Just so you know the reason Harry had his shirt tucked into his pants like that, is because the Dursley never bought him his own clothes. He only got the clothes that Dudley outgrew.
I know most of those in the comments already know this, but please, no spoilers, no foreshadowing, no wink wink statements, let Rebecca experience the franchise as blind as she can possibly be. I don't know how many movies she has pre-recorded, but she does read comments, if she gets too big of a whiff of certain plot points/twists, her reaction won't be as genuine. Everybody loses when that happens

Rons seeing himself being head boy and quidditch captain is much deeper than what it seems. It is just a reflexion of he wanting to be seen and feel like he is important and special for once, as he has 5 older brothers who have already achieved everything. In the book is better explained. He feels he has all these expectations on him because everybody asumes he is gonna be an intelligent prefect like percy, good at quiddicht like charlie, the cool popular boy like bill and so fun to be around like the twins... And even if he achieves all that, it wouldnt be so special because someone already achieved it before him. Even Ginny, who is younger, has something he doesnt, as she is the only girl. And they know their mother always wanted a daughter.
So, Rons desire is much deeper than what it seems in the movie.
He just wanted to feel apreciated for what he is, and feel like someone is proud of him.

The downside of being one of the younger siblings. Everything seems stacked against you because it isn't only your peers that are competitive, but your own family.
Not overly important but if Ron had jumped off the horse it would’ve been considered cheating and they would’ve lost the chess game. Also in the book it was more graphic because Ron wasn’t on a horse he was on the square and the queen wacked him upside the head and dragged his unconscious body off the board to the side with the broken pieces and then went back to her square.
Guess that would’ve been too graphic for the movie.

Yeah, the way they adapted it here was pretty poorly done, because realistically there's no reason he even had to ride the knight to begin with. There was only one empty space (where Harry was), so Ron probably could have just ordered all the pieces while off of the board.
@@peterlewis2178 I think it was a you have to play to cross thing. So if Harry was the only one he would have been the only one to cross and to order the pieces, and Harry was bad at chess. But in the book there was another test after so it made sense Hermione had to cross with him.
I remember Ron asking the chess pieces questions in the book. And the pieces left the board when he placed everyone.
@@GreenParlour0749 Yeah, it just wasn't clearly enough explained in the movie, so it comes off feeling really silly imo. I mean, Harry went back to Hermione and talked to her after the game was over, and then crossed the board again without anything happening, so it seemed like the board was just de-activated after the game was won.
@@peterlewis2178 the movies probably banked on the watchers having read the books and not getting upset by changing everyone's personalities. Which I'm guessing was to make them easier for child actors to portray. But I could be wrong about that.
you don’t understand how obsessed with harry potter. when i was 11 i was celebrating my birthday in england and i went on a tour of most of the locations they shot at from the first movie to the third movie .

Ron is overshadowed by five older brothers. He is deeply insecure about it because he feels that whatever he achieves, they did it first. And now he's friends with Harry, who also overshadows him.
p.s. The music is by John Williams, who wrote many of the most iconic movie themes ever: Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park...

Alan Rickman understood everything.
The thing is, Harry could have actually been put into Slytherin. The hat felt something in him that would have fit Slytherin, it even considers putting him in but Harry refuses and begs it not to. The hat does take personal choices into account, you can see it listened to Harry saying "Not Slytherin"
As far as Ron's deepest desire, it's more about being successful and standing out since he has so many siblings and his family's poor so he's always been insecure about that
Hey Rebecca, so actually "Turtle neck guy" Oliver Wood was almost every girl crush in this movie. Ron saw success at Hogwarts because his siblings have been. And yes definitely the station is King's cross St Pancreas.

rons real desire was to stand out as the best of his brothers, to have the attention of his family for once. as he was the youngest of 6 brothers, the other 5 have excelled in some way or another, even the twins.
Read the books after the movies so you can experience a whole new adventure.

Ron has 5 accomplished and popular older brothers. He wants to be seen as equal to or better than all of them. Especially since they've always teased and put Ron down...especially the twins.
I don't care how large Dudley is, if you have an oversized shirt you wear it out. It's a fashion statement.
@ Not in the 90's. Plus it was probably helping keep it from falling off..at least in the books it would have been because in the books Harry was scrawny and underfed while Dudley was a great deal larger than in the movies.
I concur. The movies had to omit lots of information so reading the books would give you the "actual" story.

Something to note since the casting choices look a little older is the fact that Harry's parents were actually only 21 when they were killed, I feel like it just highlights the tragedy more that they were so so young
they definitely aged up Harry’s parents and The Marauders in the movies because of Alan Rickman’s casting. James and Lily were probably around their late 20s to early 30s when they were killed and the film picks up when Snape and The Marauders are in their late 30s / early 40s.
7:29 Harry waving his wand for the first time with John Williams score and John Hurt's acting is maybe my favorite scene in the entire film. It's pure magic!
It's worth rewatching. Yes the scenes where Harry's scar hurts and at the quiddich match do work. Notice that the face coming out of the book and the one coming out the back of Quirrel's head are the same model and animation.
Who came up with this movie's music? His name is John Williams and just about any famous music score from the 70's, 80's and 90's that you have heard especially from a Spielberg movie from Jaws to Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Schindler's List oh and also a little known film Star Wars was one of his creations. Honestly too many to mention all of them. If you love an orchestral theme to a movie it's probably John Williams

When it comes to the mirror, Ron's true desire is to be able to stand out and have something he's good at.
They go into more detail in the books, Ron's got 5 older brothers and their all special in some way, Bill is a curse breaker, Charley works with dragons, Percy is head boy, prefect and ends up working for the ministry, then there's Fred and George who are not only the funny ones but create their own busines. There's also his little sister Ginny who goes on the play professional quidditch player and reporter.
Coming from such a special family Ron always felt overshadowed and invisible. It also doesn't help that his best friend's are a braineack and a celebrity.

I always found it even in this movie how with Snape's dialogue there tends to be a lot.....of awkward............pauses

It's expanded more in the books, but Ron is the second youngest child of seven children. Two work in prestigious fields, one is a prefect, the twins are loved by the other students, and his mother very clearly dotes on his younger sister. The mirror shows him standing out and being distinguished, when he feels very invisible in every day life.
The first book is quite short actually, you could read it in two days if you do only that.

Daniel was 10 or 11 when filming this movie.
It is King's Cross station although before renovation and they changed the track number signs to the pillar row for a more cinematic view I guess. The divide between 9 and 10 is on the side of the station on the suburb lines side and they normally go through the ticket barrier instead of a wall.
Always expect plot twists in every HP story.
Two days? I read it in one. Went to the library at 8:00 on a Saturday morning to get it and was finished by 10:00 that evening.

St Pancras rail station is across the road (the tube station is combined for the two) and I think they used St P for the exterior shots in the series as the architecture is so much more glamorous. The book location is Kings Cross though.

9:20 Narnia did it first, but the movie did come out later than HP. Narnia came out as a book right after the second war, with radio adaptation soon enough. It did do the seven books thing first as well.

Harry Potter and Percy Jackson were my two favorite series when I was younger, and thankfully the Harry Potter movies are pretty good film adaptations (hoping the PJO Disney+ series can make up for the sins of the movies). Excited to see you follow along throughout the rest of the films - and I would of course recommend reading through the books at some point to pick up the extra details that get left out of the movies.
Lessons learned from this reaction:

I think the thing with Ron is perhaps that he feels somewhat incompetant and the desire the mirror reflects is a very competant version of himself that gets recognized as such by the people around him, or something of the kind. Perhaps he also wants to live up to his older siblings or something like that

21:00 Ron's desire is to be someone importante for his family, he's the youngest brother so all his life his been on their shadow, using their old stuff, trying to be like them, he wishes for him to do something memorable that would make their family and himself proud of him
i used to hate the idea of watching an adaptation before reading the book it was adapted from. but because of my dad wanting to see the hunger games when it came out (which i had refused to read) i watched the movie first. and after the disappointing divergent adaptations, i decided that it actually was nice to watch the movies first. that way if the movies are a terrible adaptation, i could still enjoy them as movies. then i could later read the books and i would get new information. the harry potter series does have some bad adaptations, but overall i wasn't thinking "oh they got this wrong" while watching the movies. i think reading the books after would be a good experience because you get a ton of extra background stuff. but you'll have to let us know if there's anything that's hard to understand without having that extra knowledge.
I've started watching the movie or show first. They can never do a book justice with all the constraints of a movie. There's always something missing.

I hope you enjoy the Harry Potter movies! They're definitely comfort watches for me now. My favorites are The Philosopher's Stone & Chamber of Secrets because of Chris Columbus' warm and cozy direction! He even nailed the spooky vibes like the Forbidden Forest.

I’ve taken the quiz around 8-9 times & I’ve gotten every house but Slytherin. It’s been pretty evenly distributed through the three houses as well. I’ve chosen Hufflepuff, since I think badgers are awesome & the day room seems cool. They also seem like the most ‘cast off’ of the four houses & that appeals to me as well.

Also another fun fact: King's Cross doesn't actually have a barrier between Platforms 9 and 10. They're side platforms, separated by track. If Rowling had been more careful in studying the track layout, it should have been Platform 8 3/4 or Platform 10 3/4.
