drinking in Jaywick's roughest pub! - ua-cam.com/video/LbcgsCSL3Is/v-deo.htmlsi=MAgD6JivzEyrygtI
For a future video, consider going to the top end of Walsgrave road in Coventry! It's a big road - go closer to the town centre, then can venture to the town after. I lived there before I moved abroad... Ropy is the word that comes to mind. (one of the main reasons I moved abroad) Would be an interesting visit.
Head to the southwest coat.. town called Bridport, there's a pub called Hope&Anchor.. right old dog of a swiller.
I lived in Bradford for about 5 years .. best thing I ever did was leaving.. what an utter utter fucking shit hole

@@jacksonfrenchii8080 most grooming gangs in the UK are white British. Most sexual crimes committed against British children are by white British men.
If you don’t believe me go look at what the home office report says. As for the rest of your thinly veiled racist bigoted nonsense. I’ve heard it 1 million times before. It all sounds like GB News headlines, Daily Mail headlines, the Sun newspaper headlines and the daily Telegraph headlines. You’re just a parrot parroting right-wing crap. Most of the British people don’t align with your views and your values or should I say lack there of. Hence why the Tories are getting annihilated and hence why reform uk aren’t doing anywhere as near as well as they would hope to be. Look what happened to UKIP. They never won one seat in parliament, and they disbanded. There are Muslims in the British Armed Forces willing to die for this country. There are Muslims in the NHS and care homes who were on the front line throughout the pandemic, saving British peoples lives. Immigrants contribute billions to the British economy every year. Take immigrants out of the UK and the country would grind to a halt. End of story.

Bradford winning the culture award says a lot that the award is a load of bollocks.
Australian here.I went to England in 2004. The pubs were like stepping back in time to another world. They mostly had a cosy atmosphere.
Wouldn't be a modern City without some random African aggressively screeching away.
Wouldn’t be the uk without some racist numb nut making comments like yours.
Screeching 🤣👌🏻
only the one? lucky day that

Shame it's shut. Looked a right boozer. Cheers pal 👍
Always a pleasure to watch these videos. I'm looking forward to your next adventure.
Cheers mate, really appreciate it 👍
Went to university there in the early 00s. It wasn't the best then, doesn't look like much has improved. 150 years ago it would have been absolutely thriving and the architecture in the city centre is a reminder of that era.
John seems like a really nice guy.
Was sound
Sad fact is that most "pubs" nowadays are chain brands meaning that the days of "rough pubs" (As in "the local" everyones knows thats been on the same street for five hundred years) will soon come to an end.

The dubliner.."its an Irish bar innit " blinding bit of detective work !
Yeah I enjoy the look around these places but our host seems to be as sharp as a beach ball. Still we can't all be Prof Brian Cox I guess.
He kind of reminds me of like a pound shop Ross Kemp "it was all looking like it was about to kick off" etc.
Pans camera around a box standard sports bar "bet it gets a bit tasty in ere on a Saturday night". 🙄
Right. why did he even find it necessary to say that at all, unless that is a potential problem for him ?
Bloody hell...didn't expect to hear Mazzy Star in that sports bar! 🤣
I was thinking the same thing 🤣. Wouldn’t have thought I would hear Mazzy Star in any pub in Bradford to be honest 😜
Went there most days a week last year for work, I like the place but the driving and parking standards round there are on another level ! Lot of interesting characters, have to watch yourself and keep an eye on things though.
I live here but will be leaving in due course, my children have left with their mother already but yeah what a chit hole and its only getting worse, the police do not enforce much of anything anymore 😅

The best pub in Bradford was the New Beehive but I'm sorry to see it's closed down. It had gas lighting, a coal fire in each room, a huge selection of proper beers and wood floors. A great place to spend an evening with friends.
Now the scene of geezers stabbing mums with prams
You walked past the City Vaults twice. Best boozer in the centre when I was last there. You went in what used to be the Old Crown on Ivegate. If those walls could’ve told you some tales you’d ‘ve run a mile or stayed for more!
Some great rough bars in Bristol - the Long Bar, cheap rough cider, in Bedminster, the Apple Tree, Barley Mow and Grosvenor. The Apple Tree closes around 6pm - the locals are too pissed to drink any more by then! Old scrumpy bars are getting very rare - go while you can!
What was up with that "head-nodding" guy? Probably expected someone to start an argument with him. A lot of town centres are dodgy, rare for someone to just come up and start a friendly conversation.
Who knows mate, had me baffled 🤣
He’s a dealer , it’s like a nod for do you want some coke . You either get it or you don’t lol

I remember when I was 16 going into the town for the first time, we started in the bridge at the bottom of bowling old line, then to the town centre, the old empress, the old crown and Yates down ivegate and then the sackville arms followed by the county bar, I moved away from Bradford when I saw it going down the drain, such a shame for a once proud city. I won’t even drive through it now. It looks a horrible scruffy place going nowhere. Thank god I got out all them years ago. I suppose you don’t see it when you live there.
The googly eyes on the Alan Shearer poster behind you made my day...

If you'd gone in the opposite direction from the ginger goose up to The queen's, that's a proper old man's pub and cheap as chips.on your upcoming (or maybe you've already done it) trip to the Krays pubs,a word of advice the landlord of the pub they bought their mum, hates anyone asking about the history or talking about it,he's turned it into a gentrified poncy bar👍

The Drum Winder where they openly drug deal drugs in the alleyway next to it, that whole 200m of Ivegate street is a real eye opener. But Ive always liked and felt comfotable in Bradford, one of a tiny majority that actually prefers it to Leeds.

As someone who has had to drop the booze for myself (and everyone around me), Thankyou for mentioning the zeros are still a nice drink to have. Was a massive bastard when I stopped drinking, Go to grandmas wake, ask for an OJ and lemonade and they gave me OJ and tonic. Honestly, fuck that pub I will never go back. They almost fucked up my day (and potentially more... It's a hard sell to get a drunk like myself to go to a pub and not have a beer). All I wanted was a nice drink whilst sitting with the fam and it was like they were spitting me for it.
Cheers bro.
They have come a long way the alcohol free ones pal. Good on ya for cutting it, mugs game if you're on the sesh. Guinness 0.0 is mega pal, peroni also. But people still think you're weird not drinking...it's a shame
Left Bradford in March 2006. Moved with my family to Perth,Western Australia. For some reason we have never thought about returning
Bradfords only good for drinking or food festival . Rest of it’s an S hole .
But the bouncers was bit of dheads to me in that pub with the dealer outside you went in . so not been back since cba with bouncers who are bored so pick on people who are from out of town and hope to get a reaction out of you
Bradford is a lot nicer than I thought it was, some nice buildings there. Can't wait to see the Kray twins pubs in your next vid
More listed buildings than York. This is a true fact.
40 years ago The Old Crown was a dive strippers and dirty, full of rough, toilets smelt and had fungus growing on the walls, Boy and Barrel was an old pub Victorian, The pub next to it was a bit rough also. Many of the pubs have closed or been taken over by corporate business chains, Yates was good, Shoulder of Mutton and Rams Revenge also.
John is cool . Never been to Bradford ( I was in East is East ) set there but i filmed my part in W London . Bradford has got some nice architecture! I really like the accent :)
actually Bradford looks amazing so does the pubs, I am impressed!
You wouldn't be if you came
I've worked in Bradford a number of times over the years and the city centre has improved particularly since a lot of the brutalist 70's architecture has been removed, though the anodyne stuff which has replaced it is still no match for the Victorian architecture of old. Haven't had a drink in the same since my Bradford College (16-18 yrs old) days in the mid 80's when we used to visit all the supposed rough house pubs in the city centre of the time and with never an issue.
How much is a quid in USD? No disrespect meant, I love the videos. I'm only curious because in every video you labor over the beer prices when they're all in that 3-5 range. In this video 3.50 vs 4.50 sounds like no real difference at all.
Love the channel! Come to Glasgow and go to some of the pubs around the schemes.
Bradford is a great. Lived here 17 years. Some of the most welcoming people (of all colours and creeds) I've ever met. Despite the issues of poverty and the council trying to butcher what's left of the City centre and outer estates, we all try and stick together in the struggle. Some awesome eating spots too. Outsiders love to knock us (particularly evident in the UA-cam comments section and local paper) but they have no clue what goes on.

Christ £2.50 for a Guinness. Believe it or not a pub in my village just started charging £7.25 for a fairly shite one. I'd say come down south for some boozers but the prices might scare you off. You want to see some proper rough places go for a few in Hastings, Herne Bay or if you're feeling brave Chatham. All the decent grimy pubs have been driven out of places like Brighton these days.
Same in my village boozer like 7.80 a pint, and they wonder why they're empty.
Mad that! It's so bizzare the price difference. I get places are more expensive but the price jump that much makes no sesne
@@honestplaces Honestly its all down to people moving down from London, our village went from 2,000 people 25 years ago and shot up to around 6,500 by 2021 census. I dread to think how many it is now they've added nearly a thousand houses on the outskirts of the village. Everyone living here now has a new build they cant afford, a brand new car on tick, a rolex from watches of switzerland also on tick and they are happy to spend way over the odds on a beer in the 'cool pub'. Its mad the number of people you come across who never visited the village before buying a house, they sell so quick they just commit to it online and then come down.

You've been to Bradford at least 5 times in the last 2 years...
Just like Charlie Veitch who has also visited Bradford at least 5 or 6 times in the last 2 years, but doesn't realise where he is most of the time, as his Geography knowledge is poor.
This massive homelessness problem is a recent thing. It wasn't like this 5 years ago. There were only around 5-10 homeless people that you'd see on a regular basis, usually begging, busking or selling The Big Issue in the same few places (roughly 1 at each location) around the city centre. Now there's homeless people everywhere.
Now for some film and TV history...
The Cheapside Arches and Cheapside itself, mainly in and around the Midland Hotel between 1:22 to 1:40 have appeared in stuff like Billy Liar (1963), Minder (1979-1994), L.A. Without a Map (1998), Lies We Tell (2017), Gold (2018), Commando 3 (2019), Lunar C: Puffer Jacket (2020), The Duke (2020), Peaky Blinders (2013-2022) etc.
The Wool Exchange at 1:42 has appeared in Billy Liar (1963), Life at the Top (1965), Ali & Ava (2021), plus a few more scripted productions which have slipped my mind, which I'll remember eventually, when I rewatch them again.
The soon to be demolished Kirkgate Shopping Centre at 2:00 has no doubt appeared in many things, however I only know of one (other than various music videos/freestyles on the roof) which is, a brief appearance in Spooks: Code 9 (2008), which filmed all over the city centre.
Bradford City Hall, Centenary Square directly in front of City Hall, and City Park at the side of City Hall, at 2:14 have been used in at least 50 film and productions, not to mention many many more where they've appeared in background shots. At least 10 Oscar winners have walked the corridors of Bradford City Hall.
Bradford Magistrates' Court at 2:25 has been used for things like Spooks: Code 9 (2008), National Treasure (2016) although the interior was filmed in Bradford City Hall, and Bad Boy Chiller Crew: Free - Nathan Dawe Remix feat Tyrone Gordon and Chris Nichols (2021).
Also at 2:25 where the One City Park building now is, is where the now demolished Bradford Central Police Station stood. It was used in stuff like Edge of Darkness (1985), Spooks: Code 9 (2008) again, The Damned United (2009), The Red Riding Trilogy (2009), many more scripted productions I've forgotten, plus various documentaries about crime.
And again at 2:25 in the distance, the National Science and Media Museum, The Alhambra Theatre, and Bradford Live have been used in countless productions, impossible to know how many, most of which are documentaries obviously, however there's also been quite a few scripted productions and even a music video.
City Vaults between 2:34 and 4:38 has probably been used in loads of stuff, however can only think of Make Bradford British (2012).
The Bradford Club with the Union Jack outside at 2:40 has been used in The Great Train Robbery (2013), The ABC Murders (2018), and Peaky Blinders (2013-2022) apparently, although I still haven't worked out what Peaky Blinders used it for. It's also been used in a few other productions I've forgotten, mainly productions from pre-2013.
Ivegate from 4:56 to 5:17 has been used in Spooks: Code 9 (2008) again, other TV dramas I've forgotten, although I think The Syndicate (TV Series 2012-2021) might be one of them, and multiple random documentaries, just like most of the other places I've mentioned.
The Boy & Barrel at 5:42 has been used in Room at the Top (1958), Make Bradford British (2012), and some old TV dramas I've forgotten.
Everything £1 next door at 5:42 is where the giant retail chain Poundworld was started by Christopher Edwards Sr. It featured in the final episode of Pound Shop Wars (2012).
The Bradford Hotel in the distance on the right at 7:18 has been used in Damon and Debbie (1987), Band of Gold (1995-1998), The Red Riding Trilogy (2009), and other similar TV dramas.
The Great Victoria Hotel in the distance on the left at 7:18 has been used in The Syndicate (TV Series 2012-2021), other TV dramas I've forgotten although The Moorside (2017) was filmed around the back at the Bradford Crown Court, and random stuff like Hometown (2019-2022). St George's Hall next door has appeared in various random things, all of which I've forgotten other than People's Palaces: The Golden Age of Civic Architecture (2010) which mainly focused on the architecture in the massively overrated cities of Liverpool and Manchester.
Tyrell Street at 7:32 was used in No Angels (2004-2006) and/or The Syndicate (TV Series 2012-2021). The FA Cup which was used from 1911 to 2014 (when an identical replica replaced it) was made by Fattorini & Sons of Bradford, who were based off camera directly to your left until 2012.
You should try pontefract for a small market town it has a lot of pubs and bars better in the evenings
Yeh afee people have said that. Gonna have to get down there
The Crown back in the 70s used ti be called the "The Old Crown" back then it was the dodgiest roughest pub in Bradford city centre. It had lunch time strippers performing. The landlord a massive overweight guy by the name Alan Judd used to run it. Then it was a Websters brewery tied house
