Back on track. That is what we love him for: not the fashion, but serious drumming stuff that is worth thinking about for both beginners and more ecperienced guys. Notice how he keeps solid time even with his head. 😀
Bro, I have found my online instructor after much search and consideration for others. You are just the right type for me. Now I can truly say I studied with Rob Beat Down Brown. 😀
Thank you! Perfect. Sextuplets 1. accent 1 2. accent 1 and 6 3. accent 1 and 5 4. accent 3 and 6 5. accent 1 and 2 6. accent 3 and 4 Commenting this for my own reference because I'll be coming back to this a lot! For anyone who hasn't watched the video yet, I purposely left out some vital info so be sure to watch the whole video, this guy's the best drum teacher :)
I share the same philosophy on piano "If it ain't practical don't practice it." As I'm learning drums this is pure gold. thanks for all you do! Subbed.
Always great and applicable lessons! Playing the *back* of the stick is so important! Appreciate it, Rob! Great demonstrations! Happy drumming, everyone!
You are amazing, my man. As a piano player and bassist who isnt looking to do a full blown study of the drums, but definitely have the skill to be satisfied with my playing and having proper technique, I cannot stress how awesome these hand workouts are. I try working out stick control, but honestly, just not for me right now. Transcribing fills and grooves and doing a few of your hand videos are proving to be amazing and more of where I am right now. You are absolutely the best, Rob. Thanks for taking the time to keep this amateur in shape!
Jesus Christ dude! You're a drum God! I am still trying to get down exercise 1 but I can't get the flow of it and the elegance like you. You make it sound so easy!
New subscriber - bought a 2nd hand kt to try and learn how to play during lock down and gave up. Come across your channel this evening and have made more progress in the last 2 hours than I did in possibly a whole month before, seriously. Love it, thank you
Love these types of exercises! Very simple, but effective. I've been using some of your lessons for a few weeks now and I can see my improvement! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I love u man, for real. Your my favorito mi hermano!! Thank u for that video and all the others. Really inspired to do that!! THIS IS WHAT WE DO!! Mua!!
LOVE the feeling of working the wrists and forearms that these provide away from the distractions of the kit and just on a pad where there's nothing to camouflage weaknesses. Thanks, Beatdown. Youre the real deal. Curious as to what metronome you have running on the laptop. Stay safe man.
best intro ! we be practicing here ; thank u Rob, after a while working the rudiments by myself, I've finally been able to put all that with a band... and my hands were fast and precise, so thank u again Rob 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for this Rob! I`ve been working on shifting accents on paradiddle inversions and I find them brutal. I suspect this will be even harder but I`m going to dig into these. Much appreciate the PDF!
I've been teaching myself to play a single stroke on one hand in between the double stroke of the other hand. By alternating this between hands you can throw down 6 notes really fast !
Greetings from New Zealand. I discovered your channel, a couple of weeks ago, very cool! Been a casual drummer for 30+ yrs, now inspired to dedicate some more time to it and get out from the garage and play live again. Just ordered some merch which will be a good look for our summer. You've provided some light in a dark year, thanks. Some NZ bands you might like to check out... Fat Freddy's Drop The Black Seeds Shihad Shapeshifter Rob A.
Love the exercise Rob..Rob a few months back you posted a video on The 6 stroke roll which you demonstrated on the pad ,you did say you were going to post how you would use it on the kit, don't know if you posted it or if you did it BTW i emailed Drumeo so you can be a guest drummer so hope they saw it. Keep it up man.
Love the video. Apologies in advance if you've already answered this elsewhere, but what device are you using and what's the name of the metronome app?
Ex.#4 really showed up a weak spot. My hands can do it, but my ears want to shift the downbeat at that tempo. I may be working it up to 95bpm. Hands felt great after these. This reckless unlawful lockdown has really messed up so much. Capitulating with it has only resulted in shifting goalposts. Drum on!
Hi Rob, I’ve followed your exercises over the past month or so. I’ve got the grip down pat as I’m a old drummer returning to the art. The question is the quiet strokes .. should keep working with the towel thing and the short drop and snatch exercises to master the quiet control singles at the quiet range ? Cause lol can’t get em as smooth and quiet as yours even at slower tempo ... just a question as it’s feeling that control is or can be tough that tiny smooth control bounce and snatch thing no what I mean ? Thx Rob
I learned to play songs on the drums, I didn't learn HOW TO PLAY THE DRUMS. All my fills were single-stroke. What's a rudiment? I'm learning how to spin a stick like Tommy Lee! So now I'm starting over. I got rid of the double-bass drum pedal and the rototoms. I got a snare stand, a practice pad, and also a 10" popcorn snare, which I recommend highly as it makes practicing more fun when you're playing on a poppy snare and not a pad all the time. So, before I play the drum set, I'm going to learn the snare drum. I'm going to master the shit out of it and then move what I've learned onto the kit. I'd like to get to the level where all I need is like a 3 or 4-piece kit. I want to be a drummer, not a guy who plays drums.
You mean there very well might be people who do not have a practice pad in the house? One upstairs, one downstairs, one in the garage. Is that possible? 😂

Good good stuff.. I practice 6tuplets constantly.. great great to get you ready to bang out random fills. Some quick stick work inside an Ostinato...
Loved it !

Great video as usual!!! What kind of pad is that?
Punky Power! That's right baby. Power to the Pinky!🥁❤
Hi Rob, what kind of Metronome are you using, and how can I get one? Thanks
What is that practice pad you are using?
This seems like it would be a good exercise for Moeller
Love the video. Apologies in advance if you've already answered this elsewhere, but what device are you using and what's the name of the metronome app?
So difficult to get motivated on a practice pad! Sorry Rob, I think your brilliant brother!

It's a 'Black Hole' pad from RTOM. You can get an entire set for your kit

👽 Hi Rob,
Cannot download pdf; Bitly blocking it.
Thanks
Hi Rob, when I want to download pdf, this warning seen "Warning: This URL has been blocked by Bitly's systems as potentially harmful."
Got some work to do.
The very last note Rob played was slightly ahead of the click. Some call it rushing, I call it pushing 😂
Does a desk count as a practice pad?
If you can bounce a stick on it, it counts 👌🏾
Well 3 and 6 is hard for me

Nah. The towel is simply for strengthening a weaker hand. You can fix your problem just by practicing controlled, even singles at a low volume
@@RobBeatdownBrown thx 🙏 Rob will do

How to play singles and double on the beat
“... smack yourself.”

Great exercise!! Do you still practice traditional? Love your chops. So smooth.
I still do regularly, yea. I also use it in church every Sunday just to keep those muscles in shape
