It's a real feat of construction because the 13 rebus squares cover all 26 letters of the alphabet.
Wow! I'm not worthy.
32:10 HeadOn: apply directly to the forehead!
This was a really impressive puzzle.
Boll for cotton capsule refers to the bud of a cotton plant. ( I thought of it by thinking of a "boll weevil", which is an insect pest that destroys cotton buds).
Yep! I too worked backwards from boll weevil.
23:00 screaming Toastmaster. 😂
Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was John Denver's birth name.
Can't think of a better reason for him to choose a stage name than that. Heh.
I got the theme straight away from Rachel Weisz which I knew had to fit so then I checked the downs to figure out where the rebus went and I worked out slim/swim. Still, the whole thing took me 73 minutes with lots of obscure things in the answers and I had to look some things up.
You missed that the 13 rebus squares contained one of each of the 26 letters of the alphabet. I only got that from reading the Wordplay article. Completely unnecessary but impressive construction.
The Metrodome was the Minnesota Vikings and Twins stadium for many years
Chris vs. a tricky Sunday-slash-long solve! This rebus theme really tested flexibility. Fun to watch!⏲
Cotton grows in bolls.
I suspected a rebus pretty soon.
I was so confused with the roman numeral cause it had to be 6 letters until you put CV in one cell
I like that this is the first occasion where the theme is first encounter solving top to bottom, and the doubt it sowed for some on working out Roman numerals.
You didn't go back to 126A, "Happy companion", which was DOC, referring to the seven dwarves.
94A couldn't have been CDCASES as case was already in the clue! (I assume "material" and HAZMAT is okay for 13D because the latter is an abbreviation or used as its own word?)
Still, you point out a niggle for the purist xw aficionado. Well-done.
Minor quibble, but for 57 across, by hyphenating the clue, doesn't it suggest that "put-down" is a noun? Is "diss" a noun as well?
Diss can be a noun, yes.
@@ofme. Agree.
Isn't toastmaster the person leading/hosting toasts/speeches during formal occasions such as wedding receptions?
