@@SeahorseGames but why? It boosts sales! Just look at how devs of "synthetic" reference sseth in the game now, or how mandalore actually got added into total war warhammer 2 as an NPC
you spent 125 dollars to get a gradient background and coloured squares, you could have just watched a 10 minute tutorial on youtube and got the same result
the gradient background and colored squares are obviously done by me, the art I bought is 4-5 animations for a flag, car, fire and explosion and is also pixelart which is why it cost so much. I should not have bought pixelart since this game isnt that kind of game but that is my only regret towards the art purchase
Well at least you are able to publish your game . I have been developing my game for one year and still I don't know when it will be ready . Congrats on completion of your game
Coming in two years later so I hope you are doing well. I noticed that you posted predominately to game dev subreddits. Perhaps you should have tried communities that were more your audience. Perhaps contracting streamer directly to get them to play etc. Congrats on the launch!
I know this is 2 years ago. But I just wanted to stop by, and say I hope you got more sales. You deserve it. The important thing though. Is that you learned a lot! Congrats!
Oh, I'm feeling the same emotion right now. I made a pretty good game, but I didn't have the energy or ability to promote it for a number of reasons. Now I'm suffering from the fact that I can't get those 10 reviews. If suddenly interested in looking at the game here is the title (Materialization of memories). It may be a bit too much, but I'm pretty sure my game deserves 10 reviews. Always keep a devblog and social media if you're making a game. Don't be as screechy and unfriendly as I am.
The cubes are obviously not drawn by any artist other than me LULW the art I payed for was some explosion animations, finish flag, checkpoint flag, car and fire sprites. It's just a bit more expensive than you'd think
@@SeahorseGames just curious, but isn't there free assets for that on the internet? And I'm confused why the commercial use font costed $109, wouldn't there be a free one that suited your needs, that is for commercial use as well?
There are a lot of assets, but it can be hard to find things that are the correct dimensions, with the correct themes and colors etc. The font was just me being lazy, definitely should have found a free one.
You can rebind the keys to a controller if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it since I haven't found any layout that works and also the hud is not suited for controller
how are you so precise about the time spent , is there any software to record the time or is it just a rought estimate , ? the game is unique , although i guess you spent a bit too much on the font and art , it was not so difficult
This is a great bit of information for an aspiring developer. I'd like to offer a bit of information, though, fonts, like graphics and music, can be very easily(assuming that you're fairly decent with graphic design) created for free with programs like inkscape or gimp and a web based program called calligraphr. I just recently used it to design a font for my game in a few hours with aseprite, gimp, and calligraphr.
Problem is that I'm fairly awful at graphic design. The font was definitely a waste though. But good music is not something you can create easily, that takes some real skill.
@@SeahorseGames that is true. Being a composer by trade I can't really speak on it, though, as writing melodies and harmonies has become second nature to me. @@ismiregal6986 Haha what do you mean? I’m writing my bachelor thesis right now so can’t really do game dev that much (and if I do I’ll stream it on twitch live). When I have something to show on this channel I will
Last time I checked I was at about $500 in gross rev, there is a 6month revenue update for this game on my channel (you’re gonna have to scroll a bit though 😅) but not much has changed since then. The game still sells like 10 copies everytime it goes on sale but the recent sales are at 80% so I don’t get a lot from it :) I did make another steam game though, that one did way better
@@SeahorseGames Nice. I am working on what I would call a... "joke" game using parts of an engine I've been working on since 2022. Got caught in the trap of "if you make an engine, you won't make a game". So re-using components from the engine to make a silly game that scrambles images and you have to guess which one is which. I am not confident that what I have is something that could break even after the 100 dollar steam fee. But thinking I should power through and polish it anyways. Do you think Steam is a good platform for this type of indie games? I want to focus on more simple skill games but I have set my eyes on mobile dev. I wouldn't sell the game it would be free but with ads and maybe IAPs. Have you considered mobile dev as an alternative?
I think my game might look more like a mobile game but the gameplay itself would be very hard to implement there, I’m still looking at ways to make it work on mobile for a possible future port.
