- As with any portion of the trout season, it’s important to understand how lakes work so you can make educated assumptions as to where trout might be and why. Knowing this helps you put yourself in the right place and use the correct tactics and flies for the available food sources.
Join fellow stillwater addict, good friend, fisheries biologist, author, fly designer, business partner (Stillwater Fly Fishing Store) and TV Host with Sports Fishing on the Fly, Brian Chan and me as we discuss early season stillwater tactics.

Thanks,
I am pleased to hear you enjoyed our live event.
Cheers, Phil
Thank You Phil and Brian. Always enjoy your videos. Lots of info to glean from.
Always great to see you both, and enjoy your videos very much! So much great information to absorb. It's helped me over the years to become more successful with my fly fishing. Thank you!
Thanks for doing this. could this also be a podcast?
Thanks. I am glad you enjoyed it. I do plan on doing a Littoral Zone podcast episode on it in the near future.
Front facing live sonar is possibly stressing bass in bass tournaments. I read an article a team won a tournament by turning their sonar off. Its making fishing to easy/ less sporting like trail cameras and range finders. Technology is getting ridiculous, bass boats over $100,000 🤯
I like keeping it old school. A guided bass trip on a TX lake is $750 😂
Lake chemistry is
something I believe
most
fly
fishers don’t pay attention to .
Some great info here well worth
listening to.
