You do realise Dubai is in a literal desert right? All of the Arab Oil States are in the hottest places in the world, I don't blame them for wanting more cars with air conditioners instead of walking under the desert sun. Especially when Europeans were complaining about the heat a month ago
I realise the clue is in the name for this channel, but I'd sometimes love to see urban projects that aren't targeted at the ultra wealthy. Sure, you've mentioned some public transport and green spaces etc in this one which would benefit everyone, but it would be nice to see more examples of money being spent to benefit the average citizen (not just in Dubai, anywhere). I enjoy watching these to hear about the technology and design involved more than the unnecessary luxury of a lot of the hotels and resorts.
it's hard, because mega projects are expensive, and they want to get their money's worth + Dubai targets wealthy individuals, so it wouldn't make sense to do mega projects for average individuals when the whole city is for the wealthy, except for education, transportation, and Greenland.
The coral reef and plantation make sense for Dubai but the rest are just targeted for the rich and unlike Atlantis, Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab. They are just ridiculous ideas to prove they have a lot of money but doesn't have really any impact on humanity. As a past resident in Dubai, the traffic is a huge issue and people cannot live without a car in Dubai unless they live and work near a metro station which is rarely. The idea for the transportation is to be connected to other nearby cities such as Sharjah, Ajman and even Abudhabi so the population can be distributed properly since Dubai is so small to have 3 million people. I would also like to see their plan on the plant house and how they are going to face the desertation as its a major problem in the UAE.
The loop is for everyone to use, the railways and development of the urban cities are for everyone, which one of the projects you saw here was for the rich? Burj al Arab and Atlantis are luxurious hotels not mega projects so yeah they are gor rich people, and Burj Khalifa is a business center. Most of these mega structures if not all are for the improvement of the entire city and everyone living in it. Except for the moon thing which I don't get the purpose of honesty.
Thank you always great video. As resident in Dubai I am aware they launch MEGA Projects every month also for marketing purpose ( I remember ALADIN CITY DUBAI for example) so everyone talk.. anyway the City is really growing good now and construction sector is probably the first source of investment . Dubai really is the city of the future !
The only thing is likely to be build is the new urban center (new neighborhoods) and the rail system. the rest of the major projects is more sky scrapers. and maybe the walking project.

I worked on an industrial project in Dubai for 6 weeks in 2005. The city is impressive but at the same time paradoxical. On the one hand they are trying to put marine life straight but on the other want to create a 20km enclosed, air conditioned walkway that isn't really necessary. What will be the carbon footprint of the latter?
Problem I have is that Dubai like the rest of the Middle East is built using the sweat of labour which they treat as salves paying the absolute minimum wages possible.

Its the choice of these people to go there and do the work. Why do they do it? because there is nothing for them where they coming from....At least they earn some money now and can provide for their family.
They only started the Dubai creek tower to challenge the Jedda tower, when they stopped Dubai stopped, and they still hold the title, spend the money only when a challenger comes along.
Supposedly because even the Burj Khalifa almost wasn't completed... originally it was going to be called until Burj Dubai... some "generous" individual did a deal to finish it for some reason... I can't recall off hand what those details were about that deal other than a change to the skyscraper's name to the person who paid to finish it off.
Basically, they have money and they are hiring european engineers, architecture and scientists who have technology and expertise. The point is europe is not developing these type of projects itself tells lot of the future of these projects.
Given a handful of VERY high profile proposals and developments within Dubai being completely scrapped & abandoned the past 10-15 years, let’s wait & see on all of this and instead check back on all of these current proposals within the coming years…
I always feel as if Dubai is a fascinating city but just in the wrong geographical place. An economy so dependent on fossil fuels, so much electricity needed to cool down in order to make it bearable for the people living there, not a lot of natural water resources, very car dependent, sand for the infrastructure must be imported. This all creates a very fragile and unsustainable system coupled with attention seeking megalomania projects that often sound too ambitious and too good to be true
Those are the cards they were dealt and they're doing their best to shine. What's the alternative ? Bring their investments to your European city so you can have a better life than them ?
I mean it's their country what should they do? Immigrate? To where? They're using their money to make their lives better and they welcome everyone to come live there. Also most of these projects are being built to be completely dependent on renewable energy as it's said in the video.
Nature reserves definitely appeal more to me than massive skyscrapers. Pictures of Dubai look really creepy to me, because it just looks so grey and beige.
"30 billion on future megaprojects? Dubai's really taking 'go big or go home' to a whole new level. Can't wait to sip my iced tea on that climate-controlled walking highway! 😂🌇 #OnlyInDubai"
Honestly Dubai has some impressive projects but the problem with Dubai in general is that its not really built for people.
