    When I had a leaking injector in my semi, I discovered it by the increased level in my oil pan. I did an oil analysis, and found it was fuel causing the increase. Took the valve cover off to verify that it was an injector leaking, and which one it was. I only needed to change an o-ring, but did all six. No problems after that.

    Been chasing a problem for 2 months on my 04 cummins, watched this video and found out 5 out of the 6 injectors were puking fuel out of the top just like your video showed. My symptoms didn’t match injectors but this test just summed it all up. I had no smoke at idle just ran like 💩 driving under a load. When I data logged it, it had 127.4% engine load didn’t make any sense to me nor did it have a check engine light. Hopefully this saves my truck and brings it back to life once again!

      Did it sound like rod knock?

    • @bronsond7552
      @bronsond7552 2 роки тому +2

      @@xmo552 yes it sounded like a heavy knock from the mid portion of the motor. I luckily had a thermal imager to see if one of the injectors got stuck open. And sure enough cylinder 3 had a stuck open injector, I had it sent out and tested and the solenoid was junk, aka a fuel knock is what mine was

      I just replaced my #3 injector today. It's better but it still does it. It knocks hard between 50-60 mph. I'm at 288k, I may have more bad injectors.
      I have to drive very slow to prevent the knock OR stomp on it and get past the 50-60 mph but then I overheat asap.
      2 techs at 2 locations told me it was #3, but I think it makes sense that I may have more than just #3 bad. Maybe that was just the worst leaker.

      Update:
      Head came off. Found a broken ring caused by turbo leaking oil. It's been down a month and nobody in the damn country can find parts to rebuild a stock 5.9 Cummins right now.

    06 5.9 noticed when I start it’s louder faster idle. Doesn’t go away when warmed up. When you put in gear it’s rearing to go . Dumped heavy dose of hot shots extreme in fuel and their edt. Yesterday I started seemed calmed down but back again. Could anyone point me in right direction thank you

    I'm having to do the Same thing in my 07 5.9 and it only has roughly 170,000 miles. Wish I could be prevented this before.

    Hello I have 2006 dodge 2500 and it just started to do this, starts normal idle normal but when I start to drive it quits accelerating and then accelerate again it keeps doing it until I can get to a speed of above 30 or 40 at hi speeds doesn’t do it but if I stop at a light it starts to do it again it has new filter and new fuel pump what could be the next step

    So it was leaking oil into the crank case?

    • @DuDs550
      @DuDs550 4 роки тому +1

      leaking fuel into the crankcase. If your oil level is going UP this could be why

    I have a 98 24v 5.9 cummins. It starts and idles fine but when you touch the accelerator it jerks violently. So bad you cant drive it unless you really ride the clutch. Also it will not go over 2000 rpms. Bogs down near 2000 rpms. What can this be. Im pretty new with diesel engines but more than willing to learn.

    • @Redsfanatic32
      @Redsfanatic32 4 роки тому +2

      More than likely it’s the injector pump. They’re well known to go out on the 98.5 to 2002 24 valves

    Couldnt you just start your truck let it idle for a bit then pull the cover off? if its leaking you would be able to see it correct?

    Where is the fuel pessure reg sensor?

    • @randomgooglename
      @randomgooglename 9 років тому +1

      Its behind the injection pump, on the left front of the motor You'll see a pulley on the front of it since the pump is gear driven.

    • @santa1767
      @santa1767 4 роки тому +1

      You'll see a pulley on the front of it?? I thought you would not see a pulley since it is gear driven.

    why did you pull the return line off and monitor fuel out? that would have give same answer less deconstruction?

    Why disconnect the fuel pressure regulator? I've read about this diagnostic procedure several times but no one else has mentioned this.

    • @1xXCoLeXx1MC

      It maxes out the pump so you can see the leak easier

    • @loveNaturesWrath
      @loveNaturesWrath 6 років тому +3

      believe doing such a thing would increase pumps output to provide more fuel to the rail providing increased fuel. ... curious.. where you read of this procedure.?

    What causes them to leak? 2 of mine are leaking right now on 03 5.9 HO motor.

  • @lucky13sss10
    @lucky13sss10 8 років тому +3

    just being realistic. 25000psi of fuel pressure....for 3-5 mins with no real load you'd leak a lil too. much safer to just ohm them like dmax injectors

    • @KennethFKlein
      @KennethFKlein 7 років тому +11

      BAMBAM359 that only test the electrical portion of the injector not the mechanical side. Leaking injectors usually come from over pressurization. The correct way to test the injectors is to pull them and send them out for bench testing.

      Could just be the o ring inside. Pop the top off with a socket and change them out and put it back together.
