- An update on the power test on the 1.25 meter band of the Baofeng UV-17 Pro GPS. The tx issue on 1.25 meters is now fixed in firmware version 1.03 onwards (and possibly in the older 1.28 firmware?.....don't have a 1.28 firmware model to test.....it was definitely faulty in firmware version 1.27).
Thank you.
I'm surprised that you didn't check the output on the 70cm band as well.
Yep, that was an oversight on my part but I can assure you that there has never been an issue with 70cm on the UV-17 pro GPS. The only issue was with tx on the 1.25m band and the point of the video was to demonstrate that the 1.25m tx had been fixed but I take your point about 70cm. As for the CB capability, that seems to be unique to Australia (?) as most other countries don't use that band and just stick to the ham bands. 👍😎 Thanks for your comments. 👍
Was still a great video.
Unfortunately, these radios still violate FCC regulations when transmitting on 2m and 1.25cm. I just bought a pair because others had said that Baofeng fixed the lack of proper harmonic filtering. Unfortunately, the spurious emissions still violate the FCC rules (and put your ham license at risk) on 2m and 1.25m. On 2m, I get a good strong signal on the fundamental but also a good strong signal at the second (+19dBm) and third (-6.4dBm) harmonics. At 1.25m, the fundamental is strong (more than 4W) so any prior firmware issues with that have been solved, but the third harmonic is at -8.4dBm. 70cm seems to be OK. I'll be returning the radios.
Thank you for the nice review comparing different firmware versions. How about the UHF transmission power? In addition to the 70cm band, the CB band is also interesting at 477MHz.
@@ysyang thank you. You must be in Australia because we don't get CB on UHF in the UK only on HF hence why I didn't test it there but I'm sure it would be fine there too. Thank you for your comment. 👍😎
@@bigwill4423 Yes I am in Australia and the UHF CB operate near 477MHz. It would be ideal to have one device to cover both amateur 2m/70cm and UHF CB. The review and feedback are so helpful. Baofeng has a "LOT" of models. Initially I thought that the higher model numbers mean higher performance. It looks that the UV-17 Pro GPS may be better than UV-18 and UV-21. Thnk you again.
Is anyone else having terrible audio on AM air band? My firmware is 1.07 and hardware is 1.30.
Good video. Do you have much activity on 1.25m in Ireland? 1.25 repeaters are few and far between here in the US.
But I'm fortunate there is a 1.25 repeater about 15 miles from me in Mariette TX. The tower is on top of a small mountain so excellent range. 73s 👍
@@BrayJaythe2nd in the UK 1.25 meters isn't actually an allocated ham band and we're not allowed to transmit there....but I understand it's quite popular in the USA where you are allowed 1.25 meters as a ham band. 👍😎
Thank you for another great video!! How do you update firmware on this radio?
@@sekibulja-fu3bv as of this date and time you can't update the firmware on analogue Baofeng radios as Baofeng don't release the firmware or the bootloader to the public. The only way you can currently get a new firmware on the radio is to buy a new radio with the new firmware already installed on it by the manufacturer. ☹️
bag of crap get baofeng uv 5rh pro max gps
@@RichMantaray ...is that the one that has aprs? 🤔
Grazie, veramente interessante,io l’ho ritirato oggi appena arriva ti faccio saper cosa hanno installato, quale versione.👍
