Imagine 'Influencers' trying 'sell' youtube videos on "10 hacks for cheap waterproofing!!"
There are no hacks for 'proofing' something, there are however hacks/bodges for acoustic 'treatment' such as DIY acoustic panels made from rockwool or as Phil mentions in the video, the use of soft furnishings to soak up some of the reverb in the room.
The issue is people use 'sound proofing' and 'acoustic treatment' interchangeably as if they are the same thing.

Hi Leon, thats exactly right. Our main target with this video was the amount of blogs and articles that pop up in our news feeds about cheap and easy soundproofing. They are mostly written by people like interior designers who have absolutely no knowledge or expertise in the complex science of sound. The articles tell people to use carpet or blankets and things to stop noise from neighbours.

I have 54sq meter property that’s poorly designed and neighbours can hear neighbours. I need to soundproof the inner shell of the flat and its floor. What is the thinnest and densest boards or rubber to use. Ceiling to floor is 250cm and I’d still like to insert shallow spots. Walls are brick that I will take down, leaving a single skin outer walls and cement floors and ceilings.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Hi @anonymousm1718, there is a lot to cover off here, so please do feel free to call us and we can discuss this in more detail with you [phone]. A brick wall is solid and adds more mass to help block airborne noise, so taking it down will only reduce this capability. Also, the fact that concrete naturally has more mass than e.g. timber, means it usually does a better job of naturally blocking airborne noise. Because this isn't the case, you ideally need to find out why (again we can help advise on this). This blog might be of interest:

You got it! Soundproofing is incredibly complex, there is no easy, cheap way of doing it. But unfortunately lots and lots of bad advice out there that people fall for.
