Pretty simple: If I see a bass-player goofily playing with a pick like an idiot, (as if he/she was a discount guitarist) I give a well-deserved dislike.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with playing bass with a pick. There never was. The stigma comes from the situation where a band needs a bass player, and the shittiest guitar player of the group was relegated to bass duty, and they use a pick because that's all they knew. So it's not that playing bass with a pick is bad, it's that playing bass badly with a pick is bad. That's the facts.
