    Hello. Great channel.
Are these 2 products the best you provide for reducing airborne sound from below, & if so, which is the more effective?
If the thickness of these products is not an issue but the effectiveness is the priority, can SoundScreed 25 be installed over existing floorboards to add even more soundproofing protection & would that be the better option? Thanks.

Hi SonOf Leif, you can use SoundScreed 25 over existing floorboards which would give a higher performance due to it having more mass then SoundScreed 28. (Depending on your noise issue). Please feel free to contact us to discuss it in more detail and we can advise accordingly (01423) 206208.

Hi, I’m a DIYer so I have a few questions sorry. Firstly, how do the screed boards attach to each other, would you acoustic sealant/ glue join on all 4 sides, or are they joined dry without any joining material. Secondly, the room I’m intending to use the screed board in is an open plan kitchen living room, would the screed boards need to go under all the kitchen cabinets to be effective, or would I have adequate sound reduction by just going up to the bases of the kitchen cabinets? Thirdly, and lastly, would there be any benefit to installing screed board if I don’t install acoustic mineral wool between the joists? Thank you

Hi Jamie Orme - Thanks for your questions. Firstly you can download full step by step instructions from here - www.soundproofingstore.co.uk/soundscreed28 But to answer your question quickly, the overlap joins are adhered with a suitable joint adhesive, no mechanical fixings needed. Every case is different, in some cases the mass of the units themselves stops sound from travelling through those areas so clients will just install up to them. But in a perfect world you want to cover the entire floor to minimise any risk of sound leaking through. In regards to the mineral wool. There are several different things that we need to try and do to achieve good soundproofing. Mineral wool does a completely different job to the SoundScreed boards. So the SoundScreed will certainly still do its job and reduce some sound without wool, but your results will be limited if you don't use the wool as well as you still need to solve that problem.

Phil, random question: If you have kids and live in a condo and you're getting dirty looks from your neighbor under you from the kids stomping, what would you recommend? Is there anything that will absorb the impact and eliminate the stomping sound transmission?

Hi Brian, our recommendation would be something like the ProSound SoundMat 3 Plus or Reverso SoundMat (please see below videos). The final floor finish can also make a big difference. For example, hard floor finishes will increase the impact noise heard below compared to using a soft finish such as carpet (which helps to absorb footfall energy at the source).
