- The great painter Lucian Freud was a complicated, secretive man. Fleet Street editor Geordie Greig was a friend and learnt some of the artist's personal stories: escaping from Nazi Europe; hiding from the Krays; painting the Queen; his attitude to a vast number of lovers and innumerable children. The resulting biography, Breakfast with Lucian, is full of fascinating insights, but might it be too intrusive? Who better to interrogate Greig than Lynn Barber, interviewer extraordinaire, whose early memoir, An Education, was made into a major film and whose new instalment, A Curious Career, is a portrait of the celebrities she has met.

Great interview. Yet I can't help thinking, that we're listening to stories about a very remarkable painter, while having to view in the background, some really awful, awful painting. It's a bit distracting....

So why would ghislaine be into this ?
Its a bit tit for tat, for my liking. The mention of Freud's nipple pinching (If its even true?) And thing's getting creepy whilst painting a daughter, I don't quite buy. But then again, he''s gotta sell books, right? Lucian Freud was a very, very great man, a driven man. There's nothing like the Painter's struggle - Words can'not express. And, i'm thankful I'll never understand him.
Barber is an old drunk sounding (she's not posh - she's slurry) who went out with Howard Marks, a drug smuggler.
and is brilliant at her work. It's nice that you pointed out that she is an 'old' drunk rather than a 'young' one.
