Hi Kelly, we surmise that the room with the pool table in it was always part of the entrance hall because we know that the pool table did not arrive here unil the 1950's. The table itself is actually as old as the house and very beautiful. It was already antique when it arrived here. Thank you for watching and commenting!!
Thank you for taking us on a tour of the entrance and surroundings. Love the floor, staircase, and painting also nice lights you’re going to hang. It’s a beautiful Chareau
I have no idea what the back terrace looks like but I can imagine walking though the front entrance and my eyes being drawn all the way through to the rear, maybe catching sight of some potted plants or foliage, maybe even the landscape beyond the terrace itself... I need to calm down but it is exciting ... btw that panelling is very effective given that it is wood and plaster board... very creative.. xx
Ruth, thank you for your comment!!! You have spawned a forthcoming video, The Terraces of Château Avensac! they actually are very very interesting and Phillip will be filming them shortly.

So looking forward to watching you. I've been following Mark on FB, just love his sense of humour.thank you both for sharing your adventure. Love and hugs 😊x
MaryJane, the house is layers of evolutions of each owner, and it is fascinating to discover the different time periods as each consecutive owner added his or her own taste and flair. Thank you!
The wainscotting affect in the front hall is interesting and very pretty. I think putting children in a room with a lot of wine could be fun! I look forward to more videos of your beautiful home, Love from Vermont

Sometimes the less editing the better :) You have an amazing chateau and really looking forward to following your renovations and what I'm sure will be some amazing treasures and finds. Just discovered your channel. Love your château, beautiful. Can’t wait to see what the kitchen will look like, love the tables. You guys are hilarious, love your sense of humour. Great idea for the children’s room, looks perfect! Has anyone told you that you look like Seth Rogan?
Shelley, again thank you! Phillip used to have very long hair and everyone said he was a spitting image for Tom Hulce as Amadeus. Now I will have to update him on his doppelgänger status!!
Thank you for this tour tease! I can’t wait to see more as you move forward after the French vacation month! Mark, it can be difficult to do the commentary on your own & you did a great job. Once Phillip is up and about, he will add his cheeky humour “live”! (soon we hope) cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Lol so the naked boy will stay there? Phillip has done well to not pay attention to it 🤣. Also, will the entrance hall stay the same as far as the colors and style?
Love the chateau! I read somewhere once that there were oil paintings on canvas glued to the walls at Versailles. Also, your lady on the swing painting is reminiscent of The Swing by Fragonard. I hope you don't mind my saying this but, as I recall, The Swing depicts a courtesan on the swing while some guy is looking up her dress. I always thought the rich colors, gaiety and style were beautiful (not passing judgement here). You should put a swing in your garden! Wishing you the best in health and adventure.
OMG … ❤️we have been waiting for you to post videos since we first watch the 1st 9mos ago ! Love the naked statue ! Please take out the wine so we all can drink b4 placing the children in the secret room 😂
jimdon, thank you! I have to think about the wine, drunk children could be rather funny!! LOL, of course I am not serious, the wine stored in there is too good! ha ha ha haaaaaaa. Take care!
Really enjoyed the entrance hall tour and love the idea of turning the billiard room into a reception room. Absolutely love the staircase and the room under the stairs would be perfect as a Harry Potter room for the kids. I know you were joking; but I do see it as a fun addition to that area. Looking forward to more videos.
Just stumbled on your vlogs, can’t wait for more. Love the added captions. Hope all health issues will soon be in the past, as you must be itching to be on site watching your dreams come to fruition. Best wishes Yvonne from Australia

Lovely video!! I was introduced to you guys through the "Chateau Love" channel and glad I found you two. What a lovely place and a very great video. Can't wait to see more renovations!!
like @chateau love I'd go full on Harry Potter if the wine is left there, if you insist on chrildrens room then please move or drink the wine prior to stuffing the kids in there they could harm themselves on the bottles... 🤣 love the little naked boy ! - maybe he could live under the stairs together with the wine...?!
Hanne, Vivienne of Chateau Love already took the first booking of the room under the stairs and I have no doubt that she and Simon will drink all of the wine! LOL... Thank you for your comment!
I've been following you guys on FB for a while now, but was unaware of your YT until now! I'm looking forward to more tours of your beautiful home. Sending good vibes for Mark's continued recovery.
I love these videos! Such a great escape from the work day - thank you for sharing. Philip, that was wonderful, truly. Mark - the comments! Oh, my, how fun! Now I want to know more about the naked boy in the niche! And can we see more of the grounds too and the view out of the gate? You know, for daydreaming material? And I can't wait to see the billiard room! And the children's room? Absolute fave! Toss a few in there for me, will you please? I kid, I kid... :) Mark - so glad to hear you're improving and that the outlook is very positive. Not sure if this is helpful, but I recently had a shoulder injury and ice packs and baths in cold water helped the inflammation. Your doctor has probably already discussed these with you - might not be good for back healing - but it made a huge difference for my rotator cuff tear. Anyway, best wishes to you both. Can't wait to watch the next video!
Robin, Thank you! The naked boy is indeed a strange object. It is a plaster copy of a famous roman copy of a greek statue. The original is 100% naked. This victorian piece has a modesty cloth... I think it would be more fun if he was like the original... The modesty cloth is plaster dipped muslin and I wonder if there is a little pee pee under there??? LOL, our best from France!
What a stunning chateau. Love, love, love the running commentary! And that you are explaining the names and purposes of each room. Maybe throw up the accompanying French terms?
Hello from Arizona, Phillip and Mark! What a wonderful project you have there and looking forward to learning more about it. Thank you for sharing! I just wanted to throw out an idea about keeping frame-size samples of the wonderful wallpapers you uncover as you renovate and remodel, and presenting them as art in the room from which they originated. Cheers!
Hi Kip! We are one step ahead of you and we have a file full of pieces from each room. Well, maybe not each and every room, some were way to Flower Power 1970's and I just could not go there. Our best and thanks from the south of France Thank you for watching and commenting.
I would like to see the bottom of the hall walls and doors be painted black with gold trim to complement the colors in the floor 🖤 That gray throws everything off 😥
Fisher, thank you for mentioning this. We have put a considerable amount of thought into this very issue. Fortunately the room we are looking at moving the billiard table to is directly above the entrance hall and there are three massive beams supporting the floor above. As will be seen in future videos, the room above has a terra cotta floor with a 6" deep layer of sand and lime under the tile, we have discovered first hand (a failing floor in another second floor room) just how massive the weight of the tile and sand is. Our thoughts are to change the room to a wood floor and remove the sand and tile. The amount of weight being removed far out weighs the billiard table. The new billiard room will be open to the grand hall on one side and be dressed like an old gentlemens club. It should be quite lovely and much lighter on the beams! Lol... My sincere best and keep watching for things we may not have considered!!! Mark
Congratulations on your first video. Lovely graphics for the opening. Could you comment on the floor design and material. They look very different from other chateau channels I watch including chateau love, chateau diaries ,Bordeaux life etc. I think that painting does look like a tapestry but initial to me looks more like a J rather than G. Difficult to tell.
Cherie, Thank you for your comment. Phillip will do a special insert take about the floor in the center hall, and we thank you for the question! There is a tie in between the floor and the dining room that is very curious! look for it in the upcoming Dining room video.
Hey guys 🙂 The château is really beautiful. You made a great purchase ! I have just one question : how did you find this place ? I mean : Gers is a quite remote Département of France, and not very famous among tourists and foreigners. So, how did you hear of that area ? Did someone speak to you about Gers and Gascogne ? Or did you make your own research ? 🙂
Helie, We have a very close friend that suggested we come to the Gers as we were looking for unspoiled and very authentic French Countryside... One visit was all it took for us to become hooked. It did not matter where else we looked in France, there would always be a reason why we did not want to live there, until we returned to the Gers and knew that this is where we needed to be. Thank you for asking !
@@atthechateau Your close fried was a very, very good adviser ! And you're in the country of d'Artagnan 😉 Thanks for your answers and have a good evening !
Hurrah! I don't like the naked man either and if I had to live with it near I think I would hate it too. But surely these things are easily sold? Otherwise the entry is beautiful. Interesting that more high end additions were made to the walls later in the chateau's life. I think I'd like it either way - simple or fancy.
Brad, overall, considering it's age, it is in pretty good shape. The terra cotta marble is very hard and sturdy, the black is softer and will need some careful attention in places. Thank you for watching!
Loving the way you give us a tour already! I love getting a thorough look at the room! It's a best entrance hall! Lol so where was that naked boy statue originally placed before you moved him? Will he end up in the Harry Potter bedroom 😂 ? I can't wait to see the salon reception! I had wondered if it was originally a receiving room since it's so close to the entrance. Made sense. The painting is gorgeous. I feel like it needs a fabulous frame around it though! Well done Phillip on the first video! Those candelabras are gorgeous 😍
Luisa, thank you for all the wonderful comments! We found the naked boy tucked away in a storage room, and the pedestal tucked under the stairs. It was obvious by the markings on top of the pedestal, that the statue had been sitting on it for a very long time. The pedestal is painted to match the center hall... so we put it all together and have surmised that this position is where it originally sat for a very long time. :)
Luisa, some how your reply to my reply ended up nested in someone else's comment... so I am replying here... LOL Luisa, the fate of the Naked boy is undetermined! LOL, the entrance hall is of course going to get a make over... the grays that are currently the hall are cool grays, which in turn make the marble floor appear to be black and red, when in reality the red is a beautiful terra cotta color. we are going to warm up and lighten the gray tones, and add 18th century style wall painting panels in the frames that are permanently mounted to the walls. We are also going to add a bit to the plaster trim above the arches. They seem incomplete in that they are just floating in the air. By adding, I mean we are going to bring the plaster work down each side to join the paneled section. This will complete the arched effect and make them more appealing to the eye. Mark
@@atthechateau the plans sound great! I see what your planning in my head. It's funny I couldn't quite figure out what it was that seemed a bit off about the space. I think color was what I was thinking. Once you mentioned warming up the tones....I was like that's it! The floors do seem dark with the very light cool walls. And the arches, yes, would give them more prominence! Thank you for sharing!
Ina, it is currently two shades of grey. We will keep with shades of grey, cut we will use warmer tones to bring out the terra cotta color in the red tiles. Thank you for commenting!
Jamie, I had to look up Chokey, and I assume you mean the room under the stairs... could be, could be! It would actually make a great choke!! Thank you! Lol
Barbara, thank you for the suggestion and I will try looking it up that way... We have tried so many!! lol, but it was so long ago. Thank you watching and commenting!
Hey Stephanie! So lovely to see your name in the comments and I hope you are well!... In answer to your question, we have decided to leave it as it is. :) and... I keep meaning to write back to you (I apologize for not having done so) I wish I had photographs from he singing group, but unfortunately I have absolutely nothing. I will ask Lisa what she may have. Our best wishes to you and hope you are well! Our love Mark and Phillip
Beautiful Entré....I just find the grey panneling, although suttle, quite industrial, cold & not very complementary with the floor...but most important is that you are happy with it. 🌺 no offence ment 🙏
Anita, no offense taken!! It was this way when we purchased the house, it will not be industrial (battleship) gray for long! We need to warm up all of the tones to work with the floor. The floor is really a terra cotta color, but the blue gray walls make it look red. Sigh.... we will get there! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Hi again Elizabeth, or as they say here... Rebonjour ! The grays are not original to the room. We know that this is at least the second set of grays over something else... the something else is mysterious and possibly a dark red black faux marble, but we ay never actually know. Thank you for watching and commenting!!

Stunning!
Robbie, thank you again!
What a stunning chateau. Love, love, love the running commentary! And that you are explaining the names and purposes of each room. Maybe throw up the accompanying French terms?
Patricia, Thank you for your comment! I will get some more of the French names in there as we move forward! Mark
@@atthechateau I was in Healdsburg over the weekend too! So happy to see so many NorCal peeps in the Chateauniverse!
Love from SF!
Our best and thanks from the south of France
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Beautiful floor
Bob, thank you!
I’d love to be a child under those stairs ❤️❤️😘😘
Jimmy... ha ha ha ha! I actually plan to deck it out as Harry Potters room unde the stairs! It will be tres populair!!
@@atthechateau that’s my room. Neil can sleep in a suite.❤️❤️😘😘

Lol
looks like you're muggles 🤣 but I have to confess I like the childrens' room 🤣🤣🤣
elisabeth, we are indeed without powers, but we do make magic!! Lol, thank you!!
I was confused when you said the children’s room because I didn’t see any chains & shackles attached to the walls. 😉
rgrndu, LOL!!! I am now thinking about adding them! :)
😆🤣😂
Beautiful.👍
Agnes, Thank you!
That floor cries out for deep tomes, not the cool shades of that grey. I would move that mirror somewhere where it is more easily seen. It's gorgeous.
Linda, thank you for the comments and I totally agree about the mirror, it is so lost in that spot.
I think you are right about the color tones. The hall is beautiful though.
The gray doesn’t go with the beautiful stairs either.
I would like to see the bottom of the hall walls and doors be painted black with gold trim to complement the colors in the floor 🖤
That gray throws everything off 😥
That is a beautiful picture frame sitting on the floor in the hallway to the left of the stairs
Enjoyed the tour and the comments from the peanut gallery : )
Linda, the peanut gallery thanks you kindly!!!
Marc, the billiard table might be too heavy for the upper floor. You might want to keep this in mind.
Love the children’s room….where did you get your French flags with the République Française sign?
Hi Patrica, from a seller on instagram... If I can find her info I will post it here for you. Merci!!
Hi again Patricia, I bought them from 'Simply_Chateau' on instagram
:)
Thank you….
And you're in the country of d'Artagnan 😉
Thanks for your answers and have a good evening !
Hurrah! I don't like the naked man either and if I had to live with it near I think I would hate it too. But surely these things are easily sold? Otherwise the entry is beautiful. Interesting that more high end additions were made to the walls later in the chateau's life. I think I'd like it either way - simple or fancy.
Paranihia, Thank you for your comment! Phillip is so with you on this one!! he hates the statue. Time will tell! Lol
I love the statue! Goes so well there!
The flooring looks great. Is it?
LOL
Luisa, the fate of the Naked boy is undetermined!
Naked boy in the niche isbeautiful,What a lovley home,
Arne, gotta love a naked boy in a niche! many many thanks!
Wow on entree alone gorgeous. Those tiles are superb,is it the lighting or is that two shades of grey?
Ina, it is currently two shades of grey. We will keep with shades of grey, cut we will use warmer tones to bring out the terra cotta color in the red tiles. Thank you for commenting!
That room is the “Chokey” !!!!!!
Jamie, I had to look up Chokey, and I assume you mean the room under the stairs... could be, could be! It would actually make a great choke!! Thank you! Lol
💯
Helen, again, thank you!!
I don't know if this could help or not but the signature on the painting could be J -B Remon instead of HB?
Barbara, thank you for the suggestion and I will try looking it up that way... We have tried so many!! lol, but it was so long ago. Thank you watching and commenting!
So are going to remove the wainscoting and coordinating decorative trim on the doors? Inquiring minds, ya know.
I love the "children room" I want one🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Alexa, thank you and it is important to note that it has a very large key with which to make sure they stay put! LOL... My best
Mark
Beautiful Entré....I just find the grey panneling, although suttle, quite industrial, cold & not very complementary with the floor...but most important is that you are happy with it. 🌺 no offence ment 🙏
hall d'entrée sorry about that😊
Anita, no offense taken!! It was this way when we purchased the house, it will not be industrial (battleship) gray for long! We need to warm up all of the tones to work with the floor. The floor is really a terra cotta color, but the blue gray walls make it look red. Sigh.... we will get there! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Is the grey or greyish-blue original?
Hi again Elizabeth, or as they say here... Rebonjour !
The grays are not original to the room. We know that this is at least the second set of grays over something else... the something else is mysterious and possibly a dark red black faux marble, but we ay never actually know.
Thank you for watching and commenting!!
