Oliver Mtukudzi And The Black Spirits | NPR MUSIC FRONT ROW

- GlobalFEST is a great place to discover young new talent, but occasionally the producers welcome familiar friends to their party. This year, it was Zimbabwe's Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi, who has been an African musical icon since the late 1970s and brought that sense of homecoming to GlobalFEST with his band The Black Spirits. With his sweet acoustic guitar and husky voice, Mtukudzi gave a lilting and gorgeous performance that evoked traditional Zimbabwean sounds like those of an mbira thumb piano, but filtered them through an accessible, guitar-centered aesthetic. -- ANASTASIA TSIOULCAS
SET LIST "Dzandimomotera" "Hear Me Lord" "Ziwere" "Mutsverendende" "Muchatuta"

Now this is real music, the real deal.
Captivating as always. Typical Tuku shows. We miss him😭
This make me feel like I am a Zimbabwean, I feel great
The language is shona, a Bantu language spoken in zimbabwe, southern Africa. He is pleading with Hossana( Jesus Christ) He has faced so many challenges and wants Hossana to intervene. He can"t take the challenges anymore,He doesn't want them.Thats basically about the song.
Thanks for the translation
Thank you for the translation.
He was a legend and treasure of not only Zimbabwe but Africa as well.
Winky D at the legend's funeral wake was on point when he humbly said his generation can not fit into Tuku's shoes even if they combined forces, they simply need to have their own shoes. This was a class act so effortless yet so detailed, the repertoire, the choreography, the subtle underlying drama, the captivating dances, mellowing down and up, awesome!!
RIP
❤music oliver❤beautiful music Oliver, thank you, memories stay, you are amazing singer,Africa, will always remember You,.
Dead is as natural as to live is.
The only thing remains in this world permanently is *music* and *love* .
Don't know why I never heard of this guy sooner.
He was good best at what he does.we will surely miss him but his music live forever
I keep asking myself the same question.
The World is Cruel, if today....Oliver is no more Existent!
Legend
Ha.. they were intentionally elaborate in the performance of the song. Instruments and sound on point. One of the best performances from the Legend. Song for me has a tinge of nostalgia in me as I know it from the original acoustic version of the 70s right through to the mixes. Here Tuku and crew sang from the heart. Performance awesome. Thank you NPR music!
Do you know if there's entire video of all songs of included, online or selling?
