  • Remember: Safety is your responsibility. I DO NOT recommend that you use this method to increase your table saw rip capacity. In retrospect, I wish I had done it differently. I wanted to make some cuts on a table top of a dog kennel end table. The cuts were beyond the limits of the table saw rip fence so I came up with a solution.

I like how you said there is " a right way, a wrong way, and my way". I subscribe to that same philosophy. I think I would have done something similar to what you did to make those cuts. At the end of the day it all boils down to analyzing the risk, taking reasonable precautions, and executing the plan. Nice job all in all and the table top turned out pretty nice 😁

That is well said. Taking precautions and evaluating risk helps define a plan of action. Hopefully it is a good plan. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Another great video my friend. I wish I had seen your mallet video prior to christmas, that would have been on my tree.
Thanks for sharing this video with us as well.
    Keep up the fun videos.

Thanks Dale. That mallet pattern can be found on the Married Man Woodworking Facebook page. You can copy and size it to the size you want before printing. I made it smaller and made a mallet keychain for a recent giveaway. I am going to be releasing the video soon. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

The idea of a larger table is great, well done! I have a little jobsite table saw and want to build a lot of cabinets... with a lot of repetitive size cuts. The task has felt daunting thinking of measuring, clamping and cutting over and over again with a circular saw. Not only would it be time consuming and tedious, but impossible to keep the kind of tolerances I'd be happy with.
I think if the table and fence was sized with some more infeed it could work great. Thank you for the inspiration to help solve this problem!

More infeed for sure. I have been contemplating a new design with larger surface to be able to batch out larger tops for dog kennel tops to sell. I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment.

I agree that circ saw then the router would've done the same thing a little easier and safer but, hey, it's easy being an arm-chair quarterback! Sure turned out nice and I enjoyed watching. I have the same saw also and just upgraded to a POWERTEC 71005 Deluxe table saw miter gauge from Home Depot for $35. It really made a huge difference and I love the saw even more now. Thanks.

I have the same saw. Probably would have used the straight edge/router idea that you mentioned at end of video. Found your page by the link that Woodcraft 716 provided. I'm usually on the Live Edge chat on Tuesdays, I've seen your name on there. Just subscribed, now to binge watch some MMW videos! Good luck growing your channel! :)

Thanks. I really appreciate Mike at Woodcraft 716 highlighting this channel on his video. I also really enjoy the growing community on Live Edge Tuesday nights. Keep making sawdust.

Great job committing to this jig and making it all the way through. Thanks MM!

@@MarriedManWoodworking of course! I saw another comment about the cross-cut sled, so I left that alone. But also it's not like I'm an experienced woodworker yet. I just know what it feels like to get hit in the bicep with a kick back! LOL. It's why I'm Sawless in Seattle at the moment until I can get my restoration project going after I post my current vid, hopefully tonight after work!

Thanks for the video. I was debating doing something like this but I think I’ll just use my circular saw with a straight edge. I’m new to using a table saw so I’ll play it safe until I get more comfortable with it. I like the channel name, reminds me of Steve Ramsey’s channel WWMM.

I would have glued and screwed a piece that fits the miter slot to the table board, thus eliminating the need for the left hand side clamps.but clamp it with the right hand clamps. then you would have only needed to cut 1 time.

In retrospect, I believe you are correct. Thank you for watching and the comment.

I like your thought process. I've been struggling with the same thing. 24-in rip capacity when I'd really like closer than 36.

It looks like it would have been more convenient to make a large cross-cut jig. When you were pushing the first cut, the board was twisting slightly. It could have been dangerous if it would have twisted enough to catch the trailing edge of the blade.

I believe you are correct. I will definitely find a different way next time. Thanks for watching.
