The story behind Kick Safe: I created the game back in the 1990s in Portland, Oregon. I wanted to create a game that allowed me and my friends to work on our safeties and kicks in a competitive type match.
It was initially created to be a ring game played by 3-8 players (or more). When we started playing it as a ring game we realized that you can't use a normal scoring system. For instance, if you have three strong players and one weak player, the strong player that goes before the weak player would gain many points quickly which puts the other players at a disadvantage. Using a backward scoring system, the weaker player is eliminated once they reach a certain number of points. The player that eliminated this player would deduct 1 point from their score (if they have 0, they would have -1).

I would love to see Efren play this game. He would play some crazy shots.
Damn, this 5 part video has been my life these past few days. Bustsmante with the comeback!
A Thanksgiving miracle. These are priceless and I cannot WAIT to see more. Thank you so much for putting this on!
Guys, this was incredible. More of this PLEASE!!
As a carom watcher, I really like this game and would like to see more matches. I'd only suggest calling the points 'strikes' or something similar to denote their negative value.
Could probably just call them fouls. First to seven fouls loses.
I like calling them ‘penalty points’. You ‘miss’ or ‘foul’ and then get a ‘penalty point’. That has proven well understandable and intuitive when introducing someone to the game.
How is this not a common exhibition match? This game was awesome, and the commentary was awesome. PLEASE let's do this again with various matchups!
Oh my world, this is just increadible. I am learning so much. Please get Efren on this sometime.
I don't think anybody would ever agree to play him for money in this game 🤣
If only this game was out when Efren was at his prime. We would have so much fun watching him .
@@aceliu5997 i agree with you but don't underestimate the master. He still got this. It should be happening Right now this year or next
Thank you for uploading. I've been following these videos everyday.
FANTASTIC LEVEL OF SKILLS. CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH PLAYERS
Need more matches like this alex pagulayan jayson shaw
Trees were taller when I start watching this match. What a rollercoaster, keep it coming!
Awesome! Absolutely awesome! LOVE this format!!
this is so sick! thank you for the upload! masterclass lesson in safety play! i love when ra gets giddy over the skills 😂😂 and no ads! happy thanksgiving! i'm thankful for no ads too 🙏🏼 ☺️
bro this is my new game next time i get to play
@@johngraves1216 happy thanksgiving brother! yeah man some day we gotta jam this 👋🎱👄🎱🤚
That was a top notch! Looking forward to seeing more. Congrats Bustie.
Good stuff! Thanks for the upload.
Great videos. I live in the Philippines and looking forward to introducing it to some very good players where I live. Thanks
Thank you this was wonderful
AWESOME GAME!!! LOVE IT!!! Good commentators as well.
Both played great. Super fun and educational to watch. I think Shane out smarted himself in the five or six points of the match, especially the last point. Either way, great match. We need more matches like this - not just kick safe but other games.
Wonderful game!
Is denzel Washington the commentator?
no
THAT WAS UNREAL!!!
Great match!
I agree with every one else you gotta get Efren in one of these. ! His Chess, and Billiard head would produce wonders in a game like this.!
amazing last match.
Great match
Oh my god
I almost gone crazy watching those 2 legend. They're so unpredictable like what the match turned into. This is so much fun to watch with so many ups and downs for both players. I never thought it would take long like going hill to hill😱😱OMG.
I thought it was gonna end at 3rd set but shit happens. I guess everyone would love to see the magician reyes do this kind of stuff
Awesomeness!!!!!!!!!
I'm thankful for this. Lol
I don't play pool, but this is some next level of safety exchanges
smash the like button ppl..this is amazing stuff
What if the one can not be hit leagally like if it is surounded by other balls is it a rerack?
Awesome! Just trying to think of who I want to see next... Reyes-Filler? Thorpe-Shaw?
Efren is getting old, and that shows sometimes in long shots etc. But from what I've seen of him, Filler likes to take chances, and when it comes to pocketing balls it works most of the time, but when it comes to safeties it might really hurt him. Don't get me wrong I like Filler, but he shines at pocketing balls, and in this game, against Efren, who has the best cue ball control I've seen, and who knows a million and one safties and twice as many ways to escape from them... I just see the games going 1) Filler takes a chance and makes a mistake 2) Efren leaves him with 7 impossible shots in a row. Filler is definitely a great player and he's starting to work on other games like one pocket where it's more than just pocketing balls, but he still has probably less than half the knowledge that Efren does. Filler will have to be creative and imagine some shots, Efren on the other hand has already played and made said shots. The amount of kick-safes Efren has shot is probably more than the total amount of shots Filler has shot. Give Filler 15-20 years and he might catch up.
And if you compare with Efren in his prime I don't think anyone would even hope to beat him in this particular game. All the weakest elements in Efren's game are not relevant to this game and his strongest are most relevant here. If this was invented 20 years ago it would be called Efren's game.
@@mitkoraichev3187 Completely agree... this game was designed for him! Really hope we see a lot more of it!
Many top players are great shooter, but least has godlike kick safe ability like Reyes...
Nice...
Interesting game... very fun tho. Can i ask when was this filmed?
this was played in july 2017
@@packerzfan85 Dang, really?
Did anyone notice at the start of game 4 only 2 balls hit the rail on the break? The rules were 3 balls.
i love the safe part but dont understand spotting the one ball and so on can anyone please explain
If you make a ball it’s spotted. Point of the game is to force your opponent to foul by playing safes. Making balls does nothing in terms of score but can be used for strategic value. First to 7 points means 7 fouls. So essentially you want to have your score zero. Hope this helps. Also I could be wrong but this is what I understand to the best of my knowledge.
fantastic! now Efren here! lets gather money together for it! :)
I would pay to see Efren play this with Earl or anyone.
WOW I Luv this kick shot game. If Efren at his prime will dominate this game
Efren vs Busti next!!!!!!
Even efren s older this 2 great player can challlenge efren f theres another promo like this any american vs efren s gd to watch
whos the master of kicksafe again???
Wasn't that an illegal break? The 3 and the 8 hit the rail, but with the cue ball preventing the 2 from hitting the side and then stopping just short of the end rail, there's no 3rd ball hitting a rail.
Or does the cue ball count too?
Rule says 3 balls must hit the rail. Cue ball is still a ball so i believe the cue ball is part of it.
Cmon svb.......oh well hes still my fav
This series just made a bunch of pretty good pool players lose a lot of confidence lol. The level of safeties and kicks here was insane!
At the 44min mark Bustie sunk the 1 but did not kick or contact a rail. Wouldn't that have been a point?
23:27 bad or good hit?
If it's too close to tell, tie goes to the shooter. This is too close to tell without a slow motion camera.
30:18 you could just take an intentional foul and roll the 8 up on the 1, leaving no route to the 1
That would of been the move.
So here is what I don't understand. The shot before SVB won that 4-pack, when Bustamante saw that there was a very, very little chance he could hit that ball, why didn't he just take the foul and break up that mess so that SVB could keep on capitalizing on it to win that 4-pack?
Make sense, but maybe sometimes people want to challenge themselves? Or maybe he thought he didn't want to take away the "safe" spot, he could probably use the same spot to trap his opponent back should he not foul?
I think there was an unspoken rule that they would have to at least try to kick at the ball rather than just break them up and take a penalty. They kind of mentioned it early on in the commentary in video 1 or 2.
Philippine numbah 1👌🏼😇
Surprise!
you really can tell they were bias commentating this, haha Busty got the last laugh!
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but did Buste only put two balls to the rail on the final break? And would that be a foul? They said 3 balls to the rail on the break. And the match went hill hill..... did he really win? Look at 5 minutes on this video.
I asked the same question above, still waiting for confirmation. I wondered if in this game format they count the cueball. Doubtful, but that's the only way 3 balls hit the rail on this break.
I guess they count the cue ball? The eight and three both hit the rail and the two had the momentum to get there, but instead kissed the cue ball into the rail.
took me a month to finish. shorter point total would be easy on my 9 ball brain.
I get the basics of this game. Does anyone know where I can find the rules? This is gold for me as APA 5. I thinking of trying that break on Leauge night... (no push outs) free ball in hand
Kicksafe rules are linked in the video description. On the linked page, scroll down almost to the bottom to find the rules.
dont get it.. im so beginer hufftt
It´s a game called Kick-Safe and seems to be a rather recent invention. Rules are linked in the video description (almost on the bottom of the linked page). Basically, they always have to hit the one ball first. Who misses or scratches gets a penalty point. Key to winning is hitting the one-ball while leaving a difficult safety for your opponent.
I think SVB made a foul at 23:30
Nope. Easy way to tell too. Watch the 6 ball. IF he hit the 6 first, it would have followed the tangent line off the 4 ball and went towards the 9 ball. But it didn’t. It went towards the 2 ball. This happened because he hit the 1 first, then the cue ball deflected and hit the 6 from the side, sending it straight across the table.
Calling good hits isn’t only about seeing what ball is hit first. You need to also understand physics and what is possible for the balls to do.
Now when Bustamante kicked the 1 ball and it hit the 3 ball and it was questionable on wether it hit the rail. I don’t think it did. The ball never changed direction. As in, from going towards the rail to going away from it. And it wasn’t resting on the rail when it stopped either. If you look at the referees face, I believe this also confirms this.
@@KK-sg5gl replay it on 0.25x :) do you never spin balls? Add some touch of "English"? It may cause the ball to not act like it normally would... And btw I'm not the only one commenting on his foul on this video btw, from normal view it's almost like the cue ball hitting the one ball and the green ball simultaneously, but if look carefully, it should've been a foul...
@@amoldivo, uhhh...we know the ball is only rolling by the way he hit it. There is no spin on the cue ball other than top and maybe a slight left or right after traveling over 10 feet and contacting a rail.
Run each scenario through your head. Imagine you are the cue ball, and you’re rolling towards the stack of balls. If the 6 is struck first, where would it go? It would obviously strike the 4 ball next, and follow the tangent line. That’s the only physically possible thing it could do. It does not do that. It is physically impossible, until the end of time, that it could travel towards the 2 ball, which it did, if it was struck first.
I challenge you to take this scenario to anyone rated above 720 Fargo and ask them. Also show them my comment and ask them again. Then I challenge you to ask a traveling pro, or a BCA referee instructor.
@@KK-sg5gl I challenge you to rewatch the video in slow motion... I saw it missed on normal playback, rewind 2-3 times and still sure it's a miss :)
How is 31:48 a legal shot despite what the commentator says? Appears no ball touches a rail after first contact with the one ball.
It's not, in my opinion. Unless that 1 ball was not frozen to the rail, only then would be legal hit.
Why not just give the person that shot the ball the point...what's the point of doing it backwards... Just gonna confuse people
Hi, this is from the description above: It was initially created to be a ring game played by 3-8 players (or more). @@ZeroXBilliards I would just recommend calling them fouls instead. Just to cut down the confusion.
At 23:27 SVB makes a foul. Easy to see the 1 ball isnt the first ball he hits..
Reyes would never be allowed to join. 😅😅
Ik this is completely random and unrelated but around 31:00 you can hear the guy in the background so scared to cough. Trying desperately to suppress it. And holding in a cough only makes it a lot worse. But unfortunately im sure he’s concerned with the idiots that might comment and basically shame him for coughing. And maybe even those around him might shit their pants out of paranoia. Remember people, covid or not, coughing is fucking normal and has alllllways been around. Its a COUGH for gods sake. What a fucking time. Cant cough without getting idiotic comments and sideways looks. How shitty.
Efren would smash either one of these players
23:20 was a bad hit. 4 ball first
Looked simultaneous to me, in which the ref would not call foul
Nope. Easy way to tell too. Watch the 6 ball. IF he hit the 4 ball first, the cue ball would hit the 1 ball next, and the 6 ball wouldn’t move. It’s physically impossible. IF he hit the 6 first, it would have followed the tangent line off the 4 ball and went towards the 9 ball. But it didn’t. It went towards the 2 ball. This happened because he hit the 1 first, then the cue ball deflected and hit the 6 from the side, sending it straight across the table.

@@KK-sg5gl I was not saying he hit the 6 ball first. That would have been much more obvious. I was saying he hit the four ball first. Unfortunately, the it splits the frame rate and occurs in between frames where we cannot get a 100% clear picture. It was definitely not a simultaneous hit as the sound of a year two distinct contacts.
@@loganharrington6017, check out my reply. If he hits the 4 ball first, it’s impossible for the 6 ball to move, as it’s above the 4. The cue ball would hit the 1 ball after the 4, and the 6 would never move. Read my first reply carefully, as I address both possibilities.
@@KK-sg5gl well explained. I concur, thanks.
As an aside, since you seem to know your stuff, I would appreciate hearing your ruling on my question in the comment I made yesterday?
