Connections 584 - NYT Word Game - 15 January 2025

The New York Times is back with another new daily word game, Connections! This is heavily inspired by "The Wall" from the BBC quiz show Only Connect. You must sort the sixteen given words into thematically appropriate groups of four--and you only have a few opportunities for error! I don't know if I'll be solving this every day but I'm giving it a shot for now at least. We'll see how it goes. Let me know how you like it!

This was so difficult. I didn't know the Mr. category. I was so jealous when you got them all almost immediately.

Couldn't separate blue and purple. "Perfect" as a martini descriptor never occurred to me.

I always struggle with the categories relating to alcohol. Could be a good thing tho 😂

I saw Mr Peanut, Mr Toad and Mr Robot immediately but it wasn’t until I only had the last four words that I thought about Mr Big.

* "The Wind in the Willows" helped me a lot here. 🐸❤️ I was happy to see that you also identified Mr. Big from "Sex and the City." I didn't watch the show either, but I knew of it, because I was interested to see what happened to Chris Noth, one of my favorites, after Dick Wolf summarily dismissed him from "Law and Order." It turns out that Mr. BIg is also a famous band. (I learned that from Everyday Doug's channel.) 😊

I don't think I've ever heard of the chocolate bar; I assumed it was referring to the SATC character.

@@MidwestSisu Yeah I looked it up and it turns out its primarily produced in and for Canada. Always surprises me which chocolate bars are specific to Canada.

Only the person UPSTAIRS and Chris know if cheating has occurred. Chris has supposedly NEVER failed at ANY of these games. I DO know that the most intelligent individuals will SOMETIMES fail at a task. On a positive note, however, I do not question Chris's intelligence. I think I clarified things for all of you. 😁

I saw purple first but only sure about 3. Eliminating the martini category words helped that fourth jump into focus. No clue how so many got yellow first.

I wouldn't call this one very tricky. I've never heard of Mr. Robot, though I spotted the rest of the Misters.

Ugh. So annoyed with myself. I have to stop doing these after midnight when I’m trying to sleep and more impulsive. I got “Mister” away, but thought “Mister Perfect” was something. I should have seen “Big” as quite obvious and scanned them all.
