Crazy he did this at 17, insane
Nas with Illmatic at 20 as well, 🐐 things
@@pxrticlerl3945I thought Nas started writing Illmatic at 16
like im 17 rn and i cant even fathon writing shit like this, its fucking incredible honestly
Mobb Deep Prodigy was 19 when Shook Ones Part II was written too
He probably did it when he was 16 if it came out at 17
RIP steez, he had shown so much shine and i think he could have really been something special with a lot of impact on the game
He was my favorite rapper in high school. His passing hit me hard.
He was so special man bro could’ve been next to Kendrick’s level if he was still here imo
Capital Steez is the Derrick Rose of rap, if you understand what i mean
Biggest “What If”
He was what held Pro Era and the whole Beast Coast collective together. When he passed they all drifted from the sound and groups.
AKthaSavior makes drill now. Steez was too integral to the whole movement
1999, Acid Rap, Cilvia Demo, The Waters, that was a great era. A lot of style and rap skills on display in these four projects
Man good fuckin times indeed
🤘
wish I could go back, what a beautiful time!
love cilvia demo, my favorite album of all time
Also Better off Dead, Long Live A$AP
Joey and Steez were so special together man
I stand by Hardknock being my favourite hip hop song ever made. Ridiculous lyricism for a 17 year old..
Loved watching you two listen to this one. Classic mixtape
me too. that third verse is my favorite verse ever
Definitely a top 3 off the album
@@ryankoppel-1608frrr when he picks up speed it's absolutely 🔥
the con position bars crazy
Same for me! Joey’s hungriness and lyricism on this song make it one of the tracks that encapsulates the best the essence of what Hip hop trully is, on my opinion.
Joey is an underrated goat. Hasn’t sold out to the industry one bit
Idk man he did that one mountain dew song
@@oscarcarlsson5504BRO I FORGOT THAT EXISTED😭
Spent too much time with Puff though.
Joey’s one of my favorite rappers by far but come on, he does have that one song on his latest tape with Chris Brown that was garbage
idk about that when AAB sounds like his attempt at hitting commercial
This is definitely Joey's Illmatic. I can't believe he wrote hardknock at 17 years old, it even got props from Jay Z. This one brings back memories
It’s his best album. He meant as a good as illmatic. It definitely the most similar to that album of the 2010s in terms of quality
This tape was by my side all the way through high school, and it has left such vivid memories of those times that every time I listen to this I can’t help but reminisce.
This has such a special feel to it, and it’s so much fun as well. You really can’t ask for much more.
I’m sure many people feel the same way, that’s just what this type of music does
3000% dude! Not a lie in this comment💯🫡
So real i always get reminded of fall and the gloomy rain but its so calming
Amen brother, we are getting old now 😅
I was in 12th grade. What makes it special is he is my age and I discovered this by an accident. A friend of mine was mass downloading albums.
Really wish you guys caught that line on Daily Routine at 32:22 “traded in my Nikes for a new mic, I guess it’s safe to say he sold soul (sole) for his new life”
One of Joey’s best ever bars 🔥
Omg never picked up on the sole part
@@Miho51307later on he says “get their soles (souls) stole so often. Same idea
The comment I would’ve posted if you didn’t. He started to talk over it and I yelled haha
I'm all from south africa and I can't even wait to see joey badass live this guy is hip hop
This album just captures the essence of hip hop. Warm sampled beats and pure youth. Mfs we’re hungry and just spitting. It’s infectious
Joey is easily one of my favorite artists ever real happy u guys did this
lol same. That period of time brings back memories. great memories.
This is genuinely regarded as one of the greatest mixtapes of all time! I remember that I listened to this everyday for a year when this dropped.
1999, acid rap, and faces up there
1999 is my personal fav hip hop album of all time. Something about it is just so real and unfiltered just a kid and his friends venting about their lives and dreams. So so good
Massive W
AMERIKKAN COROPTIAN exists
Absolutely in love with this album. Just insane as a debut release.
It’s not even an album. Joey made it in his bedroom 😂
@@parkourkinsalehe clearly knows as he said debut release
@@thoonalia my point is still
Valid. It’s a mixtape not an album
Joey’a 2nd verse on Hardknock is arguably one of the best rap verses of all time.
why
This album blew my fucking mind when it dropped and continues to stay in my rotation to this day. Joey's nothing short of an incredible emcee, and his growth as an artist throughout the years has been a pleasure to tune in to
I really feel like this was the most relatable mix tape ever. All 90's babies could really feel every verse, from the school references to the friends. They really kilt this. Y'all gotta listen to "2000" soon.
i love the fact your dad really appreciated righteous minds, not only is it one of the best songs on that tape, but i think it comes across as very powerful because it's one of the few moments on the entire thing where he stops all puns, and that really sells the image of the hard life he faces.
such an amazing mix-tape, I wouldn't have ever known about it if it wasn't for an old great friend
RIP Ericka I hope you're comfy
Im so glad you did this record, please keep doing joey and listen to B4.DA.$$
^^^^
dude b4da$$ is fire as fuck some crazy songs on there but imo 1999>>>
This is my favorite hip hop album of all time so glad you guys reacted to it!
So glad you showed him this
It's beautiful to get to sit and bump this classic mixtape with y'all and watch another generation get into some Joey Steez and P.E! We out here vibin' to some absolute fire. Love how into the bars Kevin is getting 😂
I still remember the day I stumbled on him and heard Hardknock. Still one of the best hip hop songs of all time. That song made me a fan for life. Pennyroyal is amazing too. PRO ERA
I love that you covered this. I miss being a patron and hit some extremely hard times or else I still would be one ; but having this here helps me these days.
This album holds a special place in my heart. Arguably one of the best pieces of hip hop in the last century. Brings me back to my first car rolling swishers to third eye shit and all the other stuff we did when we were young. Insane for a 17 year old yet ironic it reminds me of when I was 17.
I would give anything to hear this album for the first time again, but it still hits the same after the countless times I've listened to it. Absolute classic.
I was in high school drowning out the noise playing this album in my headphones and it absolutely still hits the same til this day
The amount of nostalgia this album is giving me almost brings a tear to my eye 🥲
Cant see it coming down my eyes so I gotta make this song cry 😭
Holy man, this tape brings back so many memories, jammed this all the way through high school; was on repeat whenever me and the homies went out skating.
I have been waiting for this for more than a year! So glad it's finally here
Just got into this album last week and was disappointed you guys didn’t have a reaction to it. This came at a perfect time
I was obsessed with this mixtape when I was younger. One of the greatest Mixtapes ever.
So glad you guys finally did this! Been wanting it for ages and Kevin's thoughts on it - keep up the great work guys!
CLASSIC. Still sounds amazing today. I remember when this dropped and I was in 10th grade. Instantly became one of my favs
so happy you guys did this album. Top 3 albums of all time for me. Big love from Vancouver!
This mixtape is so amazing. Almost feel bad for Joey, imagine peaking at 17. Don’t get me wrong, he’s got some bangers after, but nothing tops this for me
Summer Knights and B4.Da.$$ are next level as well. I don't think he peaked at 1999, but he definitely topped out early in his career
All amerikkkan badass his best imo
This is such an L, b4.da.$$ and all amerikkkan badass are 100% better than 1999, I will say tho it was disappointing how 2000 showed very little artistic evolution since 1999.
Just like Nas with Illmatic peaking very early in his career
There’s a saying. “The wolf on the hill is not as hungry as the wolf climbing the hill”
my favorite project ever. thank u for this
This video reminds me of why i fell in love with this album and if it wasn't for this album I wouldn't have even bothered appreciating the old school hip hop scene. I'm gonna be listening to the full thing from start to finish with no skips for months to come. Easily one of the best tapes from the past decade
Damn finally someone reacts to this masterpiece and its you!!
our friend / fellow reaction youtuber Bob actually did 1999 recently, if you feel like watching another reaction ua-cam.com/video/ANoyX1lkDDQ/v-deo.htmlsi=BIJuhVGVFFtaIVDm
@@turningthetablesRight haven't watched much from him yet though, I have his reaction to Piñata in sight. By the way will you react to more of Madlib and some projects from The Alchemist?
This is absolutely one of my favorite rap albums/tapes of all time. Glad you guys are covering it.
I remember when this first dropped back in my 10th grade year! Time flies dude
Life changing first project from Joey Bada$$! Crazy he was 16-17 when we wrote this. His discography only gets better and better. Summer Knights, B4Da$$, All Amerikkkan Badass and 2000.
I listened to this, all amerikkan badass, and 2000 for the first time on Tuesday and wow I was so amazed by how I never listened to him before 😮😅
Still haven’t listened to summer knights or B4Da$ yet though
@@steezylingling ahh my guy those hold such a special place in my heart man it’s pure hiphop. Definitely give them a listen Summer Knights is one of the best mixtapes of all time. B4da$$ is his first studio album under a label. It is truly amazing to witness the growth you are gonna love both projects 🔥
Loved this, need more fr
been waiting for this one for a while thanks guys
One of the best! Just copped this on vinyl, sounds so good
Awesome video! We need a reaction to Summer Knights now!! 🔥
Finally! I had been waiting for this for months!
This is video I needed
Finally, one of my personal favourites and it's great to see Kevin react to joey badass truly one of a kind
Joey Bada$$ is defintley my comfort artist. His flow and tone just go so well together.
Waves is insane. It gives me chills every single time.
YES IVE BEEB WAITING FOR THIS
You talking about joeys freestyle over the crowd was great, I was there in Edinburgh and it’s funny to see the two of you talking about something I experienced after watching you for a while now. This is one of the best debut projects of all time imo
omg guys you really reacted to this project! I love yall
Crazy timing. I just started listening to this album for the first time yesterday.
When I first listened to this I instantly fell in luv with and still love it. Album always puts a smile on my face whenever it comes on in my playlist. One of my favorite mixtapes of all time
Mad respect for this react.
One of the greatest tapes EVER hands-down. Been bumping it for over 6 years and I still find new bars every time 🤧 been waiting on the reaction for a while
Been waiting on this one 🫶
Wow I was literally thinking yesterday if you'd ever dive into this album, one of my favorites
Watching these videos make me rethink the music, love the stuff
I remember memorizing all the lyrics to hardknock and waves in my car instead of going to my 11th grade classes. Man this album is great.
ohhhh I been waiting for this 🥹🥹🥹
I’ve been waiting for this
Been waiting for this one
My friend showed me Joey Badass years ago. I remember hearing this album for the first time and being in complete aw. This man is truly the GOAT and you reactions were perfect

I've been waiting for this reaction
Can’t wait to watch this one, time to get some snacks and relax after work
Been waiting for this video forever, we made it🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
My favourite mixtape of all time.
I have never heard this album before, but as a 90's hip hop head it gave me nostalgia. Love it. Great video as always
One of my favorite projects of all time! I definitely get why people compare it to Illmatic, since Joey was equally as old as Nas when he wrote it. You also have a combination of mostly laid back, jazzy type beats and great lyricism but hard tracks like Hardknock or Survival Tacticts as well, on which you can really hear Joey's hunger and passion, similar to Nas' on NY State of Mind for instance. It may not be nearly as influential as Illmatic has been on the culture but especially for my generation this tape holds a special place in a lot of our hearts.
absolutely love this mixtape
Was about time, good stuff
Been waiting so long for this one. Long Live Steelo 🕊🙏
It’s so cool watching someone’s brand new reaction to some of my favorite projects. As someone who’s dad was also in the music industry, your guy’s content is so enjoyable.
Also, have your dad react to more Denzel Curry and/or Run The Jewels!
I was just hoping you guys would cover this album
Incredible
dope shirt from pops. classic tape here and glad yall got to peep this one, exceptional as always
Finally, one of the best albums I heard
Crazy he did this at that age like if you compare it to todays new rappers, Joey was on a whole other level
This album has been growing the most on me, it is just straight up fire!
So glad you did Joey, listening this man everyday since 1/2y felt all you said, keep going guys
One of my favorite projects ever! Brings me back to freshman year of highschool
Yessss I’ve been waiting for theseeee
this album/mixtape was the soundtrack of my middle school years leading into high school… timeless music! 🔥
As you can see by my pfp im a hugee PRO ERA fan!! rip steez, love that you and ur dad are so culturally in tune with hip hop music Joey is my favorite artist of all time you should do his AABA album next! im sure your pops would love the music and topics

Its always cool to see connor knowing so much about all these different artists, not only kevin is learning new things in these videos^^
one of my all time favorite albums
Sweet vid, love listening to these and finding songs I like on albums I thought that I knew pretty well
You guys should do alone at prom. Your dad would love it because it’s classic 80s songs. Love the videos keep up the good work.❤️❤️❤️
Had this album on repeat for years , definitely a rap essential
waves is such a good song... chill beat as he talks about his hustle quick snappy lines, "wont stop til i meet hova and my momma is in a rova"
One of my favorites of all time
One of my favorite mixtapes/albums so stocked about the reaction
phenomenal album with such a unique sound. A mix of old and new, and i love it. rip steez
Kevin’s ability to catch punchlines is underrated 😂 he caught some I didn’t even catch on first listen lol
