It's true. EA totally effed up Star Wars games for fans the moment they got the license. If they hadn't gotten the license, imagine how many games would've come out by now.

The biggest reason for this is because of the exclusivity deal. Under EA there was only 2 good star wars games and one of those wasn't good at launch. If they didn't have exclusivity we likely would have gotten a dozen star wars games and at least more than 2 would have been good.

@@bjrnthebootybandit Under EA you never would have seen an rts like empire at war or a tactical squad based shooter like republic commandos. During the early 2000s multiple star wars games would come out each year with at least one of them becoming a timeless classic until around 2010 when they began to slow down to about the rate EA was churning them out. So there would be way more during the resurgence of star wars if it wasn't for the exclusivity deal.

What bothers me is the lack of communication. These gaming companies keep staying silent about the product. They don’t show any concept art or any early gameplay footage.
i think the opposite. they put out these massive trailers that massively raise expectations and hype, only to put themselves between a rock and tattooine by canceling it 15 nanoseconds after the trailer launches. i think they should at least have a basic standard existing *game* that they know they can mold into a great game, rather than fkn 2hp and a dream.

The Kotor remake got me very hyped and now it is probably canceled and Eclipse had an incredible trailer and then I found it wasn't coming out until 6 years from now. I do agree with the other guy though if the game has already been announced. Like for Lego Star Wars I wish they kept fans more up to date and made some more teasers or had some more screenshots. But yeah they are announcing these games way to early. Just like how Marvel is announcing movies not coming out until 2026. Just annoying.
Well I do think Star Wars should have more games, comparing the releases to COD is bad. COD hasn’t had a good game in years, they’re just dropping half broken games just for the money, I don’t want half broken Star Wars games

Vanguard was terrible and Black Ops 4 too but Modern Warfare(2019) and Black Ops Cold War both had incredible campaigns and pretty fun online. Through like 10 years EA has had a good game with like no content, a game ruined at launch by micro transactions and once it became great it stopped being updated, and a game that only like 5% of Star Wars fans like. Fallen Order was the only great one. I think it's fair to compare. Also they have a lot less time to work on the game because they have to get one out every year. But with EA Battlefront is 2 years before Battlefront 2 and Battlefront 2 is 2 years before Fallen Order.
Good or bad , still happens...I think that's the main comparison here, the devs make it happen. CoD cancelations are almost non-existing.

Exactly, and what bugs me is that it’s the only place where Star Wars gamers can get a multiplayer experience. So why the hell would EA cancel support?? They literally have a monopoly! As someone who never played KOTOR, I was looking forward to to the remake so much. I'm absolutely devastated to hear that it could never get released now.
You should honestly play the OG game on PC or Mac. I know it looks pretty old graphically, and the combat is super clunky, but I promise the story is worth all that. It's one of the only games that I'm willing to play despite its major drawbacks because the story really is just that good. I promise you won't regret it.

Dude, I'm currently still in school and by the time Star Wars Eclipse comes out, I'll have finished school, studied and gotten a job if nothing goes terribly wrong. That's insane to think about
I've been wanting a modern KOTOR for so long and now it goes back to maybe never coming out because of this franchise's inability to make a game without development going so poorly that it just gets cancelled. Still no statement from Lucasfilm Games, Embracer, Aspyr, Sony or senior employee at any of these companies. It's beyond frustrating.
Thank you for being honest about the KOTOR remake. The amount of content creators in denial over that game is crazy. No folks, it's never coming out. "Indefinitely delayed" is what you say before earnings calls when you don't want to say cancelled. This game is cancelled.
I'm not a multiplayer fan, so I don't mind that aspect of the upcoming slate, but I have very little hype for any of them because as you pointed out, recent history has taught us that many of them won't come out. So, I'll get excited when they go Gold with the code. Not before. For the folks who are fans of multiplayer games, I can only hope LucasFilm games will partner with someone talented and reliable to resurrect the Battlefront Franchise.
I remeber telling that I will become a star wars game dev in the future to help improve the situation with star wars games. Now I study something with focus on production (materialwise, not software) where I don't know my chances to work on a star wars game. Hopefully I get the chance to be a project manager for one and do my best

Comparing star wars game releases to cod isn't fair imo. Cod is basically the same shooter each year and star wars games vary differently from each other. With fallen order we have a metroidvania soulslike game, star wars squadrons is a flight simulator game, then we also have lego star wars which retells the movies in lego.
Unfortunately, we do need to be patient. Becoming angry and frustrated about the matter is understandable, but we don't want to be too angry that a company rush's its product to try and satisfy us and we end with a game that is bad, because all that will be said when that happens is that they should have spent more time on it.

EA has a problem with the latter because they suck and continuously micromanage the shit out of games, which burns the minor devs out and give EA shit quality products, they need to give out more projects and stay more hands off.
What about cod Activision release a game every year and every year tons people play it so if that can be done with Cod why cant that happen with SW games ?
@@nathanskywalker1536 Activision are only able to do that because they have 3 game developers working for them that that rotate every 3 years, and they mostly focus on the multiplayer. I prefer my Star Wars games to have a compelling story which takes time. EA could have done/ do something similar with DICE and Respawn, but DICE have proven that they no longer have any idea how to make a multiplayer game and Respawn already have 3 Star Wars games in development. With LucasFilm Games handing the Star Wars Licences to other developers we could eventually see something like COD's yearly release, but it probably won't happen any earlier than 2024 with EA exclusive right to Star Wars Games ending at some point in 2023. So again unfortunately, we do need to patient.
I consider every announced star wars game only as a concept or suggestion, untill it really releases. There are no new star wars games coming. so every star wars game that gets released is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
I'm pretty sure the quantic dream game is coming out, quantic dream does tend to one up their last game by a lot so it's probably gonna be delayed but it will come out like Detroit Become Human.

It's sad to be a Star Wars fan, even with all these announcements it is hard to get excited with that gnawing feeling that they will just mess it up anyways. And it's rough thinking that way, I don't want to think that way but the track record for Star Wars games minus a good one here and there is slim.
Battlefront 3 could make more money than all these other Star Wars games combined. Direct sales wise but more attractive for EA micro transactions, not pay to win but cosmetic.. imagine how much money they could make from just selling quotes and skins.

I feel that other developers are pissed that there was the exclusive EA contract in the first place and now they aren't willing to put in any effort in retaliation. I understand their side, but it sucks and the players are the only ones that suffer because they're the only ones that care.

Kotor delay broke my soul....I've been around long enough for every rumor of a remake or reboot. I thought it was finally happening but nope....can't even get a port for the big boy consoles I mean c'mon
Aspyr for the KotOR Remake is a good idea on paper, as they have the love and adoration needed for such a product to be successful. That said, they've also never made a full game before, let alone a AAA game. They have no track record, no experience. I don't really trust another company writing-wise, but maybe a cooperative situation with another company working production would have worked out better.
That said, we only have a couple very sketchy comments to go off of when it comes to the situation going on behind the scenes. I don't think it's fair to immediately say Aspyr screwed up because we don't actually know what the heck is going on. Considering that _and_ all the other problems at/with Lucasfilm, especially the re-emergence of Kathleen Kennedy's antics more recently, it may very well be a very different scenario.
I personally think that it is not a problem with Star-Wars games at the moment but simply with games in general. Right now we seem to hit a big breaking-point in video-game history with how many big publishers hit a dead end (Ubisoft, Square-Enix, Activision-Blizzard...) and how many games are in development hell and delayed so much.
The reason: I think many publishers and big developers need to overthink their approach to development. Not every single game must be a hugely ambitious grand vision that will have everything every fan ever asked for. Sure, some of these games should still be made but the majority of games should probably be born out of a small idea that then get's a game build around it and not a complex net of ideas stitched together in a huge sprawling game. I think this is also true when it comes to Star-Wars games. Look at Jedi Fallen Order: It was on the surface a simple game that used many already established mechanics in conjunction to create something new AND IT WORKED. It didn't try to revolutionize and it didn't try to create a vast universe that is interconnected in complex ways. You could even say the locations where kind of boring and definitely very game-like. Now, because Jedi Fallen Order worked they can focus more on those thinks in the Sequel.
But again: This is an industry problem, not a Problem only Star-Wars games have.
The way I see it is, you get what you get. Be patient games take a he'll of a lot longer to make now.
I assure you kotor remake will happen, sony got the rights to what was an xbox exclusive and they will make sure they get something out of it, but yeah its probably like 3 or 4 years away from happening now which sucks.
I mean most of these games started development "recently". So I really didn't expect anything big releasing these next 2 years. But something that would probably make a lot of fans happy:
They discontinued bf2 support, fans took over. Just putting a little effort in fixing a few things with bf1 would mean a lot to fans like enabling dlc maps for single player, balance some stuff and maybe just add a few more unlockables. Bf1 is a great game, imo far better than bf2 in so many things. It would at least transition time until the next multiplayer thing.

Is the fact that a small franchise like CoD can make multiple games in a short time and a big ass franchise like star wars can produce bare minimum, all meanwhile canceled cod games are virtually not there and star wars has lengthy list of canceled games.
Cod is not a small franchise, almosy every male under the age of 30 was an avid cod player at some point

I was to add that star wars eclipse is almost certainly canceled. The hadn’t really even begun development.
The awesome cinematic trailer was saw basically had 3 purposes. Attached talent, attract investors, and attract companies interested in acquiring Quantum Dream (QD). None of these things happened. There has been public outrage around QD creating a hostile work environment, and having discriminatory practices towards women and queer employees. Given this negative reception, developers do not want to work for QD. Investors and acquisition companies do not want to invest in QD for similar reasons. Without the necessary development team or financial resources, Star Wars Eclipse is basically dead.
So long as Jedi Survivor and Eclipse come out before I die, I'll be fine... probably
Jedi Survivor and KOTOR for me. I’m been hoping that they remake the first KOTOR and when we finally get a confirmation, they take it away from us. This shit sucks

The fact that there has been no new addition to the Rogue Squadron series since Gamecube should cost at least 6 peoples their jobs.
You missed SWTor that is still getting updates and literally pushed a new story beat this week. Not a perfect game, but still very fun to catch up with the story and do some pve/pvp.
It's still an 11 year old PC game and doesn't fix the issue

The SW IP has been cursed with bad press in recent years. Not just in games. But in films too. And now shows are getting the same kind if rap as well apart from Mandalorian. The more I think about it, the more I feel bad defending it all.
The only games I know will come out are Respawn’s games and the Ubisoft project.. You said it perfect we’ve been patiently waiting way to long (10 years), and the only fun games we got were BF2 and Fallen order. Squadrons was ok, but that game is only fun if you like being a pilot or played the old star fighter games.
Fallen order had a great story and great combat, but had lots of bugs and some of the parkour was really clunky along with the enemy AI. If Survivor doesn't fix these problems I feel like I'm going to be disappointed like with Forbidden West. Zero Dawn had excellent ideas but had stuff to iron out which is what I expected the sequel to do. Instead most of my problems with the first game carried right over to the next. The first time I could overlook it thanks to the game being a new experience as a whole, but the second time I really noticed the problems a lot more. Hope that doesn't happen with Survivor.
I just hope this means that in 4 years - we'll be getting some real knock out Star Wars games coming out left and right. I will dedicate all my spending money towards them if so haha.
Honestly, it would be nice just to hear some news about the games in development, more details on these games.
Finally, is there confirmation on the "RTS Star Wars game" being a RTS? I've been looking around for information and the only thing I find is it's being made by folks who made Xcom and Civilization games. You'd think it'd be more of a turn-based game rather than a RTS considering the experience the employees of the studio have. Been seeing people go back and forward on what kind of strategy game it is.
Why can’t we just get a Star Wars open world mmo rpg looter shooter base building huge huge “huge” map. With multiple things to do and multiple things to be in world. Or better yet why don’t they cross all these games into one big Multiverse.
as much as how annoying, frustrating and sad it is to wait so many years for the next upcoming star wars games, we'll have to be patient and yes I know we've been patient for a long time now, but we can't rly do anything besides getting our frustrations out but don't put the pressures on the developers, otherwise we might end up having an unfinished game.

This is a good explanation of the problem but that is all it is. There are no solutions in this video. You even confirm that opening up the franchise to multiple companies was the right choice which Lucusfilm did. So I do not see anything else that they or us can do other then further Patience. Doing otherwise runs the risk of poorly made games which is personally far worse then delayed or even canceled ones. Also Star Wars becoming Call of Duty is the last thing I want.
I enjoyed Jedi fallen order. But it’s really not my style of gameplay. So it’s kinda rough for me right now as a Star Wars fan

then wouldnt all these games release in 2024, a lot of these games are in development hell so they have been delayed or have to be re worked from the start, kotor is delayed for at least 3 years at best, and eclipse is delayed to estimated 2027 or 2028,now we dont know the ea license details but it wouldnt have any issue on development or advertising, just on the release date of other games by other companies

Dude it takes time to make games.. like you said it was announced 2 years ago that the IP is open, so that just means games ARE in development from brands besides EA which is a plus, even if we have to wait, I’ll take 6-10 games from different companies than the 4 EA dropped(even tho I’ve enjoyed all the games)
Every COD game individually sells more copies then any single Star wars game and thats why the get pumped out yearly. They also don't have movies, cartoons, and stories that they have to release with so throwing a game out every year is more possible. Fallen order and Survivor are examples of this, they had to be developed and dropped between movies and series on disney+ to serve as tie ins. Thats the problem with games based off of movie franchises besides just making it a bad game too.
Have some optimism
EA's Battlefront II came around. Fallen Order was sick. And the Lego game was solid. How many star wars games do you really need? I'm sure if they were pumping out Star Wars games like they did in the 2000's you'd see videos about how overwhelming the quantity is and how underwhelming the quality is (a problem the 2000's games eventually ran into).
The real problem is 2 fold: 1 the IP has become too valued for producers to trust smaller studios to pump out games (KOTOR remake) and 2 they are announcing these games way too earlier in development (1313 and Eclipse). KOTOR remake was doomed from the start and was never going to end up like the game people would have wanted. Aspyr has only ever ported games and they got overly ambitious trying to make a 20 year old game play well... They went over budget and then lost their director. They pulled the plug for good reason.
What's frustrating is that people still feel entitled to good Star Wars games. Star Wars again and again has failed it's audience. Why should it deserve your attention and more importantly your wallet? If you love it... let it go...
Well we need more star wars games audults could play (not the lego games or the cheesy ones) if more games are made, there is a higher chance of a good star wars game being made. I say let the audience decide and pick out the best games rather than us barely having any choice. More games= more opprutunity for the few games with potential to improve
It's not just Star Wars games its video games as a whole. Covid destroyed the video game industry. Companies went from pumping put multiple games a year to maybe one every 3 years now. Even then they are bug riddled and barely worth playing. Sad time to be in gaming atm.

@@OutworldEmperor it didn't what it did was affect the workers, but it did not affect the way the higher up think, nor did it change there plans, it accelerated there plans, every company has been wanting to make games that last for 10 or so years with only content updates and dlc to keep people there, and this just let them do that faster because people got really into there games for a while
This is why i've only put my faith in Jedi Survivor as i know its actually happening, Kals journey has potential and the era it's set in is my favourite love the OT/post Clone wars Imperial transition everything else i don't care about. Star Wars games getting delayed is nothing new but the projects that do baffle me as way back from 1313 and project Ragtag made no sense whatsoever due to inherent micro managing, constant changes and demands from higher ups and even Goerge himself, the lack of communication also hurts as it's unclear as they do give out these HYPE trailers but to what avail, KOTOR being delayed with no real reason as to why is damaging to say the least.
I can't belive Eclipse is getting pushed back to 2027-2028 what in the actual hell is going on? I knew it was gonna be away out but Good God not that far. I agree Battlefont 2 being turned into a Live-Service multiplayer game would have been the best way forward they could have banked on Boba fett, Kenobi, and Andor for Media tie ins, Giving us desired Heroes and Villains and just something to play continously. KOTOR Remake is Defo cancelled the fact Aspire couldn't handle it is ironic but i believe its for the best as the origial 1 and 2 are some if not the best single player Star Wars games to exist they should try something new at this point i'm just interested in Jedi Survivor EA better deliver.

Disney has had a notorious reputation for not properly prioritising their gaming division when it comes to their intellectual properties, it’s why it took *SOO LONG* for a game like Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man & Marvel’s Avengers to get green lit & get made, it’s why we got cringe low effort Asymmetric MMO’s that were abandoned within a year after it’s release & it’s also why we ended getting those Toys 2 Life Disney Infinity games that completely failed & it’s why they ended up giving EA of all gaming companies *EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS AND CREATE & RELEASE STAR WARS GAMES FOR TEN WHOLE YEARS!*
Disney has intentionally thrown out every chance they got to make proper effort’s to get video games made since that’s not their main source of revenue..
Basically that lineup of SW game’s that just got *GREEN LIT* are not going to start rolling out until the end of this decade at the very least! 🤨

After the battlefront 2 controversy I don’t think any company in their right mind would wanna touch that for atleast the next 3 or 4 years till the hear dies down cause if they sell so much as a cosmetic pack they’re heating grilled for it by the media.

@@TheOzzyJedi they don’t care. I don’t really blame them either, if I was in their position I wouldn’t wanna mess with that for a WHILE. They can monetize the hell outta battlefield. They so much as charge for a battle pass in a battlefront 3 and it’s a PR nightmare. They are scared to death to mess with battlefront again over there
@@TeryonTheHuman 3 or 4 years is optimistic in my opinion. Like you said the bottom line is there is so much less profit for EA to do another Star Wars multiplayer game. As opposed to battlefield where they can get out much more profit with out any where near as much hassle. If I was them I would never do another Battlefront, maybe even sell the IP if a really good offer came by.

EA is only losing its exclusive rights next year. That’s why Jedi Survivor was set to release this Fall. I say we get back to this question in couple of years. But I agree that the whole situation is a total bullshit

@@joegardner851 Yeah, that's why I said "was set to release". EA still can release Star Wars games after 2022 but in 2022 EA still has exclusivity and in 2023 it won't. I still hope that LucasFilm Games has some unannounced game for Q1 2023 but after gamescom this hope will be gone
Dude I feel you. Sonic fans always complain about having trash games but at least their games come out more often than not
Honestly I don't mind waiting. I love single player games for the storyline, and after something like the sequel trilogy I'd rather they not rush it and actually develop good stories

I miss the prequel era of Star Wars and getting flooded by various types of games no matter how good or bad
Maybe it wouldn't be worrying if Game Developers or the company were actually outspoken about they're progress of making Video games like not every week just once a Month tell us how things are going like development has been going smooth or there's a couple bugs that we just haven't got right yet just something like that.
They shouldn't announce games til they're almost done, this is bs having to wait half a decade for a game
