/Kraken Boss
This would make enemy ships team up to kill it, killing it would give huge rewards.
4. Crew system
The founder would be the captain and can kick or add people, the others would be regular crewmates which can leave at any time.
5. Larger map and more islands
Come on man this would be cool, the great beyond would be so fun to explore with your crew.
6. More fish to fish up
Eels, Octopuses, Anglerfish, Squids, Tuna, maybe even small Sharks.
I know theres already sharks in the game, but they could be remade to roam the ocean and attack ships, also orcas and dolphins will spawn in groups of 3-5, whales will spawn in groups of 2 - 4
I figured out how to swim from the get go

I think it would be cool if we could cut the rope to the sails to leave the ship and it’s crew stranded, kinda like how we cut the harpoon rope. And maybe cut off the flag and sell it. Also a big ship would be cool.
Every time i play single player I leave and lose all my progress please tell me how to save my progress please.
i just played for the first time, amazing game!!! i met a friendly player who gave me a full tutorial, amazing at how many features it already has.
The crew system should just be a way to search up there name and add them. And if there a part of there crew they can get on but if they are not the will be spawned back at the port if they try. And then allow other player to get on your ship when you enter into the portal.
Sail is definitely one of the best vr PvP games out there

Omg. I love the concept. But if you make this into a MODERN WARSHIP game- this could be EPIC. Different classes of REAL ships. Modern navy ships. Missiles, cannons, torpedoes. I mean obviously that require a ton of work, but no major studio has released such a game yet - other than Warthunder, which is technically a port I think.
It would be cool if you could buy decorations for the hideout/ home base part
I have an idea that when you are on the sea that the ship stops and the kraken attack and you need to cut off his all tentacles and you have a chance to get a cosmetic or eye of the kraken thats very valuable

You should make a crew were you all spawn together (because sometimes it doesn’t work) and you can’t kill anyone that is in your crew
Btw for the "crew" problem you could just make it so that when you spawn a ship a menu pops up or if you want it to be more fun a physical piece of paper that has the names of everyone and you can recruit them by just clicking on them and as long as that player is in a certain distance to you a notification appears in their peripheral vision so it is not annoying and the player who receives the invite could press a button to pop out a list of their invites and you can either accept or decline. Now if you want to invite someone while sailing i think that you could have the same "piece of paper" or just an area in your ship that you can go and open the same menu from before but again the players must be kind of close to you. If you do it like that just becareful of the distance that you allow players to send invites. Make it to close and it is annoying , make it to far and people are going to get spammed with notifications. Anyhow very cool game hope the best for you and your team. EDIT: Also i know that the look of the game keeps changing obviously but if you want to make the game look better try out deferent shaders because the game looks really bland. And i know that it has to run on quest but still you maybe want to try a cell shaded approach. But again i know that it is not the final product (if it is this is awkward) :)
I played this game with my friends and it's so fun
So I did have an idea for a crew system and it’s simple that the player who spawns the boat is the captain of said boat, and if someone wants to join the crew (weather by getting on the ship or clicking a button on said ship) it’s just send a prompt to the captain said “so and so wants to join your crew” and yes if your decent at the game the current crew system ruins pvp .

do a crew system of where the one that spawns the boat in is party lead and only those he hand shakes with then creates a party, those when the ship goes through the portal the crew are pulled onto the ship and those that are on the ship but not part of the crew get thrown back onto the island.

I first got my quest in 2021 and Sail VR Demo was one of the first things I tried, you, your team and your work are awesome I'm gonna redownload and get into it, PVE is more fun for me but i enjoy PVP too

I just picked this game up yesterday and I love it! But I have a very important question that I can't seem to find an answer to. I play on a Vive. There doesn't seem to be a jump button for me in this game. Is there something I'm missing? There's no button mapping, or really any controls list that I've seen.
For the crew thing you could have players send the ship owner requests to join the crew and the ship owner can deny their request

Make magical or cursed treasure that is a ton of money and spawns 5-10 skeletons or undead pirates every minute you have it on you
Great game. One suggestion I have is to add back the snap hand thing for item interaction as the current one with floating around around feel janky and buggy and can make the game feel less fun
This is a great game and insanely underrated The only problem right now is that other than PVP there isn't much else to do as far as pve which I'm sure will happen in the future but other than that the game has tons of potential and is very very fun
For crews you could make a menu which displays who is in your crew and make it public and private and it should let you invite anyone on the port to join your crew. Then if you aren't in someone's crew you can't go on thier boat and hit some sort of boundary.
For the crew thing you can make it so you can like invite people to it

Gata say this game is probably the best game ive played in a couple years. There's this very retro feeling about the game but with modern technology kinda like playing the baby of old school RS an sea of thieves im very much pvp but im more of an introvert pvp player so im usually running up mime robbing ppl an vanishing without a sound i dont wanna kill i just want to have a bunch of cool treasures in my chest an crabs. I wish i could sell individual items instead of having to look over my shoulder an quick throw it out an sell before it returns to my chest. I think the pistol should be worked on cuz right now with the reload i can shoot that thing like im scarface in his last shootout it just feels to unbalanced even if it is fun. One thing i beg to see is a bayonet rifle. Does slightly less ranged then the rifle an slightly less then the cutlass but you get the versatility of both to me that would be amazing!!! A man can dream 😔 its clear the devs really put love into this an i hope they dont get exhausted. Absolutely amazing game. Just wish my fellow pirates came up with more innovative ways of dealing with pvp
Crew system:
After playing the game, pretty extensively and understanding that you probably want to future proof the systems. As a fellow developer, I would suggest a few things.
1st: the way to join a crew that would probably work best would be to do a hi-five. This would allow a menu to pop up that would say join crew or cancel. Allowing the captain to then select them. Then once added to the crew, you can no longer, take damage or damage those numbers. And a crew emblem will appear next to their name. (this would also allow for when entering the portal for everyone to end up in the same server.)
2nd: the captain would have a menu where they can kick, there crew. This also can allow for a mutiny vote. Allowing crewmembers to kick their captain off the ship and designate a new captain as the one who started the vote the captain will not see this vote. But it must be 100% for it to take affect.
3rd: once part of a crew, all treasure collected will be divided evenly, except for the captain who would get an extra 10% as tradition. your portion of the treasure will be distributed to you upon return to port via portal. (if you die and return to port, your portion is forfeit. However, if you return to the seas and the ship is still there, you will start accruing any treasure from that point on, but with a 10% less Debuff for dying. (captain would be 30%.)
4th: treasure collection. When, collecting treasure on an islands it will be kept in your treasure chest until you return to the ship where you can add your chest to the ship bounty chest. (adding treasure to the ship, bounty will then add any buffs to that treasure incentivizing treasure to be accumulated collectively) adding 30% to any treasure added to ships bounty. Plus any buffs from individual crew.
5th: Crew class buffs, each crewmember can specialize. Specialized crew can purchase the skill at the starting point with in game gold only (no pay to win) The best categories for the game so far would be Captain, First mate, Navigator, Shipwright, Doctor, Powder monkey and Cabin boy. Each class breaks down as follows. (Captain and first mate cannot be purchased.)
Captain: controls who is on the crew, and adds a 3% treasure bonus for every specialized crewmember added to the ship.
First mate: will take over as captain if Captain is killed (this role can only be selected by captain) offers crew 10% movement bonus.
Navigator: when navigator is in crows nest, the ship gains 10% movement bonus as well as when, using the scope, they can designate waypoint that will be visible both on the map and to crew in game.
Shipwright: add a bonus canon hit to the ship. So if it takes 5 hits to sink, the ship with the shipwright now, take 6. (can be stacked multiple shipwrights each will add +1 to the ship)
Doctor: has two functions adds 30% health to all crewmembers so they can be healed up to 130% (this cannot be stacked) second can heal one player at a time up to 75% health (if health is above 75 will take no effect) to activate, must hold/use doctors bag next to injured.
Powder monkey: has a 20% range bonus on all canon fire. As well as randomly activated, dead shot ability where they can see where the cannonball will arc and land. (this is a chance ability.)
Cabin boy: all crewmembers who did not paid for a specialty with in game gold will start as a cabin boy. And will offer no buff.
When a specialty is chosen, each specialty will show up next to their name, the opposite side of their crew, mark. You can remove specialty at anytime, at the main port, but must rebuy any specialty when changing out. This adds more purpose for in game gold and offers more incentive for players to collect gold.
Feel free to use some or all suggestions as necessary. As I really just want to see the game improve as it’s already quite fun and has even more potential for future. Excellent work so far.
i think if you were able to click on ay person in the main area before you got out n sail click on them and have ay pop up saying inv to crew anyone who is not in your crew btu are on your boat and you go through the nether portal they don't come with sep for the ppl you inv to your crew.
Shark becomes a real npc and game becomes 5 stars.

Hey I’m having a problem with the game crashing whenever I’m with a group and I’m returning to the main island, and it gets rid of everything that I did beyond the portal such as all the loot I got. And if i do a skull boss it just wastes my coins because I don’t get it back I would like you to fix the problem 👍

I have an idea for the crew system. You should make it when you click your menu button. You can click on crew and it would show you everyone in your lobby and you can invite whoever you want to be your crew. And there should be a max limit of 4 and you should be able to kick people from your crew if they are being annoying or toxic 🏴☠️☠️🏴☠️
Will you ever put the single player mode in the basegame or are you keeping it separate
So I've noticed a glitch (on the quest 2) where sometimes I just cannot let go of something. I have to mash every button for it to let go, and I've also tried hitting them one at a time but it doesn't work.

I have one problem with the game, if i play with someone else his ship, and i have my own ship in my inventory and i die then i loze my ship, but i dint use it, because i was on someones else ship, and i couldnt store my ship in port.
