Depending on what you’re bailing (small bales, Big, Round......), when hay is baled, it should not be higher than 18 to 22 percent moisture. At higher levels of moisture, bales lose large amounts of dry matter caused by excessive heating and molding. Scott, How do you keep the round bales so square shouldered? Do you have a way to move the rake back and forth in front of the round baler? When ever I round bale, I almost with out a fault have to move the baler to one side or the other over the windrow as I fill the bale chamber. P.S. I love what you have done with your 705, I am going to ask Santa for a R23a for Christmas.
+Laura Winfield santa is going to be generous at your house this year. Keeping the pickup reel loaded with as much hay as it can take is the key. Speed is how you control that and thickness of the crop determines speed. Hope that helps.
Raking is the key to bale shape. Make the windrow as wide as the the baler pick to keep the chamber full all the across the bale. The windrow also needs to uniform to feed the into the baler evenly so as to build the square shouldered bales. A lot depends of the heaviness of your crop.
It's to do with how tight you have the baler set to. My dad has made round bales for years and he has his baler set so that the bales that he makes is nice and tight and hard. He also used the bale twine instead of the net wrap. They always so good when they come out and they don't fall apart when they're just sitting over they year.

All tractor manufacturers have offered a cvt transmission for over 10 yrs... Deere calls it ivt because they think they r special lol. They r good for light duty operations like this but suck in the bigger tractors that do tillage. They r nice but often use more fuel than the mechanical trans... all the extra hydraulic pumps take more fuel.
and maybe when you need tractor tires they make a lowprofile tire they ride a bit stiffer and dont bounce so much look into them they have a redused sidewall some guys swear by them
Wouldn't those make the machine ride much worse by having less cushion to soak up the bumps so to speak ? My son, who's into the whole Honda Civic Hatchback racers switched to low profile and the car handles the corners better at high speed but holy cow, a marble in the road feels like ya ran over a piece of rip rap !
Why do you bale so dry when I'm baling grass and when moisture gets below 14.5 I stop to dry ever one here in western Oklahoma likes it to be about 18 moisture
Alfalfa is higher moisture but in dry air does not mold. Bermuda will mold in high humidity if moisture is high. We baled below 14% in the Ozarks on dry days and late summers without mold but if specifically for horses, want the moisture lower.
Quick question my M5 111 KUBOTA Tractor pro is a 540 I been seeing most hay cutters have a 1000 pto. I have seen some adapters but I don’t know if they are safe and ok to use
Ya it has a 540 or some come with a 540e I need t find a hay conditioner with a 540 pto I’m learning the hard way that’s something I should of did more research on
I just read in the owners manual that the pto shaft is interchangeable u remove a keeper and slide the 540 out put the 1000 pto shaft in and install the keeper and that’s it I don’t know how true that is when I get home to South Texas I’m going to try it out
Scott, what size and weight are your rolls? I hear of some guys making tighter or looser round bales..:what is preferred by horse people? Is there a difference between bales for cows and bales for horses?
sorry sonnenschein the 2 new hollands will do about 500 hrs a year and the Deere will do about 120. I dont plan on selling any of these tractors. I want to add a windrower to take hours from the tractor I cut with. The used market is so bad they bring very little, it's not worth letting them go once they get to a certain age.
sure JD TRACTORS ARE LESS THEN OTHERS BUT JD really nails you on parts that why there is that great out fit that makes an sells of brand JD parts that were you get them after the warranty is out, or the 10,000 parts they say are maintenance parts
John Deere is the worst tractor in the world you pay big money for green and yellow paint. Go get yourself a new Holland or a Kubota John Deere is my last choice of any kind of equipment.

The four foot bale is also a little easier to fill with a normal windrow than if you had a five foot wide bale chamber

Vermeer has a continuous baler. There is a European maker that shifts between 2 bale chambers
Is it just the video or is your pickup ground pressure super light? It seemed like it was just barely touching the ground with the gauge wheels.
