It’s hard not to get swept up with new club reviews and content but all the videos I’ve seen so far just further validates my decision to keep my TSR3 at least for another generation. Frankly it just doesn’t make sense financially or performance wise to replace a driver every year or every other year. The gains just aren’t there.

Hey just trying to get someone’s un biased opinion. I have a tsr3 that I bought used off the shelf. And
I have a hard time closing the face as I have with every drive in recent years. BUT titelist is coming to my area to do outdoor fittings. Just curious if you think it might be worth truly getting fit outdoors even if the driver heads aren’t much of an improvement?

    • @snwman862
      @snwman862 2 місяці тому +4

@@grindano Depending on your launch conditions etc. What you could try is knocking the driver up in loft on the surefit setting. What that will do is close the face slightly to help. But it could be swing/patch/face closure to many variables. I would say go get fit and see what you are fitted into. But if its a bad fitting session and you have not hit or performed well take all information from the fitting with a pinch of salt. You have to be swinging well and hitting your normal shots as you would be.

I did a test fitting last week with the GT2 against my TSR2. Dropped spin, increased distance and similar to you Michael, tightened up dispersion significantly. The only thing putting me off changing is the huge price. My TSR with a Tour AD shaft was NZ$1200, the GT with the same shaft will set me back $1700 - that's a whopping increase! So the TSR will stay in my bag.

TSR3 is the best driver I’ve ever owned and I’ve been playing 30 -32 years. I was custom fit in the fall of 2023 for it with a Hzdrs Red CB 6.0 50 gram shaft and I’m good for another 4-5 years. Can’t be dropping $500-$650 every 2 years and expecting major changes in my driving. Been down that road many times over the last 10 years! I’m sure there are marginal gains in distance but definitely not enough to drop $650 on a GT driver.

I'm still in the Tsi3. I love it. I know at this point in time as far as tech goes, speed is essentially maxed out. The only real gains are forgiveness. Is the GT going to give me a ton more fairways? Probably not. Distance? Nope. Forgiveness? Marginal at best. For me personally, unless Titleist wishes to sponsor me and provide a GT it's not going in the bag. If anything I would look for a TSR online second hand that someone decided was no longer good enough. If anything it would be the TSR4. I want to hit the low spin bomber. The other factor for me, I like to shape the ball. How easy is it to hit a draw with the GT? It's hard enough with the Tsi3. I can't imagine taking more spin off. There's like no chance of turning 1 over if you wanted. For me unless the price is to good to pass up, it will be a no.

Good review, thanks. I went with Taylor Stealth 2 year ago, and after 6 months ditched it and went back to Titleist 913, yes now 11 years old. I have now ordered a GT3 due to significant gains in all areas, but understand why TSR users are not convinced due to marginal gains. The GT range is fantastic, and interestingly for me, I have gone back to a regular shaft after playing stiff for 45 years. The extra flex gave me 3-4mph club head speed with no adverse dispersion.

I’ve been in my GT3 8* for 10 days and I’m seeing significantly better misses (my miss is a fraction into the heel). Two years with my TSR3 8* definitively show that a fraction into the heel is punishing (for me) with TSR3 - seeing a floaty higher spin ball flight. For me GT3 just goes - with a slightly higher launch and generally tighter spin profile - and generally feels hotter, in my opinion. Ventus TR Black 6x in both. Just had a custom fitting for GT3 and had a TSR3 fitting few months ago -> got exactly the same shaft, loft and settings so seems consistent.
The fitter will sell his TSR3 heads at a discount now when they're being replaced, so I will probably go for that.
What I saw with the GT3 was 1 or 2 more MPH, but that could be the daily form. It was very consistent on good strikes, and pretty decent on bad onces, just as this video shows - will make a decision based on what price on old heads are. They're neck-on-neck for me...

One man's opinion here.. unless you have a driver that's more than 5 years old, give or take, you're not gaining anything on COR. The gains will be minimal at best. It's been proven over and over by so many people. For off-center hits, probably some advantage with a "newer" head design, but again it's all in how you strike the ball. I switched from my Sim head into a Stealth 2 only because it developed a crack. Otherwise, I'd still be in that. I’ve spent a good amount of money on clubs….but these brands are just making it impossible anymore to keep up with new equipment when drivers are $700 and new irons are $1300…it’s just insane and I hope they realize it one day

Higher spin has been the issue for Titleist drivers for years now, so it's clear they've spotted it, and listened to players. But, if this is how low spin the GT3 is, then I wonder who the GT4 is aimed at.

Is it really better or you are loosing power?

I will be honest though, I still feel like the TSR3 beats the GT3 in the looks department. Just that simple design on the top of club head with no branding other than on the sides of the club head just looks absolutely incredible.

I've been gaming the TSR since release. I saw the reviews leading up to my GT fitting and assumed it likely wasn't worth the upgrade but I changed my mind after the fitting. Distance gain is minimal on centered strikes, assuming one was correctly fitted on their gamer. You gain a bit of club head speed due to the lighter and improved design. The BIGGEST difference is off-center strikes, especially in the heel. I was pleasantly surprised seeing how well the GT3 mitigated my usual low-heel miss. Backspin numbers remained tight and didn't skyrocket on my low-heel misses.

@@Golfblues1798 I understand the sticker shock when people see the GT prices. I'm sure TSR users would change their tone if they got fitted for the GT and saw how good off-center strikes are with the GT. I always take advantage of the free fittings Titleist offers for new releases.

The gains have flattened out for average weekend golfers for the past 10 years - it’s the marketing hype and the need to return dividends to these companies share holders is the real reason they need to make new product claims. $1000 bucks in Australia better spent at pub or on a lesson….not on a driver

I only purchased my TSR3 middle of last year and typically keep my gamer driver for 3 years. My setup and numbers are similar; Speeder Platinum 5X tipped 1” at 44.75”. My ball speed average is 162, launch 12.8*, spin 2450. I can’t see me even demoing the GT3 for fear the numbers would be better🤣.
I’m so pleased with the TSR3, best, most consistent driver I’ve ever owned. My son is playing the AI Smoke TD w/Ventus Black 6X he purchased in Spring and I had opportunity to try for a round in June, when I flew out to visit him. Awesome driver though I prefer the sound and feel of TSR3, I had to look at face to know where my misses were. Even though they are same D4 swingweight, it was just a much greater effort to swing that driver on backside. Obviously sticking with the TSR3.
Did you have chance to try the GT4? My local pro says it’s more forgiving, or at least it can be setup to be due to the dual weights, front and rear. If I had to switch at this point, I’d likely give that a demo along with GT3.

Like your channel but you might be selling out for Titleist to sell their new driver for $649. If one goes for a fitting at Club Champion, that person will most likely be looking at paying well over $1200. NUTS!!!! When does the ridiculous price hiking stop? People should save their money from a way over priced driver and get lessons to hit it straighter instead. SAS's channel will have a field day with this one!
